I feel like I choked in this game.  Clearly made a mistake in not monitoring my APCR and was very surprised not to have a 4th shot when brawling with the IS-3 at the end.   Also didn't realize I was still on APCR so the Tiger 1 took 3 shots to kill instead of 2.

I think I should have gone up on the hill with the Tiger to finish him off, and that would have put me in a better position to deal with the IS-3.  Either way, I should have worked harder at baiting a shot at the end instead of getting greedy and going for the last shot.

What do you guys think I should have done differently?

Well, just me but when it got to 1v1 I would have gotten more distance from him rather than fighting such a close battle.

You had better speed, better camo, better view range, and better gun depression. You eliminated all of your strengths with an up close and personal battle with a heavy.

This is true..

In my head, I imagined that I could take 2 shots from him and clip him out with my 4.  But I had APCR Loaded, so only 3 shots were available..

Ultimately just got greedy and forgot how to leverage my strengths.

Oh I get it, been there done that. You get caught up in the moment and things get a little rushed.

Even the very best players make mistakes. The good players learn from them while the bad players don’t. Same goes for the real world as well.

Mistakes are great as long as you learn from them.

I don’t think you did anything wrong per se.

You eliminated enemies 1 at a time, and it came down to 1v1 with a partial clip.

I’m not sure you could have moved away.

One miss or bounce and it is 50:50 going around the building, and his prior shot pretty much sealed the deal.

The only thing I would have tried to do mid game is use targeting, in the big melee, to help the team eliminate red tanks, put a mark on the ones you are about to help clip down ... which in turn may help keep a team mate alive. Who knows.

You had a good game. Very few things i personally would change, but in this game they would've proven pivotal.

#1- @ 2:50 mark you decided to go for the two shot comet (You had committed by the time he became a one shot). In normal circumstances this is an okay move, but there were three factoids to consider. The CDC was proving to be helpful and following your lead: teammates like that are indispensable in pub matches. The Tiger was hunting him down and you could've easily pincered him/shared your HP/tracked him in order to save such a valuable asset when out-gunned. And finally, it looks like the Comet was hiding/resetting camo, thus not endangering allies in that moment. I think you add all of that, and you pull out the win.

#2- You took a shot to the backside trying to run from the IS-3, which afforded you 10+ seconds to reset camo and play the view range/mobility game, but you then turn around and give him a chance to fire at point blank range. Takes practice to remember that in the heat of the battle, and you still almost clipped him out. "Choking" is key to being clutch down the road, just remember the lessons in the future.

Auto-loaders are tricky for me, but one thing I've learned from savants like Positive is that they're more effective closer to the target. Less chance of a target hiding behind a building, forcing you to throw away the main strength of an auto-loader. Just got to always have cover and teammates around during a reload.

I don’t watch videos, I like original replay files better.

first of all it takes less time to watch, about 20-40s per game,

Secondly I can pause, rewind, analyze each shot or spotting distance, and tons more (using wotinspector.com)

More info, less time , better analysis.

If you post your replay I will post my opinion.

In loove with the lorraine, BTW, Lorraine is my favorite tank after AMX-13-57,

and probably what you could have done better was ramming.

no, I meant RAMMING. How many people did you ram during that game ? You can shove 150-1000 hp by ramming people, and that comes on top of your clip. Sometimes I ram every single red tank I meet.

Lorraine is a brute :

Some exemple of a good ram (@1:40)

Some exemple of infinite ramming :

Ram delete some AMX immediately from game start, then moping up the game :

To be honest, it was my second game in the Lorraine.  So far I only have about 10 games in the tank, and haven't rammed anything.  Thanks for the tip. It's a fun tank to drive, though the 20 second reload on the magazine takes a little getting used to.  You can re-position so fast, and then end up still not having a round in the pipe to take a shot.

Oh heck yeah ! Love Borsig hunting in my Lori. Use speed boost to maximize ramming speed then unload 4 HE shells into it and buh bye Borisg !

Indeeed :)
sometimes u don’t even need a shell.., smash it against a wall or push him downhill on his side (since they love heights anyways)  until the friction is done evaporating its entire HP... keep the clip for the next guy :)

thanks for the link and I reviewed the game.

Once not seen from a tunnel , player focus viewpoint but as a 14 players thing, things start to appear.

I frequently look at my own games like this and I will make my commentary :

im a flanker. As a flanker I frequently meet some of the issue you met :

you and CDC both go lake you meet an isolated scorpion 2v1 and waste no time dispatching him and coming into the enemy’s back. It is good that you didn’t waste time, but imo that was still too late. Your team was 5v6 and lost 2 guys before you met with the bulk of the enemy, and even though you worked hard, ultimately you will never recover from that. IS 6 died as you were engaging.

It would have been worst if you had met resistance in the lake, or if you had waited longer. I have lost countless  games like this and now, if there is a short flank, I will take it any time. It is dangerous, but it is the way to learn and progress IMO. In malinovka, it’s a reason not to go lake. Think if you and cdc had pushed middle on the enemy team, it would have been 7v6, with Scorpio probably driving alone for another minute.

Then a lot of things have been said already : you and cdc worked well together, then you split, whoever’s fault was it, it led to just early death, which I don’t think he could avoid at this point.

the other big thing to me is end of game type of carry. If you are like me and hot headed with no patience, you die too often to know how to manage an end of game situation. It is a skill in itself, hard to develop but necessary. Here, surprised by the clip, you drove back to reload, and is 3 moved towards you. The issue is that they knew your position, and you forgot that tiger was there too. They pincered you and that was the end.

How about using your speed to escape, take back your breath, wipe the sweaty fingers, reload, and ambush them as they split in your search ? One by one they are easier to deal with, especially with you 900+ HP clip potential. Noticed how you rocked for as long as you kept full speed ? They didn’t know where you were, where you went, or what had hit them. Then you entered town, stopped, moved back and forth, and died. you have speed. Use it. If you stall, especially if you stall and let them to come kill you from both sidesm then you did something that is an obvious mistake. Drive away to a bush, wait, then clip them as they pass by looking for you. Relocate, always be in the position they least expect you to, especially since you can reach those position so fast.

i hoped that helps. It’s not often that people share their defeats, but I have always been of the opinion that defeats teach more than victories, and they just teach or remind everyone of the small details that count.

Oh, yeah, and ram. You clearly didn’t ram enough !

Let me look for other examples of ramming :)

Would I hesitate to ram a vk100 German superheavy ? Not the least.

Or ramming the tier9 heavy AMX-50-120 while I have 400 hp left ? Neither.

both in that game :

https://replays.wotinspector.com/en/view/b4c12db10626414ef105cc08baa08302

Ultimate power of ramming :

Can you crash into a dead ISU and die from that crash ?

yes, if you go full speed on the freeway and a slow is6 cuts into your lane, sending you into a parked and abandoned ISU.

https://replays.wotinspector.com/en/view/472b0645148328d93ed8a8286cf78a21

And one one of my first and still favorite games :

ramming 5 guys including my own teammate:

  • LTTB,
  • amx-13-75,
  • T-43,
  • AMX-13-90
  • and a red vk100 for the kill with 219dmg (doing 850dmg to myself)
