Greeting Tankers!

We wanted to try something new, we wanted to give people a say in what kind of contest we would run! We figured that you are the ones who are going to be participating and doing the actual contest, why not give you a say in what you will participating in!

The basic format will be a two week length. The first week will be voting to determine  all of the factors of what we should run as the contest and the second week will be the actual contest based on the results of the votes!

The first part of the poll will be 8/17 Monday - 8/19 Wednesday (Noon PST), the second part of the poll will be up 8/19 Wednesday (2PM PST) -  8/21 Friday.  From there the contest will be created and drafted up for posting by 8/24 Noon Monday.

Please vote in the poll above to help determine what contest will be run next week! It is up to you!

** - Please note that this is only a valid option for the "Earn a specific Medal" type of contest. If "Earn a specific Medal" is not selected, this option will not be considered and the next most voted option will be chosen

First to vote! I think this is a great way to come up with contests, using the community imput. Can't wait to see the final "product".

One suggestion, I think there should be the same kind of poll, just with the contest being offline, like the "Shadow Tank" one in the future.

Creative contests would bring FAR too many variables to have a "majority " deal. The voting process would take a month for a 2 week contest.

Anything that has to do with "...get the most over a number of battles..." pretty much favors people that can play the game whenever they want.  I have a job and a family.  When those contests come out, I don't even attempt them.

"Highest of stuff" is interesting, and something to shoot for, even if it favors the unicums.  (Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.)

I was hoping for more "out of the box" challenges from you guys, actually.

I prefer premium tanks/gold to anything else, and for a reward I think it's nice when everyone gets it, even in a lower amount.  I prefer tanks more-so then gold.

Like the Churhill III paper tank thing was really cool.  (And getting a tank from something was also really cool.)

The "Earn a Walter-Radley (or is it Radley-Walter) was nice also because if you did it, you got something.  (or am I thinking of a different event that I got gold in?)

I'm less then impressed with the lottery system after fulfilling the requirements.  It feels too random even after you do a difficult challenge.  Maybe that's just me?

Wargaming server will serving you kindly

I like this idea!!

Here's my two cents.

Contests based on games played / games won is not a good idea, this caters to the players who can dedicate non stop time to the game, and that is kind of against what blitz is all about imo.

Contests that are "The first xx players to submit a Screenshot of x medal win again are frustrating, because unless you are on the forums non stop it is  really difficult to participate.

A while back there was a Easy 8 challenge where the top 100 damage games all got a prize, and it was wildly popular!  i would love to see more contests of this type!

The don't vote for that option! That is the beauty of these sorts of things.

"Highest of stuff" is interesting, and something to shoot for, even if it favors the unicums.  (Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.)

Again, up to you what you put your vote towards, if you'd like that one - got for it!

I was hoping for more "out of the box" challenges from you guys, actually.

The issue with more "Out of the box" stuff with voting, is that there are far too many options. This is a test run of a simple system, if people like and it works, we can talk about making it more complex or including some different types of contests. I;d rather let you guys piece together one than come up with a list and then say "Ok choose one."

I prefer premium tanks/gold to anything else, and for a reward I think it's nice when everyone gets it, even in a lower amount.  I prefer tanks more-so then gold.

Interesting, tanks are much harder to get the green light to give away though.

Like the Churhill III paper tank thing was really cool.  (And getting a tank from something was also really cool.)

That was one of our most successful Offline contests. (It was also one of the most expensive in terms of prizing)

The "Earn a Walter-Radley (or is it Radley-Walter) was nice also because if you did it, you got something.  (or am I thinking of a different event that I got gold in?)

No that is correct - it was earn the medal and get the gold. That is totally an option for this contest as well!

I'm less then impressed with the lottery system after fulfilling the requirements.  It feels too random even after you do a difficult challenge.  Maybe that's just me?

A lottery system is supposed to be random, I am unsure as to what I could do to fix this as unless I gave a "Do X Y or Z and get an entry for each" it would still be a random deal. However multiple entries are VERY difficult to track accurately without a huge time investment.

Answers are in bold italic.

Yes I agree^ the radley Walters contest was fun. It encouraged people to do well (also encouraged lots of kill stealing...)

1) Contests based on number of battles are not particularly interesting because they are not skill based and do not earn any respect for the winners. Many people that participate do it not only for the main prize. Getting most xp/dmg in a battle is an achievement by itself and people are willing to show off even for free; here is a hint for you: http://wotbstars.com/hall.php?lng=eng&geo=NA

2) If prizes are only for the top 10 or less many people will quit right away--that's effectively a contest for the top 100 players. Random or all is good for bringing people to the forum but there is no much of a contest. Top 100 is a sweet spot because it feels like a real contest for all the player base.

Please do more skill based contests and have them more often. I enjoy actually playing the game. I didn't download the app to practice poetry, origami, technical/creative writing skills or shadow puppetry.

Also what ever happened to the community combat events? WG finally "creates" a format that is successful and suddenly the events stop.

Also, no more lottery/raffle drawings. They are too random with too many contestants. 50 people? Sure. But when you involve the whole blitz community that's like what? 5,000 people easy. There's a very little chance to win.

Solid no to the most battles, most medals of a kind etc as it simply favors volume.  Recall the issues with top 100 xp etc ...  so there have to be assurances that it will be monitored, and then certainly must have more than just five or ten winners. Even the one where people had to get a certain medal for gold bonus were gamed with people sharing accounts, with individuals marathon-ing their buddies tanks.

Anything that is "do xyz difficult thing" to qualify and then WG's computer randomly picks 5 winners or the top 10 ... nope, not going to fight for that. At least with missions you know what you need to achieve and what the reward is. Sure, we all don't think favorable of participation medal, but this wouldn't just be participation. It would be doing thing x, which means only some will qualify for that ... and then just a handful of random winners seems way too few.

Personally, I really would prefer more creative type stuff.

But there again. Reward people. For the shadow tank contest, I had two great but far more involved and complex ideas than the box+can+pen sample, so ... there was this major motivational issue of actually making it work and pulling it off, due to the fact that there were only going to be five winners. With 25-50 winners, I'd have done it. Guaranteed if it had been like the paper tank contest. But with just five winners vs  completing my idea, let alone two in case one wasn't quite right ... meh.

Very cool of you (and WG) to ask for feedback CC_Sly. I'm in the group with top single performance, non-lottery winners. And very patiently waiting for the next Blitz Madness this fall (hint, hint...).

I actually pretty much liked the Madness contest--I think it would be cool to repeat it. Just automate certain parts and make it more "live" so we could see in real time how tanks are doing and who is winning because that wait was just impossible to endure )))

Sly,

I beg you, please don't make another contest that is influenced by the number of battles played during the contest. Make it fair, so that adults who have responsibilities can hop on, and if they have an awesome game, stand a chance to win an award. Contests that are based on achievements that can be influenced simply by playing more battles isn't really fair to the people who keep the world running, and only benefit the slacker living in his parents basement who can play all day long. We professionals like to compete too, but can't forsake our responsibilities to our careers and family for a weekend long jaunt on blitz. Thank you for your time.
