When that first tank dies, the dynamic of the game changes immediately. Red gets encouraged, as they know they now have more guns in play...they are winning.  Most low 40% or high 30% players typically get in 1 or 2 shots before they die, usually very early in the match, whereas afk players can remain a mystery until near the end of the game (ie don’t die until cleanup).

So...is an afk player actually “better” to have on your team than a low 40% player (or worse), on average?

I would rather have an active spotter out yoloing, than an AFK sitting in the back. But neither is helpful to winning.

I recently had one of those battles in my IS-6 at Malinovka, where I spent most of early battle chasing the team. By the time I got to the frozen lake we were down 4 tanks and I hadn’t fired a shot.  Fortunately the yoloers had inflicted enough dmg, that a TD and myself were able to clean up the rest of the reds. I’m glad we had no AFKs, because they don’t do dmg.

Early game rage quitting I put in another category, as they usually do so after moving up and getting spotted by red (leading to early destruction). I refer only to afk players that never spawn in.

A bad player will soak up shells that might have hit something useful, they might get some spots, they might distract the reds while the greens do something useful, there are plenty of ways that crap players provide marginal benefits to the team.  Worst case their bloated carcass might provide some cover.  So a yoloing 40% is better than an afk.

The non-afk players that are about as useful as afk players are the 40%ers that try to sit in back and snipe and end up just waiting for a shot that never comes because they never reposition.

I think you guys are underestimating the red momentum boost that comes from that first loss.

Man it's horrible isn't it?  I mean, in some places people pay to spend time in a sauna, and in SE Texas we get it for free for the majority of the year.  But today, all cool and comfortable outside?  I bet Yankees would love it.......

Okay, that was total facetiousness, it's pretty awesome....

AFK players have a few good uses. First they detect flankers, second they slow the flanker down as they farm the AFKs hit points.

I have also used an AFK tank as bait during the end game as often the reds will shoot the AFK tank instead of me.

Works both ways.  When I see a green yolo ahead and die it invigorates me step up and give it back to the reds.

Would much rather have an AFK at spawn, especially if im in a fast shooting TD or a med,  reason being I will use AFK to spot for me.

Imagine team all goes left ,  go left also but only far enough  that  at the last "corner" and or cover on the map following team find   position of "over watch"  to AFK .  Have patience and wait for the flanking horde of meds and or lights, wait  for them to be in open surrounding the AFK before shooting and exposing your position,  see rockfield , , hit the help button so  other team mates can farm your spot . happy hunting .. sri for earlier post, public school educated

Well... occasionally an AFKer joins the game after everyone else has died

This is true. Way back when I first started blitz I had an unreliable tablet that would occasionally choose to re-boot right as the map loaded.  It took about 1:30 to reboot and get back in the game.  There were many times, I'd wake up to a lone light tank trying to farm me.  They often seemed surprised.

Awesome, another neighbor!  Jahawa lives in Cypress, I live in Waller.  I moved here from Friendswood, I used to work at Bayou City Lumber there on Telephone Road.

Jahawa has never bragged about his attractiveness outright, but I could definitely tell he is based on his comments.

You can tell he's totally hot by the way he drives his tank.

Lemme attempt to un-necro this thread.

First of all, it's actually a good question. As usual, it depends on a lot of factors. If the entire enemy goes left and wipes out a yoloing lone green tank, I'd definitely say that its better to have an AFK teammate than that. Sure, even if the yoloer got a bunch of spots, its unlikely that the green team will be able to get any damage off those spots, and probably won't even adjust their positioning based off those specific locations. The red team still doesn't know where the green team is, but it should be pretty clear that they're on the other side of the map. It's a clear advantage that the red team has now, having an extra gun. Sure, it can still swing to the green team's advantage if they don't play it properly and one or some of their tanks get focus fired, but the red team still has that advantage, and more times than not, will get the win.

Now, if that yoloer gets wiped out and spots all the lights and mediums, and perhaps a flanking heavy or TD, it may allow the main squadron of green tanks to push aggressively in return and wipe out the smaller section of the split red team, which may be 2 or 3 tanks. That could be a favorable trade for the green team.

Lastly, if the yoloer plays the bait card really well, it's definitely going to be an advantage. Last night, I was in my Lowe at Dead Rail, and I purposely went by myself to the mid/valley side, knowing my survival chances were extremely low. As it's usually a split by both teams on that map, and since my entire team was going to the hills, I knew that if I survived long enough, I would be able to bait the enemy team into trying to pour multiple tanks into killing me. And it worked. I did die, but it took them nearly 3 minutes to kill me, and they wasted 4 tanks trying to do that, 3 of them finally rushing me. Within 45 seconds of my death, my team had cleaned up the remainder of the reds. This only worked because 6 tanks charging down a flank usually means they can be aggressive, especially when I was able to spot 4 tanks on my side of the map. They quickly dismantled the enemy flank and pushed hard. The red team needed to kill me quicker and with less tanks, they severely handicapped themselves by doing that. I took a strong defensive stance and only peeked in the beginning to get a few shots and spots off. Although I only finished with 1400 damage, I felt really proud of myself knowing that I was playing for the team.
