I recently sold my Kv 4(tress) and got an ST-I. Got in one battle then I had to go. I did not think that this would be good at sidescraping, but in a thread by dimzzy (forgive the spelling) it looks like I was wrong. Anyone have any tips on sing this tank? I am going to free xp it (I have top gun from my IS8) so it will be max... Better or worse than kv4? (for its tier obviously)

Roll slowly to the battle - crush all before you!

Seriously though - it's similar in many ways to the KV-3 and KV-4 before it. It has a fabulously tough turret, so hull down it is a complete monster.  Angle it to make your hull difficult to penetrate, and if you can cover that lower plate you are tough to kill even for a tier X.

The turret cheeks are weak spots - so keep moving/wiggling a bit to get more bounces.

The good news is that I like it better than the KV-4tress - it's a true heavy with a good gun for it's tier.

IS-8 has problems pennings ST-I even with heat, so in terms of armor, it's way better, plus you can sidescrape the crap out of it

Hull down, it has almost impenetrable turret armor (one weakspot and prammo can sometimes go through) and great gun depression letting you laugh at even tier X TD's if you wiggle amd are set up right

To oversimplify - play it similar to the KV4 (sidescrape, angle, hull down) and you'll do fine.  It's a strong tank. :great:

ST-I is a side scrapping beast, even the IS4 is a good side scraper, hull down almost indestructible except for commanders hatch which is tiny and difficult to pen from far, rock back and forth in a hull down spot and you can anchor a point in the map. Play it like the KV-4, but in most ways it is OP when played well.

I found the best way (if possible depending on the situation) to play the ST-I is face-to-face hug the enemy such as E75 / E100, and fire HEAT at their turret. On the other hand, they only see your turret. The impenetrable turret armor of the ST-I will bounce every single shots from E75 and even E100. When you face-to-face hug them, you have hided the only weak spot on ST-I which is the lower plate. You end up killing the E75 / E100 while taking little to no damage at all.

Obviously this method will only work if the enemy is alone by himself. And ONLY on a few specific tanks like the E100 and E75. I found this tip in a YouTube video and I have tried it myself. It works perfectly every time. I remember once I had less than 300 health left and killed a full health E75 using this method. Then, the E75 started crying in chats calling me a hacker!! And this works with E100 too. I pushed the E100 against the wall and killed him doing this!!! I just couldn't stop laughing when all of his shots bounce on my monster turret.

This is just from my experience; I am no expert but I wanted to share this if it helps anyone.

Have to disagree with the similar to KV-3&4 comments.  Those tanks you want to spend time angling your armor and there are lots of tanks they face that struggle to pen them from any angle that isn't perfectly square.   If you get hull down in the STI you are practically invulnerable.  So do that and side scrape.  Your sides are much more vulnerable in it than in those other tanks so you have to be aware of your flanks.

As long as you free XP the turret and the top gun you are good to go. Sidescrape or hull down as ST-1 has an unusually good for a Russian tank gun depression.

Also you will need a lot of credits to run that tank - it eats credits like there is no tomorrow.
