So, I own all of the tier X mediums except the Leopard 1 and the US M48 Patton. I'm thinking of picking up the Leo soon. But, I gave it some thought, and the M48 has been biting at me for awhile. It looks awesome, the gun stats nice, and it's basically an FV4202, for all intensive purposes, except slightly faster, with weaker frontal armor. 

 

Yes, I've been wanting the Leo since 1.9 has been introduced, but the Patton has been one of those tanks that I want, but I haven't been thinking about. I'll say right here, I'm no US tank fan. German tanks have been my long time interest. But, US have a special place inside me, since they fought in the Korean War. I picked up the Pershing a few months ago, after visiting a museum and seeing one in person. The M46 Patton does not impress me, it's sluggish, the armor is terrible, and the gun is innacurate from what I've heard. I'm used to slow mediums, as I drive a 7/1 and 4202, but those have good turrets. The M46, does not. Same with the gun.

 

My point is, skip M46? get M48? or just shut up and buy the Leo 1 like I've been wanting? I'm not the best decision maker, I'll tell you that. Yes, both tanks' play styles I know.

Should have made a poll, but I have the e50 on Xbox, and it is a HORRIBLE GRIND to max out the tank, but once it's fully upgraded its a BEAST, can't comment on the patrons tho as I stopped before getting the Pershing

I can say that the poll results would most likely be in the Patton's favour. I need honest answers. Also... I didn't ask about the E-50, but ok. Yes, the E-50 grind is terrible. That's why I used free XP.

I only have the patton but with my personal experience i think it is the best medium, ive been able to one on one any other medium and out dpm then just about.

M46 has the best DPM out of all tier 9 mediums, I don't think skipping it is a good option. Careful of its AP pen, its not really anything to write home about. Neither is the accuracy. Good thing is, gold ammo fixes everything. Gun depression is also great. Despite that, hull down isn't an option in this tank, the turret armor is unreliable against the tanks it meets, although you may bounce low tiers here and there. 

 

M48 isn't much of a great tank in my opinion. Turret, yes its trollish, but still weak. Gun? Yes it fires reasonably fast, but could've had a better DPM. Mobility? Its mobile, but isn't enough. Also, its large. Gun depression is still great though.

 

If you ever feel you want a Leopard, then get it. Its a nice tank, with a laser gun which is accurate on the move too. Combined with great mobility, this thing circles around maps faster than other tank it competes. DPM is among the best too. Just remember it has no armor, so don't get too close.

Both tanks, the m46 and m48 are amazing and miracle workers. They pull off amazing games.

M46 was my first tier 9, and my stats reflect that. I got better though. It's meant for flanking and side shots, never front on engagements. It has poor accuracy, but good accuracy while firing on the move (if that makes sense). It's a very good tank.

Get the M46.The stock grind is relatively short compared to say, the e-50, and the 105 is devastating. Couple that with decent mobility, great gun depression (used for harassing heavies, not hull down) and best in tier view range (lets you always get the first shot off), and you have a great tank. The armor department is lacking but, it scores a lot of lucky bounces, and mediums should wolfpack anyway. The m48 is, meh. It's the exact same as an m46, but a tier higher, and cheap APCR, so its not as good for its tier, and is often expected to carry as hard as an E-100, which never works out. 

 

From what I've seen of the Leo, it's not spectacular. It has the same 105mm L7 as every other Tier IX and X medium (except Russians),and it has armor any fool can pen with HE. The mobility is superior, but the T62 is pretty close, so it in a nutshell, it does nothing any other medium can't do just as well, if not better.

The M46 is, in my opinion, the best tier 9 medium in the game at the moment...

Very good gun (decent pen, outstanding DPM, and while it does have .4 dispersion, I feel like I usually hit what I'm aiming at, except maybe at extreme range. I think I read that the reticle bloom on the Patton is very good, so the dispersion is somewhat negated. Don't quote me on that tho.)

If u get the M46 the top turret is not bouncy as usual American turret are.

Once the m46 is maxed, it's a really solid tank. Hull down and peek-a-boo at mid range and you'll wreck the enemies. The gun depression allows you to stealth attack from so much more areas than say Russian mediums. The gun is good and reloads fast, speed is just fast enough to get out of sticky situations if you have speed boost. IMO too fast of a medium can get you killed. The mechanical limitation makes you slow down and play smarter. For me, my highest WR mediums are the medium fast ones like M46/M48, Victory. The worst part of m46 is that horrid engine sound.. *shudders*

 

M48 on the other hand is a beast. I love playing that thing, put in 800 battles in less than a month. Looks awesome, troll armor, amazing gun (more pen than e5), perfect amount of speed (won't get stuck in situations like the m46 sometimes). Strong mantlet can face hug any medium and destroy them. I have no problems against 54 or 62 one on one. Go for it!

Don't skip the M46. I am grinding it right now and it is a fun tank! I thought the T-54 was the end all be all of tier IX mediums but I am loving the Patton so much more! Abuse the gun depression and the DPM! You get the occasional bounce but it's nothing to write home about armour wise. Just abuse the speed, the DPM and the gun depression and you will have a good time!

Really? I don't see how anything can be better than the 54.

 

Im on the t20 grind right now so looking forward to the m46 after this comment.

I have never had an issue dispatching a Patton with my t54 so I would not call it the best tier 9.

Before I owned the M46 I would scoff at those singing its praises.  After all on paper it is pretty mediocre.  That and you run into a lot of drivers who are underwhelming in it.  Now that I own it I think it might be the best tank in the game.  Great gun depression, awesome DPM, with good enough speed.  Armor isn't great for sure, but this means you don't count on it and with the gun depression you don't really need to.
