Trying to convince myself that this tank is good. Really could use some pointers on it as I got it cause the other deals did not appeal to me...slightly less than the 40t but wanted it.

From what I’ve seen, it’s a little like the Emil I in which you have to have teammates to cover you when you reload.

Also, do you have an Obj 252U? If not, you probably should’ve bought that instead of the 40T.

No, I’m not defending German technical superiority, I’m stating the ****ing obvious!

If you want an OP tank anybody can play, get the 252U

If you want a tank that's actually fun to grind credits in, get the 40t.

It might not be for everyone, but I find it way more enjoyable then the numerous copy_paste IS-X spam tanks.

Be conservative with you hitpoints at the start of the battle. Autoloaders are at their most dangerous near the end of the game, especially when you're packing a solid clip potential.

You should never be spearheading the charge with this tank. It's a large, unarmored target with minimal camo.
Play it like a Batchat, minor early nuisance, endgame menace.

If you want a tank to teach patience, the 40t is a great one.

It’s paper, so never count on any bounces.
So don’t make bad trades - it also isn’t as nimble as the French Lights - so drive by’s are very dangerous.

It is a support tank at the start.  Use it to hit distracted reds or reds awaiting reload.
Then use the gun burst to clear reds mid game, where hopefully you have enough HP left that you can take a hit and give 2-3 to clear a tank - reload and continue.

Don’t feel obligated to fire more than once if you decide to poke-sometimes shooting two or more rounds means you’ll get shot. BUT-BUT AND HEAR ME OUT how many times have you not pushed on an autoloader because you knew they still had rounds in the magazine? Just because you haven’t fired all your rounds doesn’t mean you don’t have influence over the field.
And if you are in a reload, you can use that time to relocate.
Also it’s just shy of 40 tons, so use that speed to ram lights, meds, tds and those Swedish heavies (which are about 30-35 tons).
Abuse your gun depression and hard cover to hide your hull.
And if you can’t make a shot happen, drive somewhere else. I have died early and often because I drive up and over a ridge line to put a couple of rounds on someone just to take two major caliber rounds and burn up.

I really like it, in fact I find it more enjoyable than the 252U. Your clip damage is the highest at tier VIII, so as long as you focus on a distracted enemy, you’re golden. Look at it this way: if you get out 2 full clips(all shots penning), you will have more than your fair share for the game. It’s a dynamic tank, not meant to stay put, so when you have the chance, relocate and reload

Solid advice given above. I’m largely in agreement with all of it but would like to underline what LordDumpTruck and Crusader6 mentioned. I highlight similar in these videos.

In the 2nd video, watch from the time stamped starting point and then jump to TankEatingTiger’s Mastery game.

I call it the most stressful tank in the game for a reason. It is also my favorite. It is unique in the game.

I really like the lorraine, I am playing it now after buying it for cheap in the Black Friday sale.  The clip reload is lengthy but it can really pump damage when you learn to time the reload with your engagement with the enemy.

A 70%'er mouthed off during the starting countdown to all the greens.  I regretted that I was in my Lorraine (because of this thread), but found that street justice worked on his E25.  He learned hard that his idiocy would not be tolerated.  Typical 70%'er.

Solid advice by all. Lorddumptruck touched on 401 level auto loading tanks, baiting shots or pushes or holding them off while on a reload.
Don’t be afraid to only fire half your clip, or hold tight on a reload. Everyone knows the running auto loader is out of the battle for the next 20 seconds.
Like every tank, know your predators and know your prey.

I am much more comfortable in the 50 100 because the clip has about the same potential and can get it out in three rounds instead of four, and I seem to have found a groove with it recently.
The reload itself is the same duration, so if you’re used to the 50 100’s reload then you’re good to go.
The Lorraine has the same horsepower as the 50 100, so it’s better power to weight and top speed feel more like a function of all the armor that’s been stripped off a 50 100 chassis.
For me, I think it’s a neat tank that I’m bound to get in trouble in-I would put myself in aggressive positions where I didn’t have a lot of cover from team mates and then when I try to back up for the reload a T49 comes along and starts a bonfire in my crew compartment.
And Meat Locker’s right, it can be a stressful tank sometimes! It’s one of the few tanks in which I’m certain each shot that hits me will pen, and I’m pleasantly surprised when it only demolishes my tracks or spangs off the turret or something. At least in the 50 100 I feel like maybe 30% of the shots on me will bounce or get gobbled on my tracks.

The Emil spam worries me in this tank. Every tier 8 purchase going forward  should ask, “ can it handle the Emil 1?”.
