I'm sure there are a lot of us who've been there, where we collect a large sum of Free XP and then decided what tech tree to research, but not entirely sure if you have enough. 

I decided to share my little research on amount of free XP needed to get to each tier X. (Note: some tier Xs had different tank paths, like the T-62A & Obj. 140 can be researched thru MT25 or T-34/85, but going down T-34/85 costs less XP.) I've put together the cheapest routes to each tier X without researching anything other then the module that leads to the next tank.

Nice. I see now why it seemed to take forever with me choosing the Japanese line as my first tier 10.
