There's been lots of threads and posts about the impact of the gun laying drive (GLD), vents, and vertical stabilizer and their impact on aim time.  A lot of talk, but not a lot of metrics.  This came up in Triarii's Kakoa chat and I remembered that SkittlesOfSteel (now MeowsExternally) posted a helpful chart from the PC game that puts numbers to the discussion; it was halfway down the page but needs front and center placement.

Bottom line - if you can get a Vstab - that's your first choice.  And get your gun rammer - so that's vstab and rammer.  So now for the third piece, will it be gun laying drive or vents?  Based on the graph below, vents.  Because vents helps all crew skills - not just aiming.

So if your tank can mount a vstab - get vstab, rammer and vents

If your tank can't mount a vstab - get GLD, rammer and vents

So for aim time, the killer combo is vstab and vents.

Awesome graph! Makes it all very easy to understand.

I only use vents up to 90% crew(+food) on my mediums. At 90%, I drop vents in favor of optics. At 100%, I drop food for adrenalin, as I'd rather have that extra shell when I really need it. For heavies, I tend to keep the vents. For TDs, I switch them out for binocs.

Every tank you have, should have Vents and Rammer. Best combo ever.

Great third OPTION

Binocs for spotting

GLD or Vert. Stab for fast mediums

Heck I keep vents even when I get to 100%.  Like the extra skill boost all round... 105% skill?  You bet.

I always go for vents, rammers, and stabilizers when possible

Other than those, my secondays would be the laying drive and if really needed, wet ammo

The point here is that vents and vstab are the best all round equipment combo for aim time - good for heavies that don't have to worry about ammo racks.  For Russian mediums, you'll need wet ammo, so wet ammo + vstab and rammer would be the way to go there.

Hmmm... very intersting. This means nobody should ever use a gun laying drive basically. You are better off with vents to combine with VStab. Vents is just a tiny bit behind GLD but buffs everything else - including camo, view range, and reload.

I have been running Rammer/VStab/GLD in my Russian heavies to combat the tough gun handling... now I gotta grind a few million credits to swap the GLD for vents! So yeah... thank. :great:

GLD Is useful on tanks that cannot mount a v stabiliser.

What is this? I thought the best equipment for a medium was Spall liner, toolbox and camo net???

I politely disagree.  If you're getting ammo racked that often you are over exposing.  I've never run a wet ammo rack in any of my Russian mediums.  I've been racked twice, maybe three times in my T44 when I showed a tank with a big gun my side, and a time or two in my T-34-85 which includes both my Victory and the standard.

Don't over extend, keep moving, and keep your Rack Covered, and you can use equipment that will help you in every battle.  I think you will see more benefit from that then a wet ammo rack.

No thanks necessary.  I am a bit disappointed that I needed to type out keep your Rack Covered, as it usually goes against my personal philosophy, but in the case of tanks it's an exception well made.
