It’s reasonably well armored, but I probably won’t be getting it as I don’t really play at the times that the tournaments happen.

I'm getting my Tiger II back just so I can earn this tank. One of the few tanks in the tech tree I didn't have before 5.5

Jumbo doesn’t fair well in tier 7 battles after all of the armor buffs to tier 7 heavies.  The pen is lacking for a relatively low mobility tank.

Sold the Jumbo because the penetration sucks. It's a clubber top tier if it can hit and pen its shots. It's bad bottom tiered as tier 7s can pen you easily.

It used to Have the option of the m1a2 76mm gun for a weaker turret but that went away. 
 

the pen isn’t the issue as it’s the same as the Sherman and the Sherman is anything but bad against tier vii. Your reload for the alpha is what the problem is. The Type 58 has some pen and slightly slower reload but 200 alpha.

The main reason I've kept the Jumbo post 5.5 is that it is a darn fun drive in gravity mode. It is basically the super Pershing of its tier and the power ups in gravity and uprising suit it well.

pen is an issue.  EZ8 has the speed to maneuver for side shots.  Jumbo suffers in mobility.   Plus even the EZ8 has much more difficulty with pen than it used to.  
 

ARL (even though it is a heavy) is better at the Jumbo’s role in almost every category.  Top speed, p/w, pen, dpm, alpha, front hull armor.   The jumbo is only better in traverse and turret armor.  Side hull is better too, but not enough to matter.

The Jackson is a far better jumbo Sherman than the jumbo Sherman.

is it pen or is it mobility? 
 

if it’s pen then the ez8 also has that problem. Yet it can’t be as you just said the e8 has the mobility to maneuver.

I think what he meant gavidoc, is that both tanks pen sucks, but the E8 has the giddy up to put in shots on the flanks where the crappy pen isn’t as much an issue. Or conversely the jumbo is so slow these days you’re shooting fronts of heavily armored tanks with that crappy pen.
I thought I could game the current mastery event and bought back the jumbo. Hadn’t driven it since I sold it for gold. What a miserable half dozen battles. I used to enjoy the jumbo, but now it’s the definition of power creep.

I took it for a spin after they collectorized it. Wasn't impressed with what it had become vs. what it had been. 

Still though, I don't feel the E8, Fury or the Jumbo have a pen issue.

 

A bigger issue is the dpm that the Jumbo has. That is severely lacking. So not only are you slow but your DPM is bad for when you do show up.

It absolutely has pen issues.  128 AP pen was fine a few years ago.   Then WG decides to start buffing heavy tank armor at just about every tier.  That pen puts you at a severe disadvantage today, and coupled with worse than many heavy tank mobility and poor dpm, the Jumbo is now a bad tank.  
 

To put the 128 pen into context, the only tanks with worse pen of all tier 6 tanks (not just mediums) are the Victory and type 58, two tanks known for their poor pen (at least they are fairly mobile), and the type 64.  
 

Using gold is not a viable option, since that only makes the Jumbo’s bad dpm even worse.
