I think a couple of people read my thread about how hilarious it was when my wife found my dog stuck to another dog one morning.  I've got a sad update.....

We had already scheduled my poor dog to be neutered when he found a lover.  He's about a year old and I know we put it off for a while, but at least this way he got to experience being a man before his nuts got taken away.  Anyway, my daughter works at Petsmart, so we took him there for the procedure.  When it's done, the vet pulls me in there and tells me he's got complications that are common due to his age and size.  He's 1, he's probably 35-40 lbs.  I told the vet that this complication is common when you screw it up.  I don't think he liked being called out like that, we had a little argument about it.  Anyway, his empty testes sack filled with blood, swelled up to the size of a softball, his stitches leaked for 3 days.  I've had to keep a cone on his head so he can't get to his crotch, keep him in a kennel all day which seems to do no good.  It finally started going down in the past couple of days but it's red, the itchiness is driving my poor dog crazy, he's figured out how to get his cone off, my daughter is taking him back to the vet today to try to get him some relief.  I still don't know what the bill's going to look like, they are trying to bill me for everything but I'm arguing pretty hard that they botched what is probably the most common procedure they perform.

That's pretty sad. Since they screwed up the procedure and made the dog suffer; they should at least refund half the bill imo.

Yeah, I realize that things go wrong sometimes, and I'm willing to split the difference, but I'm not paying a thousand dollars either.

Have you done any research on this topic to find out if this is indeed a "common" occurrence or just common for this doc?  I would talk to another vet and ask how often this kind of thing happens.  Years ago my dog got into it with a porcupine and needless to say he didn't come out on the better end of that encounter and he needed surgery to get hundreds of quills out.  So he had to wear the "cone of shame" for weeks.  That was not a fun time for either of us.  So good luck with your pooch.

Firstly, I am very sad to hear about it when anyone has hat kind of pain in that kind of area, especially a dog. Poor guy had no idea it was coming, and you did what you thought was in his best interest. My heart goes out to you both.

Secondly, DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT, DOCUMENT!  Period... Pics, sneaky audio, really sneaky video... Petsmart is a corporation with lawyers firstly and primarily, they just happen to sell animal food.

Hope he gets better soon. That makes me really concerned about my dog tbh.

We got a 5 y o rescue dog (viszla) that was a purebreed breeding/show/hunting dog. Really excellent dog, but her owners' house burned down in the fires in Northern California. Her previous owners decided that since they already had to take care of some of her puppies, that they would give away her and some of her pups. So we got the dog. Anyways, she's finished her breeding, just finished her heat cycle, so in about a month we'll go and get her spayed. We'll definitely stay clear of Petsmart, that's for sure.

Petsmart, in Texas and Louisiana for sure, maybe nationally I don't know, but Petsmart's usually have Banfield Vet clinic in the store.  I've brought many dogs there and never had any major issues before.  I don't think that it's a problem with all of Petsmart, just this one vet who screwed up and was hoping to get out of it, but I've had dogs my whole life.  A neutering is about as standard of a procedure that you can get....if he developed an infection that's a common complication.  If the knife slips and you cut something you're not supposed, it's not a complication it's a f up.

Okay he's back from the vet.  His scrotum is now infected.  We've got a medication cocktail for him.  The other option is to remove his scrotum completely, which is okay but that's real surgery and if it gets infected than his whole body is infected and suddenly he's in mortal danger.  So two weeks on all these drugs and hopefully he'll be back to sniffing butts and begging for treats again.

4 legs, tail, not a cat, it has to be a dog.

If it doesn't have a tail it's not a monkey

Even if it's got a monkey looking shape

If it doesn't have a tail it's not a monkey...

If it doesn't have a tail it's not a monkey, it's an ape.

I don't think that hard about it.  I try to watch netflix because of all the streaming services it seems to work the best with a weak internet connection.

The part-time mailmen who work country routes like mine are less reliable than satellite internet.
