So right now I’m grinding up the German tech tree up to tier 6. On four different vehicles (Nashorn, Jagdpanzer IV, VK 30.01 P and VK 36.01 H,) there is a choice between a gun with faster reload and higher pen or a gun with more damage per shot. I’m thinking about doing higher pen for the TDs and more damage for the turreted tanks. What do you all think? Thanks!
(On a funny side note, I was playing my newly bought Jagdpanzer IV yesterday and I saw a three shot VK 30.01 P. So I pull up in front of him and start shooting. I had the fast reload gun mounted, so I finished him very quickly. Then he pops up in chat calling me a hacker because I took 3 secs to reload and says he will report me. It made me laugh.)

I would run the 8.8 on the Vk 30 and JG, gives them that extra punch without losing much. For the Vk 36 and Nashorn it is really up to you, both guns seem very nice, so it just depends on your playstyle.
So to preface, allow me to introduce you to the concept of "DPM", or Damage Per Minute, which is the amount of damage a gun will do on average per minute over an extended period of time, calculated by multiplying rate of fire by damage per shot.
JgPz IV
Run the 8,8cm, not the 7,5cm. Yes, the 7,5cm has a faster reload, but the 8,8cm has more DPM. What this means is that if you were trying to say, kill a Maus, the 8,8cm gun will actually chew through that 3000HP faster than the 7,5cm (56.6s on the 88 vs 59.2s on the 75 with gun rammer and provisions), or for a more realistic target, like the ARL-44 with 1150HP, it's ~24.2s on the 88 vs. ~25.0s on the 75. What this means is that the 88 sacrifices none of the ability of the 75 to kill things quickly, but actually does so better, and with more damage per shot. Having 220 damage per shot vs. 160 is a pretty big difference at tier 6, and you only sacrifice a tiny bit of fully aimed accuracy, and like 5mm of penetration on the AP shells (which is pretty much negligible)
Nashorn
Run the "big" 8,8cm gun. You do lose the DPM on the smaller 88, but it's worth it to gain a whopping 60mm of extra penetration. With 145mm of AP pen on the smaller 88, you might struggle to penetrate some targets, which makes it harder to use the DPM, especially on a big, turretless tank destroyer with tissue paper armor. On the top 88mm gun, you've got the same gun that's mounted on the tier 8 Panther II (and with more accuracy and DPM to boot), so you'll be able to shred even the most heavily armored tier 7's through the front no problem
VK 30.01P
Also run the 8,8cm gun. Once again, like the Jgpz IV, the 8,8cm might have the slower reload, but the DPM is higher, and you gain the extra damage per shot, and like the Jgpz IV, you also only lose a little bit of fully aimed accuracy and 5mm of AP penetration (which makes sense, because it's actually the same set of guns, but the JP4 just uses the TD designated PaK versions, and not the tank KwK designation)
VK 36.01H
So, uh, this is getting repetitive, but my advice would be to run the 8,8cm gun. Same DPM as the 75cm, but more damage per shot. This being said, the 7,5cm Waffe on the VK 36 does at least have a penetration advantage compared to the KwK 7,5cm L/60 on the other tanks, so if you really want some extra penetration (12mm more on the AP, 26 on the APCR), you can run the 7,5cm gun, but sacrifice the damage per shot on the 88.
On a sidenote, you may have noticed that sometimes, your tanks already came with some guns or engines already unlocked, even before you played the tank. This is because some tanks share these modules with other tanks. The easiest example of this is the 8,8cm KwK 36 L/56 (which is also the historically feared "88" on the Tiger) on the VK 36.01H and VK 30.01P. If you research a module on one tank, all modules with the exact same name will be unlocked on all tanks in the same nation.
TL/DR (Too Long Didn't Read)
Run the biggest 88mm gun you can on all 4 tanks

Thank you very much! I was actually wondering about that whole thing of the guns seeming to research themselves. Thanks again!
