I have been wondering if your crew can get knocked out without drowning.

Question in title. I don't remember if this has happened to me befor. I was sniping with the T28 Defender and I shot an Emil 2 with he and it look like he had hp even thoughts game said I destroyed him. Is this possible or is it a bug? (I don't have a replay because I forgot to turn on replays when the update came out).

It's possible that if his driver was already dead and you killed his other three crew members with the HE, then it would be the same as drowning. Never seen it happen in battle though.

Strangely, killing all the crew does not knock out the tank. Blitz With Muffin did a test that shows a tank still being operational with a completely dead crew:

My theory is that when when tanks were ported from WOT the radio and radioman were eliminated, but the radioman’s functions were retained. Since one of those functions is to fill in for dead crew members we have the ghost of an absent crew member running the tank.

(He also did a test with all crew members dead and all modules destroyed and the tank continued operating. Apparently the radioman’s ghost makes repairs).

Interesting.

I vaguely recall being unable to do anything in low tiers, a couple times, way back when ... which I thought was that my crew was dead, but my tank still had hitpoints.

Now that I thought of it I'm sure Blitzhanger displays all the crew and some of the tanks have a radioman while others don't. Example: The M2 Light has a radioman but the T-26 doesn't.

You can no longer destroy a tank by killing the entire crew

That used to be possible, but it was removed in an update years ago

True, Armor Inspector does show a radioman on some tanks.

Darn, I enjoyed that theory.

another aspect to this is how many crew members there are.

TogII* has 13 crew members. That is too say , well, 13....
mx 13 have 2 on board. Or spic. If you kill them both there is no extra member.
the commander does the radio thingy.

you can check it because when one of them is shot, suddenly half of the tank is lame.

So maybe the experiment on an amx13 would have turned out differently ?

edit: positive replied. Damm I knew it sounded familiar …

T-26 didn’t have a radio. In fact kv-1 or T-34 didn’t even have ammunition in the early days of operation Barbarossa, and a radio until some time later.

kv1 still did fine though, when the clutch didn’t fail. To the horror of the Germanz.

and I thought I was the only one going to battle without ammo…
