Are all winners based on being tracked earlier or is it based on the drawing for specific players? Because I did 2 separate achievements provided at the beginning of the contest and not win >: (

Same here. 7Kill game on M10 plus some  5 kill games on Saturday, but nothing.

Well to be honest I wish they were a bit more transparent on their "lottery system". Till now never ever got anything for free from WG. I better go now and get my Tin Foil Hat ready for next week if it just happens that I don't get anything.

Alright. Here is how the winners were chosen:

 

The requirements for each week were the parameters for a data pull from HQ. (Russia) We would provide what data we wanted to pull and the time duration we wanted the data from. So for this last week it was "Give us a list of all of the players who earned any of the Epic Medals, except Fadin's Medal, from July 24th 04:00 PT (07:00 PT) to July 26th 04:00 PT (07:00 ET)." This came to us in a spreadsheet form. Across the top it listed in each column what medals they tracked and in the first column were entries that looked like this:

 

1234567890;"0";"0";"0";"1";"0";"0";"0";"0";"1";"0";"2";"0"

 

This displayed a number we associate with the account to identify it and then the number of each Epic Medal earned. Using a function of Excel, I sorted out the numbers into the proper columns, mainly so I would select the special ID # and copy and paste the winners. From here added another column and used the function "=RANDBETWEEN(1,X)", where X = the approximate number of entries, to give each person a random number. So if there were 124 people in the list I could give them a number between 1 and 150. 

 

Next I would copy those values and paste them in the column next to that one and paste them as value rather than equations so they would not change when I sorted the sheet. From there I did a sort by lowest to highest from those random numbers. Since there were 100 winners, I chose the first and last 50 people after I had sorted by those random numbers.

 

That is how the winners were chosen randomly.

 

Now this is not the method that is always used when doing lottery things, but all of the random selections are similar in fairness.

 

I had been seeing a bit of concern on the whole "lottery is unfair" deal so I thought I'd answer this question to help give a bit of clarity into the process and hopefully put some concerns to rest.

Thanks for the update and visibility CC_Sly. I don't know why anyone would question the fairness of your lottery system. Though one sentiment I think has been drifting about is that the lottery system is not preferred by most players (please correct me if I'm wrong). There is something about gaining that elusive achievement after some hard work and not knowing if it is actually "worth" it.

 

Either way, thanks again for the contest and for consistently putting them on. It adds some great fun and excitement to the community. Your efforts are appreciated!

The lottery system allows for relatively easy tasks for entry. Yes, it means your chances of winning are not great but it is appropriate for this type of fun little contest.

I wish the Wargaming API would have a history such that I could query this information once. Currently if we want this information our only choice is to store the results of a query run over time and compare the results. Rather sucks for something databases are designed for.

 

A little lodash helps force the data the way you want it.

well, I didnt win, wish i could have got at least SOMETHING for getting my pools medal within the scheduled time. But im not complaining congrats to the winners.
