Why do we say Left or Right or use the <<< and >>>

When it would make more sense to use map Directions? N E W S NW SW NE SE..

And for that matter why do we have a 6x6 minimap when you can only ping a 2x2 grid.. We should be able to ping a 1x1 square to give specific locations..

Oh the things that weigh on my old brain.

Why wouldn't you use left and right? Much more easier to understand because, for one thing, the team is moving in the same direction--so there's only 2 options (on most maps), left and right
Some people say the Type 62 is overpowered. Having >500 battles and a 67% winrate, I may agree. However, none of y'all realize just how uncomfortable it is to sit down on these flimsy plastic seats with "Made in China" emblazoned on them. I mean, my cupholder just broke in half. How the f#%$ am I supposed to fire 250mm pen HEAT shells at the fronts of Tier 8 heavies if I have to be holding my Red Bull in one hand at the same time? It's ridiculous.

1 - Kids don't understand cardinal points anymore.  They've never used a real map, only GPS on their phones.  Remember key maps?  So we use left or right or arrows because internet people are stupid, gotta keep it simple.

2 - Small phones, fat fingers.  It's one thing to ping the 1x1 square on a big fancy ipad, but some kids are playing on those itty bitty iphone 3s's or whatever they are.

On the map front, as devices are constantly improving, when will it be time to start making maps a tad bit bigger?

It is just the simplest most international thing ...

No confusion between what spawn you're on, which way is up or down on the map, no language barrier, ...

Then explain why consistently when << or >> is called, non english speakers go the opposite direction

is it because they think < means right is greater than left?

It's not only non-english speakers who don't listen. Many don't pay attention. Many don't care. Many disagree.

I suspect (but have no data to verify it) that non-english speakers are more likely to have chat turned off.

You may be right, but I'm sticking with my theory it has to do with either

A: Confusion about the less than ( > ) greater than ( < ) symbols or

B: Done out of spite

You asked why people used “left” “right” or “<<<“ and “>>>”. Someone gave you an answer, which you not only choose to ignore but you decided to conclude that people (esp non-English speaking) confuse “<“ with the mathematical symbol “less than” or out of spite go the other way. And then your original suggestion of using a compass reference would solve that all how?

i believe critical thinking skills are on most curricula these days. Presumably not so when you were in the education system?

Some may have chat turned off, some may not pay attention to the top of the screen at the start, some may just always play the way their tank is pointed, some may always go one way and that is the only way they go, some may have just had an easy win going that way and so that's where they'll go again, ...

Who knows what goes on in the minds of the other players ...

It is an online team game made up of random individuals, many of whom don't care if somebody makes a call or not and are just going to do their thing.

Well, back then we had to forage and fend for ourselves. It wasn's so much as an education "system", more like a barn. and a Bible

It’s been said before many times. If you don't expect anything from your teammates you won’t be disappointed.

I never said young people are dumb, I said they don't have much experience using cardinal directions due to modern technology.

But yeah, young people are dumb.  Don't fret, I was also dumb when I was young, just like everybody else.  You kids don't even know what you don't know yet.

I agree that some people get confused by >>>> and <<<<, and that has nothing to do with language. I have in fact been asked what it means, by an English speaker. After that, I started going with a mostly 3-pronged assault. Now I say the word, use the <<<< and then make an actual arrow <------------ before. I start and finish by pinging the map. The lengths I go to in order to get the the idiots to employ some semblance of strategy is staggering.
