So let's talk mods.

We have decided to follow the WoT PC example and allow certain mods while prohibiting others. Some mods are there to enhance the gameplay experience. Something like sound mods or a new sixth sense icon can add a new dimension and layer of fun to the game. We are striving to create a fun and fair environment where players can enjoy Blitz.

Allowed Mods:

  • Mods that give no distinct gameplay advantage.
    • Sound Mods
    • Custom Camo
    • Custom UI Elements
      • Custom Reticle
      • Colorblind Support Mods

Prohibited Mods:

  • Mods that give a distinct gameplay advantage.
    • Module Hit Skin Mods

That is not a very big list. How do I differentiate between the 2 kinds of mods?

Well - ask yourself the following question: If 2 people who have never played Blitz before, and are of equal skill level, play a 1v1 match in the same tank; if one person has the mod in question and the other doesn't, will it give an advantage to the person using the mod?

If the answer to that question is yes, then it is a prohibited mod. If you have any questions or are not sure if a mod is allowed or not - please PM either NikoPower or myself. We will be happy to take a look and give you an answer!

Thank you for your patience and understanding. See you on the battlefield!

Hit Skin Fanboys, I summon you!

Oh - and by the by.  "Proudly awaiting the first line of French and American autoloaders" (from your sig), makes no sense whatsoever.

Did you make the autoloaders?
No.
Did you make the French or Americans?
Unlikely.

So - it would be incorrect to say you are "proudly awaiting".  "Eagerly awaiting" - or "*** my pants in anticipation" would be far better syntax.

Thanks for posting this.  So it looks like WG has an official position now.

OK sorry, I'm a noob with this stuff.  How does one go about getting one of these mods like a camo mod?  Does your IOS device need to be jailbroken to do this?  I've seen them on an occasional video, but that's about all I know...

Jailbreaking an iOS device is generally required.

After that, it's a matter of replacing files within the game's program files.

Any modification to the client will require that you jailbreak your device. When you do this and install any mod, you forfeit your right to official support from Wargaming as you have modified the client. If  you are having an issue - the answer will be "uninstall your mods and see if that fixes the problem."

Many of them can be installed very easily through Cydia, you just have to have the right repo added to get them.  Replacing the files manually is a tremendous pain, but Cydia makes it easy.  And yes, on iOS, you would need to be jailbroken for this.

Aside from that, +1 to Wargaming for coming to a swift decision on this.  Thanks Sly!

THANK YOU!  I don't mind the appearance mods, but I want to know it's a level playing field. Thank you so much for addressing this issue. IMHO, the staff of WG is tops!

Exactly.  While WG has a policy against hitskin mods, they need to implement the technology to prevent modification of game files altogether.  Because they're still going to be used, even if WG says 'No dice' to hitskin mods.

I only know how to install mods on PC games. Never tried it with iOS, nor do I ever intend to.

Thanks for the info, though. I always did wonder how people installed mods on iOS. PC mods are just a matter of extracting .rar files then dragging them to the appropriate folders. :P

And yes, finding a way to prevent the use of these mods would be the ultimate end to such an issue.

Sly: Question about this one, since there are a few you didn't mention that I've been curious about.  I would assume both fall under the "Custom UI Elements" banner, but figured I'd ask before installing anything.

1) Numerical reload timer.  There is a mod that will display a countdown timer for your next round's reload.  It's basically just a numerical version of the progress circle around the Fire button and will actively count down while you reload.  Looks like this:

Allowed or no?

2) Mod that changes the way tank icons are displayed in the team lists.  There are 2 different mods that display the tanks in the upper right/left corner lists differently (blue for TDs, red for mediums, etc.).  Examples of each:

Allowed or no?
