CA is officially shut down as of today. I should be worried about my health, long-term savings, family security, etc. Instead i'm giddy because there's a non-zero chance of a zombie apocalypse, and i get to spam tank porn in the form of Mad Games to my heart's content. Who else is/has been on lockdown?

Can you also envision yourself in a cheetos-encrusted wife-beater and short shorts (okay, that last part might be just me)? What's your state, county, city situation like? Have [edited]also hoarded your local grocery store supply of toilet paper and beer?

Be safe out there, and remember to always shoot first and ask questions later.

Huck,

Also in California, but in a small mountain community outside of Silicon Valley. Since I’m retired and prefer the country to the city to begin with the lockdown should not be as large of a problem as it may be for some. I’m well supplied with things to do and so far the biggest difference is having to speak more loudly when I visit friends/neighbors (from a distance).

I'm in Vegas.  All the casinos are now officially closed, not sure about other businesses.  Being retired I'm fortunately above the fray but I've taken a big hit in my life's savings.  As long as people remain civil and there is food in the stores we should be ok.  Wiping my asss won't be a problem for another month or two.  Hang tight.  A lot of what is happening is way over blown - thank the 24 hour media for that.

The rats are the only thing strolling on Bourbon Street.

Weirdest thing to see the city empty.

I work in a hospital, so no lockdown and life is much more hectic.

not yet in my area, but I’m pessimistic that we will be on lockdown after 1 or 2 weeks

While the 24hr news cycle has its issues, and media in NA is different than other parts of the world, let's put it that way, ...

Any smart person can objectively look at what has happened so far in Asia, what is happening in Europe and what is coming down the pipe in NA.

Objectively:

> it is highly contagious

> it has a high incidence of hospitalization and death

> people are / can be carriers without symptoms
> the numbers are going up fast

> resources are very limited relative to the number of cases

> the only thing that stops the spread is isolation / distance

Learned yesterday that my big sister and her husband have the symptoms, after returning from an international trip, are isolated at home, have not been tested as there are not enough tests to go around and they're being prioritized. Cases confirmed at the hotel they stayed at. Who knows how many people got infected on the flights back home ... of course when one returns from a trip, you have contact with your family, go back to work, ...

The numbers out there, scary as they are, are already low due to lack of testing ... meanwhile I saw a rough 25% next day in cases reported, hospitalized and deceased.

Anyhow. Way overblown? I personally don't think so.

I'm outside of a small town in Texas.  We're in between College Station and Houston, so while we're definitely in the country, we're in between two metropolitan centers.  Our schools are closed through the third but we expect that to be extended.  Otherwise, it's business as usual.  We might be slightly insulated against the initial economic effects due to the fact that we manufacture metal building supplies.  Our customers are contractors who typically run crews of less than 10 people, their customers are homeowners who might be spending more time at home.  All of this is to say that we're working and don't plan to stop soon, but I'm concerned that people in this area aren't taking it seriously enough.  There is a country bar near me that is still open and doing a brisk business, restaurants are still open although the lines at the drive throughs are crazy long, so the dine in crowd is at least reduced.  I had a customer come in and try to shake my hand yesterday, I politely refused, citing social distancing, so the guy pats me on the back.  I personally think in the next couple of weeks the virus is going to hit us like a wildfire, but I'm keeping that opinion to myself as I don't think it's going to be too popular.  The good news is that I'm relatively young and healthy [42] as are my wife and kids, so we'll be okay when we get it, and my parents are truly in the country in the middle of nowhere in Louisiana and they are doing a good job of being safe.

I’m farther East and North than most of you. I’m not in lockdown, but our governor is saying we should stay in our houses mostly and avoid large meetings. I’m staying indoors, just to be safe. :)

More time to play! That is fine with me. :playing:

whatever you do dont drain your 401k or any stocks you have. Wait for the upturn again. Every 10-20 years we have a bull rush, then a crash into a bear market. Then back up again.
