I was so looking forward to the IS, free xped the second turret so I could mount the kv1s 122mm cannon, so other than that it's stock, I have had NO LUCK with this tank my we is 0% I can't catch a break with it, I am taking a break from it for now, and grinding something else bit while I do that I would love advise on what to do with the IS, your experiences,  anything.

Having that problem with my Cromwell. It took me five losses just to win a game...and the worst part is I did well, I already got an ACE Pool's game.

The 122 got hit with the world's largest nurf batt in 1.8.  Play with the D10T and be OP.

IS is still a very good tank, even post nerf, however, it does require a certain play style.  As mentioned above, its armor is not all that great for a tier 7 heavy.  Key is to not expose yourself unless you are preparing to shoot.  You can get away with taking hits from some tier 5 and 6 tanks, but avoid giving others an easy shot.  Angle if you must be exposed.

Use the 100mm gun. It makes a world of difference. The 122 got nerfed and that reload zzzzzzzzzz. Use the 100mm on the KV3 too if you go down that line.

This tank has me despondent.  Can't make any real XP headway towards IS-3, even with multiple kills per game.  Losing money on almost every play.  Went to the 122 gun, get put in all tier 8 & 9 games.  Works ok from back line supporting heavies with big single shots, but once spotted I'm dead before reload.  77k XP seems like a fantasy when I can't clear more than 1k/game...

IS is a helluva tank. Play cautiously and push but not too hard. Stay protected -- don't take unnecessary hits. Once you get the hang of it, you should dominate peer tier battles.

I still play IS with the top 122mm gun and I don't feel it noticeable different after the nerf. Same great tank - can easily carry Tier 7.

I still love my IS, but hot damn they nerfed the 122 into the ground. Why oh why :(

That sucks to hear Mr Mike,   You were so looking forward to it too!   I am a few weeks away from jumping up to the T43.   I will be better equipped to assist u with firepower once I grind out the tier 7 gun on the T-34-85.  I could have it in one night if the teams were better as of late.   I'm still game to run as is and stick to your side.  U know where to find me

Recently had this run on my IS (still with Top 122mm gun). Would have been a 7 kill if I didn't hit Crusader's tracks. IS at its finest, quick, decently armored and with great alpha - with my platoon mate KV-13, we just drove around the Lost Temple map and wiped out the reds (and the other team mates were good too). The 122mm of IS and quick firing KV-13 worked just great.

IS is still a great tank of Tier 7, still OP, just not as much as before.

I asked this regarding the KV-3 a while ago. I humbly agree in using the 100mm. The dpm is so much better. It's not only the reload rate that kills you; the aim time is horrible on the 122mm as well. Put those two together, and it makes things awfully tough.

For the KV-1S, I used the 122mm. I just don't see a good alternative like you have with the KV-3. I feel the same way with the IS

I have one, played it a few games and got the same feeling as the op. I mothballed it and going down the kv line, which had treated me better. Once I get through that line I might jump back on it and give it a go. I find it takes about 30 battles or so before I get a good feel for the tank and whether I like it or not. I wish u luck and give it 50 games. You should know by then if you want to keep it

I switched to the D10T 100mm gun per advice here. Big improvement.  If I play as a "short flank" to a tier 8/9 team mate I can do huge damage with turret side shots- 650+ hp regularly.  Cycle time is decent again.  Finally making some headway towards the IS-3 with 1200+xp/30k+ credit games again.  Thanks for the help!

Done well with is. I always like the big gun over small.

Always had too, but changed to the smaller 88 on my JPanther and what a difference.  I didn't know what they were talking about here, until I went back and realized I have never used that 100mm gun lol.

Will be interesting what will be the difference and what the 100mm looks like.  There's no mistaking the big gun and when I see one from the other side, I know I have roughly 15 seconds to do some damage and will use it!  The small 85 mm gun  is a pea shooter and gets no respect. The other day though I ran into an IS-3 I thought had the peashooter and got nailed.  I had thought he got lucky, but now...

Frankly went with the 120 mm because I have been wrecked so many times with it that I wanted one of my own.  With the weak armor the fewer times I need to show myself the better off I am.  I'll have to give that other one a try.

I'm grinding this currently. I have a strong win rate right now with the 100, and I'm thinking that I'll hold off jumping to the 122 for a bit. Coming from lots of time in meds I just can't see sacrificing so much reload time - it'll drive me nuts.

I would probably think differently if I platooned more often, but without having a team mate I can rely on to cover me that 122 will make me a sitting duck. (either that or i'll nod off between shots and miss everything)

Slow and steady is the only way to play this and the KV-1S,

Creep up, shoot and back away to reload. Rinse, Repeat.

Always better to team up with a fast ROF medium to keep bad guys distracted.
