Just thought I'd start this thread because there are several tanks that I love that just have absolutely terrible stock grinds. This thread is for new players (or old) who are playing a tank that sucks when stock and are wondering if it gets better. If anyone has an example, reply with the name of the tank. I'll start with the two that pop into mind:

BDR G1 B

When stock, it's slow with low alpha, DPM, poor mobility, and literally nothing going for it. When elite, you have the highest non-derp alpha at tier 5 (tied with S35 CA) with decent pen, and gain a large amount of mobility. The 10k XP grind to the top gun may not sound like much, but it is in this crappy stock tank, and even so, it's still worth it.

KV-1S

Suffers from the same problems as the BDR, low pen and alpha at first. But when you get the top engine and 122 gun, this tank flies across the battlefield at 40 KPH and takes out half of same-tiered tanks' HP with every click.

Excuse me while I club your double T-49 platoon with my SP I C.

I don't always club, but when I do, it's in stock Tier 9 Mediums.

The Kv-1S has an easy grind. If you can't figure out how to use an 85mm then that is your problem.

It's more the fact that it's an 85 with 120 mm of pen. Plus you need the turret to mount it, which is a small grind of itself. Pointing those things out isn't the purpose of this thread however.

Most tanks below tier 7 aren’t really difficult to grind.

Especially nowadays with boosters and premium certificates.

and few tanks above tier8 aren’t good tanks.

There.

Can't believe no one has mentioned the ST-I.

If you didn't grind out the BL-9 while still on the KV-4 (or picked it up from the IS-3) then you start off with 175mm of pen and can face tier X tanks where that may fail against lower front plates and sides of some of your targets.  Your turret is weak and you have worse gun handling than the KV-2.

Once fully kitted out your become a tank that every tier X needs to keep track of and fear.

The T95.. I'll keep saying it GET THE TRACKS FIRST. Unplayable without the upgraded tracks. But when you fix that mobility problem, when fully upgraded this thing is a flank stopping bunker.

T20, a hull down beast with the better turret and that gun is SU-WEET! (and FYI it's the same top gun for the M6, so research the T20 before you get the M6 it's a much easier grind than than the M6

No.KV4 in tier X is as useless as a KV3 in tier IX...its only perk is its armor which is paper to most tier Xs

Started out with a 76mm. That was a steep hill to climb.

E50, ARL 44, and the old school Churchill GC were some of the worst I remember...Churchill GC was only worth it in the long, long run for the deathstar.
