Went to san diego for my bday, and got to get onboard USS Midway, its a huge aircraft carrier, the flight deck feels bigger than it looks, the crew compartments were a little cramp but it felt like ur in a mini city, you dont even feel like youre in a ship.

Pictures are on my instagram @lance_is_cappuccino haha

Sounds like you had a good birthday. And you got to do something cool that you'll always remember.

Although i got lectured by my dad "why dont you join the navy, you'll get a easy life when ur 40, even my friend at work whose in the navy said he'll make his son join after highschool, you are wasting your oppurtunity" lol

The Midway is a fantastic museum.  I just listened to a podcast where the guy in charge of it was interviewed.  It's called the Fighter Pilot podcast.

And happy birthday!

Definitely on the Big Ship List.  Lived in VA for 15 years and only this summer got to tour the USS Wisconsin... the sheer scale of stuff in naval combat is just kooky

Guided tour of the Midway was incredible, I was at the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi Tx and was lucky enough to visit the Lexington (The Blue Ghost) at night. An amazing sight with it all lit up.

Belated Happy Birthday!

Did you eat at the restaurant right next to it? Did you see the statue of the sailor and his girl?

I dunno if it's still open but a few miles down the Texas coast by Galveston is the USS Texas which is a PRE WWII ship,it was in bad shape when I saw it which is unsurprising since it's been in salt water for about a hundred years now.

Did you take the river boat harbor tour Faber? If you didn't do it next time, they take you on a Vietnam era riverboat through the San Diego Harbor and near the Naval base,it's quite enjoyable.

The huge statue of the iconic photo of the sailor kissing a woman, time square during V-J Day. Very nice!

We did a dinner harbor cruise (my wife’s idea) but being in San Diego Harbor at sunset is a fantastic site. See so many navy ships and watching evening colors, on dozens of ships simultaneously was something you never forget.

If you can go check out the battleship Texas, it's amazing.  But check before you go, I know it's scheduled for some work so it may be closed soon.

I took the cub scouts to overnight on it last spring.  It's been through an intense round of refurbishment and soon it's going to get at least partially lifted out of the water for even more extensive repair work.

I've been on a bunch of naval ships from destroyers to carriers and a couple subs the Turner Joy,Kidd,Texas,Iowa,Wisconsin,Little Rock,Lexington,Midway,Croaker,Silversides,Dolphin and the Requin.

Navy ships are to me about the best attraction when I travel I mean I've never been to Disney and I was in the LA area went to the Iowa instead.

Of interest to few, my aunt's neighbor's father was a blacksmith aboard the Texas... through a roundabout circumstance we inherited a lot of his memorabilia, had been considering donating it to a museum.  Sounds like a top candidate

There was a machine shop but no blacksmith that I recall, you may be thinking of the one before with the same name the 1898 Texas but I'm sure they'd love to have what you've got since they have the older ship's bell on board.
