Cool stuff, am I right?

Oh yeah. Ammo rack is a slower burn than we see in game - but you sure as hell don't want to be in one when it cooks off!

Obviously this one I didn't record, but it shows another HEAT projectile penetrating the crew compartment of a soviet tank, again resulting in ammo rack detonation. AT weapon in the video is an RPG-29 tandem warhead designed to defeat western style armor. It is massive overkill on the t72 in the video.

Not sure if I'm allowed to ask this but I'm really curious. What tank do your crew use, and what role do you play in the crew? (Gunner, Driver, etc.)

I am an M1A1 Abrams tank commander, but I started as a driver and have also been a gunner. My role on the tank is to supervise the crew and direct them in maneuvering the vehicle and firing the various weapons. Feel free to ask anything you're wondering about, I'm always happy to talk tanks.

What is the track suspension like? I wonder, because when you go over uneven terrain, I have the image of the crew bouncing around painfully off the hard metal interior.

The ride is actually surprisingly good even over difficult terrain, much more so than wheeled vehicles. You don't get tossed around like you do if you take a 4x4 truck off road. I usually describe it to people as similar to riding in a small boat on light chop. Now that's not to say you can't get seriously tossed around and banged up by a rookie driver, especially if he drives you off an embankment or into a sizable tree.

How long did it take to become a commander? And what is your favorite role out of the 3 if you have a favorite? :)

I had the opportunity to fill in as TC on tanks starting around my three year mark and I had my own tank after four years. I really enjoyed driving and I really enjoyed being a gunner, but I have to say that my favorite position is tank commander. It's a lot of fun training a crew and seeing it all come together and pay off on the gun range.

Wow, can't believe I forgot to upload this! What you're about to watch is a video of one of my favorite days on the tank. The story here is that we had a comm chief who everyone hated and this guy made his Marines build him an actual throne out of scrap wood. So, I said, "Hey, wouldn't it be funny if we made him drag it out there into the desert so we could shoot it with the tanks?" Then that's exactly what we did because, yes, that would be hiliarous, and yes, my life is a video game.

My tank is the tank on the left following up with COAX machine gun fire after the CAN volley, per published doctrine. For those who are wondering the M1028 canister round is a 120mm shotgun shell with a payload of 1098 tungsten 3/8 in ball bearings. The round is effective against personnel, cars, trucks, battlefield obstacles, and wooden thrones to a maximum range of around 400m.

Brix

Thinking about the can round got me to remembering just how freakin cool it really is. Dug around and turned up a few pictures and another video showcasing the awesomeness that is the M1028. Each of those 3/8 in tungsten balls I previously mentioned weighs about 145 grains, for you shootists out there. The combined weight of the shot tips the scales at 22.8 lbs, plus the aluminum shot cup that you can see tumbling towards the troop array.

The M1028:

Oh, and as always, ask any questions you might have about any of the videos. I'm always more than happy to talk tanks.

I'm too scared of real action; game is much better. Just look at the guy that runs from the T-72 hit by RPG--he won't forget that day for his whole life. Just think what he was feeling...

That last photo, were the wooden targets shot through the cinderblocks? Or was the cinderblocks behind the wooden targets?

And it looks like one wooden target was spared by RNGesus.

lucky man indeed. After watching that video many times over, I believe the guy you see running away was probably the tank commander. Looks like he is ejected from the turret by the ignited propellant, might notice he has his jacket blown up over his head. Pretty wild! Wouldn't be surprised if he ended up dying from burns later on.

the wooden troop targets were indeed behind the wall, they are simulating engaging an enemy rifle squad occupying a building. there is a higher resolution version of the after picture that shows all of the dummys received wounds that would have been fatal from the round itself, as well as fragmentation from the wall being torn apart by 1098 bullets at the same time.
