When we talk about tanks that are hard to play it is easy to gravitate towards tanks that are bad.  What are tanks that are good but have a high skill floor?

A tank with a high skill floor is one that's not easy to play intuitively, and may require multiple games, experimentation, and practice just to reach a level of competency.

Tanks that come to mind are the ChiRi, SU-100M1, and T49. These aren't bad tanks, but new or unskilled players may have an extra hard time getting these tanks to work well due to their unique playstyles.

Some of the tanks listed above are decent tanks that are serviceable. Specifically, the STA-1, Type 61, and Pershing are great WN8 boosters as many players struggle with them, but to me, any tank with 10 degrees of gun depression, decent mobility and a good gun can be made to work.

As for tanks with a high skill floor - that can largely be broken down to good gun, bad armor. The Lorraine is a perfect example of a tank that has a high skill ceiling but is challenging for most. Others that come to mind are the Leo 1, Grille, Caernarvon (good armor when used correctly but applying the DPM can be challenging), and the T25/2. Granted, there are better tanks that do the same things as each of these, but they can each be very good tanks when used correctly.

Also, I don’t see the T49 as having a high skill ceiling as the gun is far too finicky. It’s more of a fun memeish tank than anything.

How about AMX lights? I want to like them but every time I try to grind the 13/75 it feels like an exercise in futility. Especially in this meta. The gun depression handicap is like a bad dream.

And also the bad gun elevation. These make the gun less versatile, in addition to having typical autoloader accuracy. They excel at boom and zoom, but I think the T71 is the better tier 7 autoloading light now.

The T49 is hampered by its HE only ammo selection and poor accuracy. This is what gives it a high floor and a low ceiling, though Id say it's ceiling is still high enough to be viable.

Personally I cant find any fault with most tanks that i grind if we are talking about ones tha are fully loaded. All tanks have their good points so its hard to put blame on a tank that one may call bad when in reality, if you are doing bad in a tank it might aswell be ur fault for not using it correctly

Just wait until you hit the 13 90.

The 13 75 is amazing in comparison.

Someone said T49, and I can support this too. It’s not a bad tank, but it’s an RNG reliant; if RNG isn’t on your side, your gonna have a rough time. I personally don’t like it, along with other RNG reliant tanks
RNG is rigged !

To be fair. The su-100M1 is a bit of a beast, and the t49 is my favorite tank. Never bothered going up either the Japanese or Chinese lines but I can see where you are coming from with that ChiRi pick. Edit: the t71 was trash for me, good luck dealing with lttb's and dracs.

To the original poster, I don't know about WoT's but in WoTB the 2 hardest tanks to play are the UE57 in the tech tree, and the FCM36 Pak.40 in premiums.

If you think of the FCM36Pak40 as a snowblower with a cannon mounted on it you can wrap your arms around how to play it.

One tank that was nearly universally loathed and finally removed from service (replaced as a legacy tank if you had one in your garage) is the tier 5 "toaster."

I kept it for some reason and have grown to love it. It can be one-shotted by big guns that know where to shoot and leopards are the bane of its existence, but it is the best sniper in tier 5, easily inflicting massive damage from across the map early in the battle, and with great mobility able to move in and clean up at the end of the game. Despite its reputation as poorly armored on one-on-ones it can brawl in the end game with heavies. My clan mates who have tooned with me are all wondering when WoT is going to offer this thing for sale again...

...so the moral isn't always which tanks are "good" but how to play each tank to its advantage.

Most of the higher tier lights have a high skill ceiling except for T92E1 and Sheridan.

The best armor is no armor!

Never said I couldn't play it (read the last line of my signature).. I just was never able to Ace it before I hit 100 battles.. and I dang sure wasn't going to play a single battle more than 100 in order to try to do so! Sold that sucker in less than 30 seconds after completing that 100th battle lol! I fulfilled the terms of the bet so I was done lol.

Premium is certainly the Lorraine 40T

Tech Tree: so many from which to choose.

The JP TD line is rough except for the tier 7

French Auto-Loaders are similar to the Lorraine but better Alpha and shorter reloads

It really depends upon the play style. The German TD line is pants until the Borsig. Some crazy [edited]love the St. Emil...

Emil is good though.... just a bit too slow

Had a couple decent games in the 13 75 yesterday. Mobility and timing. Fragile little bugger though.

T71 is better now; 10 degrees of gun depression and a 1.5 sec interclip reload. Moves around great.
