Has MM changed? Noticed longer wait time even with heaps in the Q

Over the last few week i have often seen quite a few players in the tiers and queues that I am playing but even with 20 or more in a que it can be a minute ( 2 0r 3 is no longer uncommon ) or more before a game commences - it cant be that there all playing toons so I gotta wait for single players - its odd seeing all these available players and the numbers say you could easily put a game or two or 3 together ........

It’s just the MM trying to find the best platoon mates for you, it takes a few minutes to build a winning team. :trollface:

Look at what tanks are you playing.
   Keep in mind MM tries to push an equal number of the same subclass of Tank. 
Your playing almost exclusively heavies - and several of them Derp gun heavies - which will try to find an offset.   
 
I hate Annihilator spammers...  
Tank Hoarder: 504 tanks in Garage:  517/519 Played Tanks Aced
 
376 extra garage slots too - lucky me. 
 
I need more tanks...

oh - learnt something new today....thought the aim was to get games going as quickly as possible

It is, but both teams have to have a similar tank type line up.

Not necessarily, but playing the more common type tanks should.

i imagine if you play “common” tanks then it will take you longer to get into a game. an example would be when a new line comes into the tech tree and everyone is playing that tank type -  sometimes they have to suspend the MM rules. 
 

if you’re really wanting to get into games quickly then  a tier 9 light or medium is a good bet. It falls into two peak player masses (tier 8 and tier 10) and avoids heavies (which are popular) and TDs (which might still have team limits?).

So how are mm rules “suspended” exactly? Sounds like there’s at least some wiggle room for mm manipulation which I was not aware existed after living with ‘working as intended” for 8+ years….

suspend was perhaps a poor choice of words...there are (to my knowledge) several MM exceptions that can come into play, for example if server numbers are very low, the regular MM rules can be suspended to allow fewer than seven players per team. plus there are other MM rules, like the number of the same tanks on each team (2) which have been suspended when everyone is grinding a new line - so that three or even four of the same tank.

 

FWIW these exceptions are public knowledge, discussed here as well as on discord.

If you play the most played tank type, probably heavies or TDs, then you will have a longer wait time. This is because so many heavies are trying to fit into a small number of slots. If you play meds or lights (usually not played as much), then you will get faster wait times since there are more slots for you to fit into. This is especially noticable in ratings.

 

The rules are that only 4 max heavies, lights / meds per team, and the opposing team can only have 1 more or 1 less of the same tank class. TDs only get 3 max per team.

 

This is not really a balancing mm btw. It is still random, it just makes the game less toxic. This was put in place because there were 5 camping TDs on one team and 7 heavies on the other back in the day.

Hmm. I played meds and tds. Rarely had a wait worth mentioning.

MM is trash I get 1 or 2 wins with a decent team then I'm on a 5 loss slide with the most moronic players I've seen. They need to stop the cross play with mobile players cause mobile players tend to be brat kids that need to go back to minecraft.
