Welcome back in hot July to another best series review, this time covering tier 9 mediums.  I think most tier 9 mediums are above average, but overall I think the class in itself pales in comparison to the heavies and destroyers that roll around at the tier.  Without further ado, let us begin!

I will provide my own thoughts on the "best" tier 9 mediums and I apologize in advance if your favorite tier 9 medium is at the bottom of the list. This is purely my opinion, and you are free to give your input.  Hope you enjoy! (See spoiler)

See how things have changed! Found below is the original list for this specific topic, written over a year ago!

*Note: Reviews are done in the style of WoTLabs.

What do you think is the best tier 9 medium?  Let me know!

For perhaps the first time ever, I do not disagree with you one bit on any of this.  Not that you or anyone else were giving a hoot about my agreement factor, but still....

Rammer or CS on the M46? I've struggled with this question.

Shhh, you aren't supposed to tell people about the M46.

And it's good it doesn't get any attention form WG in the form of special camos and the like. Because then the potatoes would think it looks cool and research the tank. And then the tank wouldn't be special.

Keep these things secret, so that they stay special.

Oh, wait, I see what you did there. You listed the Cent 7/1 in the potato section because you wanted people to think that it's bad. Riiight.

I’d bump the T-54 up one division. It’s armor is better than its tier X counterparts. I’ve found the higher pen gun to be more effective for me personally as the small dpm advantage is mitigated by the fact that I can’t consistently fire on the reload and thus the extra dpm is lost in practical use. Great list otherwise

I used to have a picture here but tiny pic took an arrow to the knee....

Far and away the most balanced tier and type. Some of the most enjoyable tanking I’ve had is driving tier IX meds. Just about everyone of them brings a unique teaching attribute.
I couldn’t rank any of these and if someone did; reverse the rankings, I could buy it (tech tree only).

My stats in the amx proto have always far outclassed any of my tier 10s in terms of both average damage and winrate.

I'm not sure if that's a testimant to how good the tank is or just how truly bad I am at tier 10.

It's got the perfect armor for a tank with 10 degrees of gun depression while maintaining mobility that allows it to take ridglines faster than any other tank in its tier.

It maintains so much flexibility while being almost impenetrable when using its gun depression.

It's essentially a leo pta that trades a little bit of firepower and mobility for 60% more gun depression and an armor profile that makes it the best ridgline fighter at its tier.

11/10 It was essentially the only tank I played in ratings because it was just so reliable.

Not sure I agree with the separation between the 61 and the 46. I know the 61 is considered the ugly duckling but that gun blows the.46s gun away. Yes, lacking HE and HESH proof armor is a major drawback but the gun, that glorious gun.

It would be hard for me to choose between the amx and the m46 both great.  But I do have thousands of games in the amx.

I would play the t54 more, but just hate looking for places for it to do well...  Lazy.

I really like the t54. I wasn't to hot on the t55 though. That front plate is so needed with low gun depression. The amx proto is my go to tier nine hull down tank. For me the game ends at nine.

E50 is my best performing tank with the T54E1 a touch behind, but all my mediums are within 5% of one another. I ground the Type before and during the first buff so it reflects in my performance.

The T54 i've always done better in, with the D54 gun. never a popular choice with the Uni's but i have a better hit rate with that gun and with the slightly better pen and faster shell velocity I can still hit and pen from mid range without having to brawl ( which I suck at) I believe Concep was a D54 champion too in the old days. I guess RoF is ok if you can guarantee penetration every time but you really have to know what's up to get the other gun to be reliable.

don't own the 55 or the AMX, I choose which premiums i want and, as a Brit I have no interest in an French tank unless it's with play money and the 55A is just a 54 variant for real money.

Big Gunz and Ammo Rackz.

T54e1 can perform, but not always consistently nor if one does not have the skill level for it. I personally consider it in the play for fun group since if you know your reload and how to play a full support position, racking up damage isn't the hard part. The hard part is keeping the yoloing fools alive long enough to continue acting as meatshields for you.

I may have a few too many tanks. I think I was over 150 in garage by last count.

It goes against everyone's instincts, but the Type 61 is relevant again. Yeah, I said it. Let's face it, it's basically the same thing as the M46 Patton, but with less side and rear armor and a better gun. Seeing as anyone should be able to frontally pen both tanks with AP, the only armor difference is that some 12,8 cm guns and above may be shooting HE at the 61's sides, which technically is bad but also good (could splash or pen, it's a hard shot unless close up.) The Type 61 gets WAY better penetration (27mm extra on the standard shell and 35mm extra on the premium), and has slightly better dispersion and aim time in exchange for an extra 0.01 bloom. For some reason, the 61 also gets really bad gun elevation, but that's not much of an issue.

The one thing is add to your review is this.

The lack of HE for the T54e1 is absurd.
