I think the ID10T is reliable with good RoF (for a heavy) and less dispersion but the 122mm has more fear factor, and when I'm low tier, tier 9s hesitate after being blasted in the face with the 400 alpha. So which gun should I use on the KV3 ?

I personally used the 100mm.  Best accuracy, aim time, and DPM.

Tier VII - KV-3
Gun ROF Low Dmg High Dmg   Low DPM High DPM Average DPM   Low Pen High Pen Average Pen   Dispersion Aiming Time
85 mm F-30 9.22 150 250   1383 2305 1844   90 150 120   0.42 3.4
85 mm S-31 9.22 150 250   1383 2305 1844   89 149 119   0.42 3.4
107 mm ZiS-6 5.47 240 400   1313 2188 1750   125 209 167   0.45 3.4
122 mm D-2-5T 3.53 300 500   1059 1765 1412   131 219 175   0.46 3.4
100 mm D10T 6.67 210 350   1401 2335 1868   131 219 175   0.42 2.9
122 mm D-25T 4.00 300 500   1200 2000 1600   131 219 175   0.46 3.4

122mm. You should have a wall between yourself and the enemy and sidescrape like hell so peek a boom with 400 alpha is the way to go. You smack somebody twice for 800hp and they will respect you, unlike with the 100mm where you poke them for 220 hp a piece and they will simply charge you and you're done.

Is or kv3 without d25 gets no respect from me! I can work around a few dings here or there but like said already 800 in 2 shots can't afford that

Interesting! I use the 122mm gun because of it's high alpha damage and decent rate of fire, but I'll give the 100mm gun a try and see how I go.

After the nerf on the 122mm I ran each for a 10-15 game run just to see how they each 'felt'. On average I was getting more damage per game with the 100mm. Small sample size but for me it was enough to see that the nerf impacted the performance enough to make the 100mm the gun that works for my playstyle in the tank.

It's just easier to get more damage on target with the 100mm.

There is a whole nother thread on this topic that was produced recently. I am a firm believer in the 100mm. It will increase your flexibility and survivability. Aim time on the 122 is glacial and accuracy is suspect. There are a lot of fast peekaboomers at tier 7 that I just could not hit, ever, with the 122. Also, the 100 does a much better job defending against CODs and/or multiple attackers.

I already said "Nope" to the Russian heavies for a while. Not that they are bad, but after attempting to use the 122mm D-2-5T on the KV-3, I am out. Terrible accuracy and RoF, and it seems to want to hit the most thickly armored parts of a tank, even if you aim for the lower glacis.

With an 0.46 accuracy, that's not entirely unexpected... And another reason why I used the 100 mm. :)

Have wondered this also. i use the 122 for the 400 avg damage. Interested in more opinions. The ones so far both make a good point for each gun. Will also search for the other post. Thanks for mentioning this Christian. Is the DPM chart a sticky somewhere. That holds a lot of info Capt. Thanks for posting.

It sure is, in the General Discussion forum.  Here's the thread:

I used the 122mm gun. Granted I was still a noob back when I played the KV-3 and it has been nerfed since I last played it so I don't really know what gun I would use anymore.

I have gone back and forth between tanks comparing different guns from different tanks in the garage.  That sheet is sweet. Makes it a lot easier. Thanks again

My KV-3 sits at 72% after 154 games, well above my average win rate. Almost all of those games were played with the 100mm. It is a VERY effective tank. My KV-4, which I am grinding now, is even higher at 74%. You are missing out by saying "Nope" to some seriously OP machinery.

Strangely, I really liked the very same 122 on the KV-4, and only moved up to the 107 zis-24 because the 122 had pen issues at tier ten, even with apcr. Honestly, the 122 was more fun to use, but I have to admit that the 107 is more effective.

The 100 mm is the superior choice :)

I laugh when I see someone with the 122 now, I can hit them twice for ~600, while they only hit me for ~400, and so on. DPM,Accuracy, and more cost efficient is what sells it for me :)

I just switched to the 100mm and I really like the faster reload time. I caught an is off guard trying to rush me before he figured out I didn't have the slow reload. It didn't go well for him.

I used the 122 before the nerf, but post nerf I think the 100 is better. It's still a solid tank, just not the OP beast it once was.
