If you made it to Platinum League, keep doing what you're doing. Most people only make it to Silver or Gold...including me.
BOLO [Boh-Low] verb. US Military slang meaning Failure. Example: Dude, you bolo'd the sh!t out of that. Now sarge is going to smoke the sh!t out of you until you die.

Thanks. It may be the alcohol talking, but it would probably make the most sense to listen to people in the platinum/diamond league... no insult intended lol

Yeah there a lot of heavies in rating battles, especially at tier 8. But that doesn't mean other tank types don't work. I would play whatever tank type you are most comfortable with. Heavies are pretty strong right now so that's what everyone gravitates to. But that also means that medium and light tanks become more valuable for their mobility and DPM.
I only play tier X battles in ratings. Honestly I think tier X should be the only tier available for rating, since it's supposed to represent the pinnacle of it's tank line. Try out tier X and see if it's easier for you, since you will get a different group of players (probably more experienced). And you won't be low tier.
There aren't really any tricks to rating battles. You just have to play your best and improve. Blaming teammates won't help. If you are complaining about no one spotting, grab a medium or light and do it yourself. Also, don't treat it like a pub match. Rating and pub are very different, people are more attentive and there is (for the most part) no one to be your meat shield. I think a lot of good pub players struggle in rating because of this. It's just a matter of tweaking your playstyle a bit

My tank of choice in Platinum league was the progetto 46, but 5k+ I played nothing but the Shark. I ran calibrated shells to crack Emil turrets, which was the tank of choice for every other player in the top 10. Flexible hull-down Heavies were the meta, it wasn't uncommon to see two Emil 1s on each team, and you lived in fear of the dreaded triple Emil when the 1951 was thrown into the mix. Games were decided by the duel between Diamond league heavies for dominance of key positions
In short, Heavies are indeed the most influential tanks in ratings, this had held true for a long time.

You ran calibrated shells in the shark, or the progetto 46? I have the shark and the Emil 1951, though I find the Emil more fun in general than the shark.

In regular battles I always run rammer or vents, but during ratings I found that the Shark could pen the Emil 1's turret reliably when it ran CS. This was huge when it came time for duels on maps like mines.
