85mm is always better. The derp sucks because
If your stupid enough to use the derp, by all means go ahead. Just don't be in my team
Tier 6 KV-2 , the king of derp ... load any thing other then HE.... you are the true potato ...
Tier 7 SU-152 , HE/HEAT , load few AP for low tier ....
Tier 8 ISU-152 , use Derp before you Unlock the BL-10 ....
I sometimes drive Warships too.
The 85 mm cannon is the superior option on account of its better aim stats and rate of fire, and general reliability in damage when you consider the nature of the tank that you're driving.
Taking from CptCheez's gun spreadsheet (Cpt, you are awesome for making this):
122 mm U-11 | 4.52 | 337 | 562 | 1523 | 2540 | 2032 | 46 | 76 | 61 | 0.57 | 2.9 |
85 mm D5T-85BM | 7.25 | 150 | 250 | 1088 | 1813 | 1450 | 108 | 180 | 144 | 0.37 | 2.3 |
The DPM on the U-11 might seem better in the damage-dealing department, but I'd be careful in believing that number, since it's assuming that every round you fire penetrates fully and actually hits the target. In the context of an actual match, you will NEVER be able to pull that off.
The 85 mm has noticeably better aim time and dispersion. On a mobile platform like the T-34-85, good accuracy stats are very valuable, since you do NOT want to let yourself be exposed for too long to take your shots, and making shots on the move will be fairly common (or at the very least, you will be making more hasty shots where you stop for only a brief moment before firing and moving again). Not to mention, you will also get much more reliable damage output since the 85 mm gun is far less likely to miss a shot. The U-11's dispersion value is absolutely atrocious. It wouldn't hit the broad side of a barn from inside of said barn.
In short, the U-11 is far too dependent on random elements to deal damage that I cannot seriously suggest it. Run with the 85 mm for reliability's sake, as the U-11 will struggle to match the 85 mm's damage output under any practical circumstances, even if you were to spam HEAT.
