It used to be great but has been power crept into mediocrity.

I had three 7 kills, and 9 pools medals in the IS-6.

 

For awhile there it just steamrolled every tank in its path.

Yeah. It was a monster to face against before but power creep be like. It's still a good tank but I'd rather buy something else, like the Jagdtiger 88 or the Lowe.

I actually enjoy playing it. It took me around 50 games to figure it out but I'm running it at 70% win rate now. You have to run the dpm gun as the other gun yields no benefits compared to the Russian 122s. Its a good medium stomper as the dpm is pretty good. The armor is inconsistent as hell but the 1850 health really comes in handy.

I like running it with the HEAT gun since I more often than not go the heavy route with it. DPM is nice and all, but bounce a single shot with it and you just lowered your effective DPM by 400/360 (depends on ammo type). Running HEAT+Calibrated Shells gives you the necessary penetration to punch through pretty much everything you can encounter except for tanks with armor not meant to be penetrated anyway. And besides, if you spam gold with the DPM gun you'll actually have worse DPM than the HEAT gun when you compare the DPM gun firing gold and the HEAT gun firing standard APCR (iirc, HEAT gun has the same pen on standard APCR rounds as the DMP gun's premium APCR).

But then again, it makes no sense to play the IS6 with HEAT if everything else is simply better. Why would I play a IS6 over an IS5. The dpm gun makes it different and somewhat special. Unless of course, you like to hinder yourself on purpose by playing trash tanks.

I do not think it is bad. It is still competitive in my opinion. Sides are still very troll. Turret is still good. Are there better heavys? yes. But is it worth $10? Very likely depending on what other tier 8 heavy premiums you have. What does your garage look like?

I bought it years ago as my first tier 8 premium. I don't like it much now, but that is more due to me liking mediums more. I put over 700 battles on it, the most of any of my tanks, to grind credits.

how do you pen heavies head on that know how to play with poor accuracy 175(217) pen? just avoid them and shoot bads? you gain 22% extra damage if allowed to fire every time reload is up(less if that is not the case, which is 95% of the time. also first shot takes zero seconds to fire, so even lower in real world situations), with half the shell velocity and much worse pen. there are multiple t8 mediums you wouldn't even be able to hurt from the front. mediums get around low pen like this with way better gun stats and flanking. also a gold round that isn't useless.

 

statistically and with math, the gun is [edited]. you're just better than people you're facing.

 

the is6 only advantage over other russian heavies outside of the 252, is the ability to sidescrape and not be a free pen in the hull or sides. the 252 is a joke though and is nearly invulnerable sidescraping, pretty much obsoleting the is6.

I purchased the bundle, and have been running it during this event, massive 44% WR, can’t pen no one it seems, and most tanks don’t have a problem penning you. I like the tank, but everyone’s a tomato, gonna stick with it till I get it down.

Edit: You can't get the T34 for 5500 gold anymore. IS-6 is still not worth $10 though.
