I was converted as soon as they dropped. I think they're free and fun.
I don't think the Developers are pressing themselves by making them; on the New Year's Dev stream it was said that they just have one guy make them.

Why would they go away?
Probably upwards of 75% of players used them right-away, and as soon as they came out when a few people protested, the official stance was they’d not go away but rather be developed further.

I stopped even trying to get rid of it. I have become one with my inner tranquility. A notification? No concern of mine.
...
*clicks all the avatars*
Yes, peace, finally.

I hold out hope they might go away. Sometimes Wargaming reverses truly horrendous decisions ... like spare parts.

I actually think that's why some other players use avatars. To hide that they are seal clubbing
I agree about hte notifications

acrisis, the original drop of avatars were, let say, less than sensible. Fluffy Snowman, Candy Cane, Snow flake, Christmas Lights, etc.
What age range were they targeting?
So many complaints were justified, but now you see more relative avatars which the mature players had requested.
so KUDO’s to WG for listening....!!!!

Obviously they target the younger crowd and perhaps those who want the shiniest medal of a kind.
For whatever reason they started Christmas-y ...
Reception would have been different if they had launched with regular ones let’s say three months before then, but I recall Ribble responding that achievement ones were coming soon after.

Totally agree. Ribble called me out stating “what difference does it make. sorry that it disturbed you that much”
He totally missed the point, but happy to see avatars that are more relevant to this game.
Still seeing the avatars with the ones sucking on the “pacifier”....now that’s hilarious....!!!! and let’s not discuss paying for attachments like driving around with a “pumpkin”....LOLOLOLOLOL
They have a business model and again KUDO’s to them at their client targeting and marketing goals and trying to diverse their audience.

A dark part of me is chuckling at the collective seizures our anti-avatar group will have when they boot up after the update. Oh, the humanity!
