As my third purchased Tier X tank (I’ve unlocked quite a few, but most haven’t really gotten excited about most), the 215b was interesting. The British heavy line is...not very popular. And it’s totally justified with garbage like the Churchill Mk. I and Mk. VII. I really enjoyed the line though, it has some hidden gems. The Caernarvon, which might be the best IS-spam counter among the Tier VIII heavies, and the Conqueror were both very fun to play once fully kitted out.

But how about the 215b? I mean, the thing got vaulted on PC and replaced with the Super Conqueror because it wasn’t effective. So how does it play? Wonderfully.

I didn’t think the 120mm from the Conqueror had much room to improve, but I was wrong. The RoF is godly, with a 7.4s reload fully kitted out (highest DPM of any Tier X heavy!), amazing accuracy, gun handling is mmmmmm good, and it barely feels like you ever need to wait to aim, even at distant targets. The pen is just as solid, rarely requiring premium ammo. Alpha is low, but again, it hits often.

- The biggest change though, and a massive upgrade from the Conqueror is the armor. Even when top tier in the Conqueror, you really don’t feel like a heavy. Your armor gets penned constantly, even when hulldown. Not the FV215b.

- The turret takes Tier X TD shells like a boss, and the side armor is actually thick enough to sidescrape. The upper glacis isn’t bad either, if you can cover the atrocious lower plate. The rear turret doesn’t feel like much of a downside, with a really quick traverse and decent gun depression, perfect for sidescraping as well.

- The hull traverse is also...surprising. Very quick. The actual top speed forwards is only 34, but you almost constantly maintain that speed due to the power:weight ratio, so you actually feel much faster than most heavies.

- The only downsides thus far are that you can’t poke due to the rear-mounted turret, the awful lower glacis, and an oddly and awfully slow 12km/h reverse speed. But honestly the traverse makes up for that.

So? My verdict thus far is that it’s worth the grind. The Brit heavy line is a great line in the end, once you sift through the garbage grinds early on. My advice is to play the medium line at the same time, as they share modules. I might even do a tech tree showcase series of sorts with this, but that remains to be seen.

Cheers,

There is a glaring spot below the turret that makes side scraping against knowledgeable player pointless but with the current crop of rush to X players it's probably a lot easier to do.

Slightly hull down to increase that top plate armour and the tank is godly.

I have noticed those spots, like on the 72.01K. However, unlike the weak points on the 72.01, the ones on the 215b are pretty small. It’ll probably take a very accurate gun to hit it outside close quarters, and this tank seems to do best at medium range.

It’s a lot weaker than you think.   I like it, and it can be a monster, but against a player who knows it you’re in trouble.

It absolutely CANNOT sidescrape.

You need to use the turret and gun depression over the rear.

Lower plate hits or front sides sides will remind you of a German with its propensity to combust at a near miss.

Tank isn't that good tbh, chieftain does it better.  215b needs a DPM/armor buff to really be decent.  7.3 reload is too slow considering the 113 exists.  Should probably be around 6.7.

Fv is only effective on maps that don't require gun depression.

False.   It can generate a slew of GD over the rear - it’s just awkward getting into that spot.

Against most Pubbie teams it can leasuirely back into a spot and wreck folks.

just throwing this out there, but you might not be the best judge of the 215b's capabilities; using even a little gun depression makes the armor much more effective.

the tank can absolutely smash pubbies... but it could definitely use a ROF buff, or a buff to module durability.

If you have to fire off the rear(which I have tried) it becomes pretty awkward, and you have high explosive going right through your thin rear armor.) Its like all rear mounted turrets, it doesn't handle the slopes as well as center or front mounted turrets.

I do it and hide the hull -- the whole reason I am using the depression...

I was just checking the gun depression in armor inspector and it looks like there's 7 degrees of gun depression all the way around...

Can somebody verify this in a training room or something?

I could have sworn it was something like 5 off of the front before but I guess things have changed.
