When I snipe people at long range I sometimes see the enemy tank that I am shooting floating. I take a shot and it hits the invisible terrain between us. Anyone else experience this?

Yeah. Probably because some of the terrain hasn't rendered yet, so you must get closer to see it.
Groovy.

That's why you wait until the reticule turns green, aiming at the tank.

Ok, a topic I know a lot about. This is actually a combination of two things. 1. as others have said the terrain is to far away to be rendered. 2. The tank might actually not be there. The WOT client does checks on all the tanks on the map and how far they are from you determines how often the game updates their location. It only ends up running checks on tanks 400m away from you about once every second or two which makes it really hard to hit a tank at long range in blitz. This is done to keep the lag down because if the game ran checks on every tank 30 times a second it would cause the fps to be something like 0.
