I have a habit of looking at player stats, games played, win rate after most games. Most of the games I play are in tier 5 and 6. I play in the low tiers because my win rate is low and I am not a good player and I don’t want to be a handicap for my team. What I have noticed is that there are many veteran players with 20,000, 30,000, 40,000 games or more , with high win rates playing in tier 3, 4 and 5.

I was wondering why? Are the low tiers more fun? I know you don’t make as much credits in the low tiers.   Is it for variety? Perhaps it’s easier? If you are one of these players, can you let us know why you are playing in the lower tiers.?

Could be they are playing anniversary tanks. Or they are bored with all the nubs playing in the higher tiers. I am by no means a great player, but I had a 400 battle player in a tier 8 match this week. He was totally clueless.

WG changed the matchmaker to put players with less that 5k games into their own queue. If you have above that number, you'll only see "veteran" players at low tier.

I play 1-4 only to ace tanks. And thanks to 5.5 I've got a few blue tanks to ace. Other than that I play 6+. anything below 6 I find too plain for my liking (except I used to play Medium Mk I and Mk II sometimes, for some reason I really enjoined those. but 5.5 killed them)

Some tankers have a goal to Ace Mastery Badge all tanks they have played.I think Crusader6 is one of the tankers I've seen....Of the tanks I've played, was fortunate enough to Ace the WWI tank in just the short time we had it.Never got to play the T-49 A ,that was another short time event for Ace Mastery. .

But only when the server population is above X number of players and that's rare. I hop onto my son's account that's less than 5K battles and get 5K+ all the time. Same for my account, I see low battle players all day.

I had to chuckle when I saw in somebody's stats that he played nearly 30,000 battles in a tier 2.

Some for the Same reason why people with 2000 or less battles play tier 8/10, because they can.

Others just do so to paddle their stats, others to seal club the new players and others just to have fun.

Tier X: Leo 1, E50 ME100, Jageroo, MAUS, E4E5, Patton, T57, Obj. 140, T-62, IS-7, IS-4.STB-1, FV 4202.

Next: Obj. 268.

Until update 5.5, I played mostly tier 8 premiums to grind credits. I would play almost any tank on its anniversary, regardless of tier. As a result of 5.5, players were encouraged to move to  upper tiers before they were ready. This made those tiers much less enjoyable -- for me anyway. So, I dusted off a few tier 3 tanks (the Otsu, the 76I, and the Artie) and play them more regularly. At least I generally expect poor play at tier 3 and take that into account when playing. Again, it's just not as much fun at the higher tiers any more, so I go club a few seals to help vent my frustration and as an "up yours" to WG for the changes.

There used to be a website that calculated how many 5th Graders you could fight.

It used height, weight, age, physical condition, military service, mma/martial arts experience, etc.

Maybe they are trying to determine their wotb threshold.

Tier 8 is suffering. Tier 9 is mostly a bore. And tier 10 is a bore you can't carry.

Make your pick.

I remember I summed it up in a good way:

Low tiers for vet players is stress relief. It lets us unwind after a hard day of dealing with our daily dose of stupid at Tier 8+.

They’re playing there because low win rate players are all playing higher tiers. There are times it’s not even fun.

I think the main reason is the newbs in high tiers.

Tier 8 due to wallet newbs and tier X because pleople belive that top players only play that tier and they might become "PROs" playing with them.

Everyone can play the tier they want but it don´t looks good when they keep playing that lvl for too much time.

I see players with > 10k battles in all tiers. In *general* I roughly recall getting what I assume is a normal distribution of players after around 1k battles -- before then, seemed liked all newbies -- but I think MM just works with what it can, and you bring up a great point about server population.

I'm starting to only play level eight because that's the only one that half way works and is enjoyable, plus I don't really like old tanks and the late war/post war ones that I'm most attracted to,which a crying shame that nine is such a bleeding hemorrhoid and ten is an ebola wasteland as the tanks are the most interesting to me.

The up side is my win rate is climbing play eight only so that's sorta nice :P

You can pretty well ignore the rest of the crap in this thread, this post right here is the actual answer that's got a basis in reality.

Except for the reality that there are a metric sh!t ton of crap players in the higher tiers being another of the main reasons. It is harder to carry T8-10 no matter your skill if MM hands you a sh!t team.
