Ah the IS-7. The pinnacle of soviet heavy tank design and arguably the ultimate heavy tank. It has everything a tank needs, including good looks. I am a proud IS-7 owner, with 500+battles. As for many like me, it was my first tier 10. However it has lost its crown to tanks such as the FV215B, IS-4, and the Chinese tier 10 to name a few. The once thick skin of the IS-7 is but a memory. People use nothing but gold these days and the meta seems to be around tank destroyers, which is not helping at all. Its difficult to side scrape ever since the side armor nerf, and the mobility has been hindered. I believe that the IS-7 needs a comeback. It needs it's old armor back, along with its mobility. Maybe a hull and turret traverse buff? I feel like the IS-7 should take back its crown as the king of soviet tanks. It is still somewhat formidable, but it's way too easy to take down. Maybe it's just me, but I would like some love for a legendary tank.

Thing is, it just doesn't do anything good enough to make it better than other heavies.

It's got one of the worst guns at tier 10, turret is pretty weak imo, side armor is meh because its 100mm angled behind the tracks, large, weak lfp, and bad hull and turret traverse.

Its main strengths were supposed to be armor and speed, but it can't brawl because of its turret, and its traverse negates its speed.

"Blitz" can't exist within a world of TDs.

I guess it’s tier creep, but now the gun just doesn’t cut it.

I played a recent battle and bounced every shot except for one off an IS-4.

These were good well aimed weak spot shots.  I don’t ever remember having so many bounces.

I've been playing a fair bit of the IS-7 recently, and it's still an excellent tank.

For starters, gold spam is less meta than it was back then because gold ammo does less damage than standard ammo now, and the side of the IS-7 is still quite difficult to pen with HEAT shells if they do choose to use gold. Also, the IS-7 was never good at sidescraping because of the pike nose and front mounted turret. If you tried to sidescrape back then, people would shoot you in the unangled upper plate or the lower plate, and it's still the same story today. Also, the side armor nerf was just a measly 10mm of the strip of 15mm of spaced armor on the side. Nothing about that profile has fundamentally changed; if people shoot there with AP/APCR shells, they will still ricochet off the well angled primary side armor underneath, and if they shoot there with HEAT, the spacing will eat the shell regardless; the weakness is still the flat area under the tracks as it always has been.

Enough about the past though; the IS-7 is still fundamentally strong. It's still the 3rd fastest heavy behind the 50 B (which isn't really a heavy) and the 113; the turret is still very strong in randoms, and the upper plate will still eat shells when wiggled or hull down. As for the gun, while it has issues, they're overstated. It's not actually that inaccurate, with the same aim time and gun handling as the IS-4 (albeit with a little worse dispersion), and 460 alpha still lets you hit with a significant punch compared to 120mm armed heavies and 105mm armed mediums. As long as the lower plate is hidden, the armor still works basically as advertised, as the upper plate is at the weakest, 340mm effective vs. HEAT head on, and while the turret can be penned through the cheeks with HEAT, no one in randoms ever hits that shot.

When it comes to aggressive play, the IS-7 doesn't really have any competition other than the 113 which admittedly outshines the IS-7. IS-7 can take an aggressive position faster than any other heavy, and still have the armor to dominate it.

The only thing I'd change about IS-7 would be to buff the cheeks to PC levels so that people can't pen the cheeks with gold, but other than that, it's solid.

It is still a good tank. Just not a finesse tank. Its still the blunt hammer is always was. And weak turret? Its one of the best in tier! The gun still has a mind of its own but when its on, its crazy good. Still has steel, mobility, low profile with a high alpha but erratic gun. It's a classic soviet heavy. Working as intended comrade!

After 2,000 battles I’ve stripped mine down to the bear bones and threw it in the back of the garage like the junk that it has become!

I endorse this statement but would also argue that the IS-7 is better than the 113 in overall mobility because of the noticeably better traverse.

I am now the #1 ranked E75 on the NA server!

Yeah the traverse really kills the 113 for me.

Must have been bad rng for me in that game.   It was weird as I never had so many bounce like that before, but there’s always a first.

I think I bounced 4-5 shots and only one penned.   I was shotting ap at his sides and rear and all bounced except for one.
