Thanks Sheriff.  One of my earliest platoon experiences was with one of these "platoonzillas".  She'd shout out orders to the team at the beginning of every match.  Orders that often made no sense.  Very immature.  I didn't want to seem rude, but after a dozen or so matches I simply told her I didn't think our play styles meshed well, and wished her the best.  (assuming it was a "her"...you never know on the internet).  I think we lost 80% of our games together.  After I dismissed the platoon, I saw she had a 45% win rate.  Live and learn.

Keep up the good work. I love reading your instructional/educational posts! I meant to comment on an earlier post called "how I padded up to 65% WR" but I forgot. I found that one so useful, I was wondering if it could be pinned somewhere.

Yes I did edit it. I was asking for a cheat sheet or list of the top ten things that make up a good platoon. Then I said that it didn't have to be ten things but whatever you could come up with. I changed my post because you pretty much listed what makes up a good platoon. I was looking more of a simple list from 1-10 without the elaborate explanation. I didn't want people to start spamming at me that your thread was a list, so I deleted it. I wanted something more for quick reference. Well we've come this far so can you please make a list for me? Thanks! :)

I love that song by Led Zeppelin, what's it called? Oh yeah "Ramble On"

Whew. So I'm not losing it. I'll try to think of a top 10 qualities and add it to the OP, though the Sheriff already made some excellent points on the subject. :0)

A good platoonmate is flexible, grateful, understanding, and will be open to play maps the way that his platoonmate wants to part of the time but will also call out a strategy when time is right and the other guy will listen too.  If you are platooning with a closed minded person that only wants to do things their way and is selfish about tiers, tank types, and grinds.  Then You are better off alone.  There are some very smart, considerate, and understanding people out there to platoon with and they are not easy to find.  There are some platoonzillas out there. I have certain pet peeves about platoon buddies.  First time i hear anything about kill stealing im gone.  Worse still is the guy that always wants to lead and fails to adapt to strategic situation.  When you see something they don't peel off and carry the match they blame you for their poor choices and that they died early, cut them lose, fast.

Awesome points, sheriff. Thanks for the additions.

Another thing I find very useful, is to pay attention to the vocabulary used by your platoon mate towards others both on your team and the enemies'.  I find some of my best platoon mates can almost always be light hearted and joke around, never using any offensive or abusive language.

Definitely. I try to steer clear of players that rage every match regardless of the outcome.

Thanks Thunderthies.  I'm a decent solo player, but I rarely see any benefit from platooning.  This is probably because I'll accept a platoon request from anyone, and also because I haven't figured out how to be an effective platoon member.  Very rarely I'll have an opportunity to platoon with someone who's much better than me, then I see a significant improvement in win rate.  I don't invite anyone better than me though, because I usually feel like I'm not contributing my share.

There's some good tips here.  I hope to read more on the subject.  I almost made a thread to ask "what makes a good platoon mate?"

Right on, PA60Pilot. I think it's good to platoon with players who are better than you, but only marginally so. If they are too far outside your skill level you will:

1. Not be able to contribute equally

2. Not be able to glean skills from the better player

Glad to hear the thread helped!

Thanks, jaquevius! I'm not sure the "How I stat padded my way to a 65% WR" thread is pin worthy, but I may incorporate those tactics and techniques into a more overarching advanced guide, and then maybe we can get that one pinned. :0)

Having the pleasure to watch Sheriff and his Platoonmate utterly waste the Reds last night in their tier 9 heavies in a tier ten game, I would say he knows what he speaks.  Well done Sheriff.

Is that the one where we destroyed thunderthies' platoon?  :D  just kiddin' that NEVER happened

We've all had horrid platoonmates and the thing I would love to know unfortunately the stats dont include it, is my platoon WR.  I think a lot of the anti platoon folks might be surprised how many losses happen in platoons too.

What are you talking about. "Pie the corner" is a household phrase now in pop culture. I even changed the way I mow the grass now. I start at the outside working my way in, being oh so careful that I don't EVER have grass on 2 fronts at once. I had a strategic boulder placed for sidescraping with my John Deer and everything. Once I win the hill, that grass below just knows its over and doesn't even fight back.

After reading this and many of the responses, I do think I need to up my platoon matches. Percentages being what they are lately, platooning has garnered more wins than solo in recent battles. Have to read the writing on the wall and get to the next step to get the last 1.20% to hit that coveted 50% WR.

Thank you for this, I am new to the forums and just finding this post, great work!

My regular platoon mate has an early bedtime (my son) and am having a hard time finding platoons.  There should be a match.com for this stuff.
