These days, the forum is a shell of its former self. We reminisce about the GOATs of the forums, Ratbat and Sly. One of the great things about these two, besides being great on the forums, was being great off the forums. By this, I’m referring to the events where they’d stream and you would win gold if you killed them. It was great fun and a lot of people got involved. 
 

Why not now? Why not Ribble or someone else at WG do a similar event. They stream themselves, and whoever kills them gets 1,000 gold (pretty sure this was the prize with Sly and Ratbat). Whether it be for the forums only (hopefully) or for the discord server. NA only or one server a week. Could be anywhere from an hour to however longer. I think it’d be really fun for all and would improve the connection between the forumers, other players, and the devs/mods/WG.

Even just an hour stream in a test vehicle would be cool. Why couldn't we have some weekly engagement and fun with some staff or dev? Don't they want to play with us? :0

Because under Alo8ight it was about establishing a player base. Now it’s about monetizing off a large mainstream group. That is how games progress and that’s how they always will.

Sad but probably true. That and WG has moved to Discord as primary means of communication with the playerbase. Doesn't allow for cleaner discussion and is thus less conducive to developer interactions beyond the random survey and announcement.

Sounds honestly quite cool. And we know they can do it because of both WoT/Wow's Twitch, with the drops, and the WoTB YT streams.

Hard to tell but that cesspool of a discord channel was the last nail in the coffin.

Hmm. I disagree with this. Yes, the forum will never match how it was when key components about the game were being discovered and discussed for the first year or two. Or when new premium tanks were a rarity and a major event worthy of deep threads. Or before discord (private/clan) pulled away much of the top tier of player base.

 

But the forum is also a lot better now than it was a couple years ago, not to mention the period after when Wargaming cut the NA staff. Threads turn over at a decent rate, advice is often good, and the mods clean up the crap pretty well. Heck, it's been long enough that there are quite a few excellent posters that have no idea who you're talking about when you say Sly or Ratbat.

The forums have less activity but are more entertaining these days.

 

It was nice when you could talk to actual WG employees about things like what stats they used to measure the success of +-1, etc., but take very thick skin because some subset of the forum crowd always behaved like [edited] hats towards them.  Not surprised they gave up.  Fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice ...

The main problems here are ping issues and time difference. This is what prevents us from streaming such things. 
But to be honest i don't see any problem in me experiencing 200 ms ping and trying to survive in battles with you guys. It might be fun i guess.
Just give me some time to think about details and we'll resume this thread.
