I love how WG cherry-picks from our comments in order to promote the -59.

I enjoy playing the -59, but it's not strong enough to allow a player of my skill level to consistently win with. After 120-ish games, I'm struggling to maintain a 58% win rate with it. I could increase that to maybe 62% if I was more liberal with APCR, but APCR really kills off the credit earning potential...I'd rather play my T-54 if I'm going to earn less than 20k credits in a battle.

It is, however, the most fun I've had grinding credits...which has really been getting old.

Well, I do think its harder to drive than the IS-6 or KV-5. My guess is that average players (47%-50%) will really struggle in it. But... even though 58% might be a bit lower than than your recent win rate, its within the margin of error of your T-44 and T-54 win rate.

The 59 requires a different mindset than the T54.  Even though they look similar, they are played differently.  It plays more like a T44, but not as good.

--Many make the mistake of brawling with other mediums.  You can bounce shots from its hull, but not reliably.

--The turret is pretty good, but you need to keep moving.

--The extra gun depression (over the T54) is very nice.  I've found that this can really create new spots to hull down.

--The performance is a bit sluggish--- You just can't get to the same spots fast enough.

--The gun is good... requires prammo at times, but most premium tanks with preferential matchmaking will as well.

--The ROF is my biggest problem with the tank.  You really need to have some cover for reloads.

Is it worth spending money for the tank?  Yes

Is it an easy tank to dominate in? No

Would I buy it again?  Absolutley

Yes, but most of my t-44/t-54 games were back when I was a 50% overall player new to mediums...grinding through all the modules.  If I started fresh today with a t-54, I suspect I'd have a 65% or slightly better win rate with it.

I'm not a skilled tanker by any means, but I struggle with this tank most battles. I will keep trying as it is a higher tier medium premium and that makes it almost worth the price. Actually packaged with the perks, it is worth it, but some people can't afford the full cost all at one time. Thanks Wargaming for this opportunity and thanks to my wife for the holiday present.

Play for fun

Grinding: T110E5, T-54, Churchill I,  T-44, IS-3, M103

Premiums: Pz.38 H, Valentine II, Excelsior , T34, IS-6

"If it were $25..."

Seen this in the comments a lot and it's evident that people aren't aware that it is effectively $25, if you buy the larger bundle that includes the 15000 gold with it, since if you reduce the equivalent cost of that gold, it basically works out to around $25 for the tank itself.

BTW I have not bought the tank myself yet but I'm still seriously considering it. It really comes down to does it suit my play style.

what people are saying is is that if they sold it as just the tank for $25 and had a bundle it may be worth it but the cost of $50 just to get a sub par tank is not worth it at all.

Was it worth the hype? I dunno. I honestly didn't get myself too hyped about it myself. My point of view on this tank was "It's a Tier VIII premium medium that actually moves faster than a heavy."

Was it worth it? Only if you wanted the gold along with it.

Is it a decent tank? I'd argue yes. The DPM's a bit disappointing, but its armor works well enough and the mobility isn't too bad.

Is it a nice change of pace for credit-grinding purposes? Yes.

Marketing.

A vast majority of the player base (the people who don't visit the forums) are not going to be aware of the cherry-picking. They're just hearing stuff about how this tank is good from players who are supposedly good enough to have attracted attention from the company itself.

No, sounds like he wants just the tank for that price, hence "if they sold it as just the tank for $25".

no im saying people want a bundle at $25 that is JUST the tank and then a second bundle with goodies for aditional money, Most agree that the type is WAY overpriced for what you get unless you also need/want the gold and prem time.

A $50 buyin...at christmas no less is just too much for most, did i buy it? Yea but if i hadnt wanted the gold and also the type i likely woulda held off.

Ok, I understand where you're coming from. So hopefully you can understand where I'm coming from when I say the tank is not overpriced IF (and only IF) you get it with the larger gold bundle, since the tank portion price wise only works out to about $25 of the total bundle price. Let me illustrate what I mean below.

In Canada, the larger Type 59 bundle is $79. The 15000 gold bundled with it is close in value to a $58 16000 gold bundle. Deduct the $58 worth of gold from the $79 Type 59 bundle and the tank is effectively costing you $21 (give or take a few dollars for the 1000 gold difference). So with the larger bundle, the cost of the tank itself is only about $25.

But of course it's only worth it if you want the gold, otherwise you're paying an additional $58 for a $25 tank. But that said though, it's not like the gold is going to be wasted or anything.

oh i agree its a good deal if you want gold too, that said however my point was more the reason people are so pissed is the high bar to entry, as you can tell from this post and the fact they removed the link to this thread as soon as negitives started popping up AND if you consider the numbers on wotbstars this is the worst selling prem tank ever.

Its not a great tank and is infact worse then stock tech tree tanks, makes less credits then other premiums and is overall very weak in soft stats, the $50 entry level price makes it not worth the money when for the same price you can get an is6 or t34 which both play better and make more credits and still have more gold left over, the only good point to the type is its a t8 mediun that makes credits, hell even the victory makes more credits on average.

They really pulled an EA on themselves...

1. Take a great and valued product.

2. Turn it into complete s***t

3. Sell at a higher price.

Only difference is that they did this to themselves.

I ended up buying one anyways, because of disposable income and it's my hobby to collect. But anyone outside of that niche reason, SHOULD NOT BUY IT. There are other consistent and stronger premium tanks

that do a better job at farming credits which is the main and only benefit of getting a premium tank.

--------------

But...

1) It is fun

2) Doesn't get completely destroyed... but yeah...

3) It's a $50 dollar garage spot assuming worst cast scenario

Ended up buying the IS-6 over this. Great tank, good armor, and decent money making.

From the looks of comments, the Type 59 is very conflicted. Usually that is bad.

Line in Progress: Russian Heavy

MS-1 -> T-26 -> T-46 -> T-28 -> KV-1 -> KV-1S

Premium Tanks:

IS-6

I've played around 40 battles in Tier 7 this weekend. Each game I was playing against Tier 8 there was at least one Type 59. Average tanker: Player_xxxxxx with 10 days old account.

Its totally not worth it. Get a T34 for half the cost and print more credits.

If you want a tank with prefered match making, the IS6 is a much better choice.

Dont be a sheep in a Type 59, be a wolf in a T34.

I despise my T34.  It does not fit my playstyle.  I rock forward in my chair when I'm driving it trying to get it to go faster.

I would much rather a Hype 59 then a T34.

I personally think the tank is just fine, along with the price.  It's not godly, but that's okay.  It's not a steal (like the AC-1), but that's okay.  The tank plus the gold puts it right in the window for other tier 8 tanks on sale.

There's a surprisingly large number of Type players who don't know what they're doing with it.

Not that I necessarily mind. Makes my IS-3 grind a bit easier, and makes my credit grinding a bit easier as well. :teethhappy:
