I just had a game on castilia in my JGPZ E-100 where 2 consecutive side shots on american tier 8 heavy tanks did no damage, in the first case the T34's turret was not aimed at me and it hit the center of the tracks and did not pen, on the second I was only 20 feet from a t32' fired and watched a 300 pen shell bounce off 76 mm of armor with no angle, then my next shell bounced because he pulled back in time and my third hit him in the upper glasis while I shot down on him and did not pen, has the RNG changed to 90% instead of 25%?

Perfect example of RNG laughing in your face.

It's completely random. Just accept it, it happens sometimes

Tracks in general tend to eat up shots. They are spaced armor and sometimes, your shots will penetrate but do zero damage. A good example of this are russian tracks. They tend to eat up shots very well. You have to hit where the primary armor is to do damage. Suggest you look at the Armor Inspector app.

If you're using HEAT by any chance, that'd explain a lot.

Shooting the front track wheel is almost a guaranteed pen on the IS tanks.

Tier Xs (in order of unlocking): T110E5, M48 Patton, T-62A, IS-7, E50M, IS-4, FV4202, T110E3, FV215b, Obj. 268, T110E4, Leopard 1, Obj. 140, STB-1, Obj. 263, T57 Heavy, AMX 50B, Bat Chat 25t

Most played tank: T-62A (3,100 battles)

Even if you think you hit the hull the arc of your round may have bounced off the top. I see this happen to me alot of times. Also the turret of any american heavy is iffy. Stout bounce houses any small movement from the red while your shot is en route can cause a bounce. X2 on the tracks. The heavies are great at eating up a round with them. The only situation i see aiming for them is to track it in place. Hulls so weak no need to aim tracks ever.

Standard AP, who uses heat on tier 8 heavies, are you trying to pen the tank behind them?

And I have armor inspector but it seemed ilogical for game mechanics to let this happen, the shell can pen a foot of armor and it gets stopped by a couple of pieces of cast iron?

There is nothing but tracks on the side of a T32, and his turret face is impenetrable even to a tier X TD

I have whole games in the E-100 where all I do is bounce until I die. Next game I'll pen everything and anything that moves. RNG seems to have a wide range for the big germans. Don't really encounter such drastic differences in my other tanks.

I've never seen you play, so I have no idea what you do or do not know. You've probably seen plenty of people do inexplicable things, so my question wasn't out of nowhere.

Anyway, a round isn't "stopped" by a couple of pieces of cast iron (I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure no one made their road wheels out of cast iron anyway, since it'd be far too brittle,) but it is disrupted by it; even a small change in the shell's path or attitude could be enough to prevent it from penning the hull.

Have you played the ISU with a BL-10? It's nicknamed the Troll Cannon for a reason...

IRL that could initiate fuse action of the shell, look at the slat armor on modern AFVs. Also part of the reason American M4 tankers piled anything they could on their tanks: extra tracks, sandbags, wood, concrete. Not all equally effective, (sandbags were only good vs panzerfaust not AP shells for example) and the practice was eventually stopped (at least in Patton's 3rd Army) because the loss of mobility was causing more losses than without the extra protection.

Blitz isn't real life though, so pray harder to RNGesus I guess?
