My bonafides - started playing Blitz on July 3rd having never played any 'World of' game before. Therefore I am emminently qualified to write a newbie guide..lol.

This isn't a guide about Tips, Tactics and Procedures. This is a guide about my 'what the heck does that mean' moments in the game.  The in game tutorial is very short and doesn't do a good job of explaining anything other than gameplay basics.

1. Vehicle symbology.

There are three types of tanks and a tank destroyer:

Light - Identified by a diamond.

Medium - Identified by two diagonal slashes, or a diamond cut in half.

Heavy - Identified by three diagonal slashes, or a diamond in thirds.

Tank Destroyers - Identified by a point down triangle.

Wreaths around the vehicle symbols mean that you have researched all of the modules and vehicles associated in the upgrade screen. Denotes elite status. (Thanks EPICANDY0131)

2. After action review (debrief) screen.

After every battle you will see how you did in the battle. There are two tabs. Medals you earned during the battle are displayed over both tabs, these are the only 'active' parts of the screen. You can press on a medal to find out what it is and historical info on named medals.

Personal score tab.

Spoiler contains the picture of the tab.

Spoiler

Right side is self explanatory. All statisics from the battle.

Left side is confusing. Each tank on the opposing side that you interacted in a meaningful way during the battle is displayed with icons in columns telling you how you interacted.

1st column - Players In Game Name (IGN)
2nd column - Vehicles destroyed.
3rd column - Critical hits on vehicles. Damaging tracks, ammo racks, fuel tanks, etc.
4th column - Pentrating hits on vehicles.
5th column - Spotting damage. You spotted a vehicle that was out of an allies view range that since you saw it they we able to damage.
6th column - First to spot an enemy vehicle.

If a tank is listed but none of the columns are filled in, you shot and hit the tank but did no damage to it.
(Thanks to SGM_Zorbaz and Onemeaus for explaining it to me)

Team score tab.

Spoiler

This tab shows the raw scores for both teams.

1st column - Players in a platoon.
2nd column - Players IGN.
3rd column - Vehicle used.
4th column - Amount of damage caused.
5th column - Number of penetrating hits.
6th column - Experience earned.

3. Lightbulb over your vehicle.

When a lit lightbulb appears over your vehicle, you have been spotted by the enemy and they have transmitted your location to their team. You now show up on their minimap and you can be directly engaged by vehicles who couldn't see you before. If you can hide behind an object after 10 seconds you will 'disappear' again. If you are still getting engaged after hiding to clear your symbol, you are still being spotted by an enemy.

Spoiler

4. Consumables.

You are only charged for consumables if you use them. However chocolate/extra combat rations/case of cola are used immediately upon battle start, so if you pick one of these you will pay for it every match.

5. Icon/name color change.

If someone on your team has their color change to blue or someone on the enemy side changes to orange, they have killed a teammate.  You are now free to kill the person on your team without penalty. Be aware however, in a lot of games team killing is accidental. I was doing peek a boom side by side with a teammate when they decided to abandon the inside position as I shot. My round went beautifully into his side.

6. Scanning the battlefield.

You are trading shots with an enemy, a new threat appears in the mini map on your flank, what do you do?  Well you can spin your turret to point at the the new threat or use this.

The ruler looking thing is a way to look around the battlefield without moving your turret. Keep your gun pointed downrange and take a peek to your side while you reload.

7.  Why did I lose credits?

There are three ways you use credits after a battle. Refilling ammunition, refilling consumables, repairing your tank. In this game I lagged out and by the time I got back in I was dead.  I actually somehow got halfway across the map before I died. Now notice I shot no rounds, I also used no consumables, I only have a repair kit, fire extinguisher and a 1st aid kit on this tank none of which I needed before I lagged out.

This is a fully upgraded T29 with 1250 hps. I've spent 7985 credits to repair my tank. You not only have to spend credits to restore full hps, you have to repair damaged modules as well.  This creates an expense that is not always the same.

As I've said I am a complete noob, so any and all errors and omissions are mine and mine alone.

Thanks for reading,

Sioux

Great guide thanks. What does the lightbulb that pops up on the battlefield mean?

Thanks for the guide. I agree with the idea that the Blitz tutorial is a bit short and only explains the actions of battling.

When you see the lightbulb appear, it means you have been spotted by the enemy. Find some solid cover as soon as possible.

I looks good to me. We have many new players here who need a basic guide like this. +1

Don't forget mini map. Upper left corner.  White circle is capture circle. Red symbols are enemy tanks.  Green are your team mates.  You can reset an enemy base capture by damaging the red tank in the capture circle

one last point - WoTB has an auto ban feature for folks that damage friendly tanks.  If you accidentally dopa age a team mate's tank once in a while, no big deal.  But if you do it a lot, you will get an auto ban.  You can't appeal these bans either.

Great guide......
