Occasionally, my internet/battery drops while loading a battle. Will I be punished? :(

You definitely should, if it happens often enough.:justwait:

I would like to note that some devices have serious problems when trying to reload the game. Leaving them AFK for the whole game.

1) Buy new device

or

2) Don't play the game

or

3) Continue playing and get banned, if you are deemed to be a serial AFKer.

I have occasionally gone AFK due to clicking through low battery warnings in the heat of battle and then forgetting to do anything about it afterwards, poor connection to the charger, and occasionally games where the game crashes instead of loading the map and a flanker kills me before I get back in the battle. But for every battle where I fail to move or fire before being destroyed I probably have 500-1000 games where I was active for the full game.

But while I don't imagine they will want to release the precise numbers at which people will start getting permabans I imagine it would be multiple percents of battles completely  missed along with failure to improve from previous warnings. If the first pass finds people over 10% total afk though I say no mercy on those accounts.

Not to be mean to those players but if you are having internet issues or device issues that's on them and it's their fault for playing the game or not doing anything to resolve it. That's the way I see it, meaning no offense to them.

Fine. But why not make it easier to report horrible people who hurl hate speech in game? I just tried to file a complaint as I have in the past, but the process is not smooth. Please tell me I don't have to resize screenshots just to get them to support. I won't tolerate hate speech in game, and will do everything in my power to discourage it. But you have to at least make it so that it's not a huge undertaking on my side.

First off, i'm just joshin with ya but you are using your battery as an excuse why you would go afk. We all have gone afk for one reason or another. They are not looking at you if it doesn't happen too often but if the shoe fits...

I understand some folks have concerns about being caught up with the ones that are the worst offenders. Rule of thumb, if you are not ACTIVELY out to ruin people's games by going AFK then you will be ok. As I mentioned earlier, the system will evolve as we receive more data and observations from the community that things are getting better. The profile will likely evolve over time.

in plan English if I'm not mistaken, if you constantly afk to the point your got to tier 10 with a less then 100 average damage due to so many afks your boned and ratbat will take a banhammer to your crotch, If you drop service, you battery dies, your child bites the dog ect ect a few times a day your going to be fine, if you have these problems a LOT like half your battles you will get a wrist slap and told to knock it off.

I agree. There's a world of difference between internet dropping or game crashing or axe murderer kicking down my front door, versus the worst of the worst of the serial AFKs.

I'm confident that the stats that WG has will allow them to pinpoint the worst offenders.

Thank you!

I find it hilarious how some people are convinced there is no excuse for going AFK. I can only assume most are still kids who don't comprehend that you can get phone calls, or someone knocks on the door or the girlfriend or the dog needs attention or one of the million other things that are more important in life than a game on the Internet.

I suspect we won't see much difference in the game with the new afk rules. Certainly it will remove a fair number of serial offenders who do it intentionally but I think the vast majority of those who go afk are people who just had real life interrupt whilst waiting for the game to load. There are thousands of players out there, all of whom go afk sometimes for whatever reason, some more than others, so there will always be a fair number out there even with a crack down on those who do it for fun.

I believe there will be a difference.  Because if I am peeved about an AFK teammate, I'll look up their stats afterwards.

If I see a normal looking set of stats, I'll figure ok, life happens, no prob. And I move on, unpeeved.

If I see a set of stats where it is blatant that this player just goes AFK grinding all the time, I get annoyed at this selfish player, and annoyed that WG hasn't done anything about this.

With this new system in place, I hope to experience less of scenario #2.

Well I'm happy that WG is taking action against serial AFKers. If they log in but don't play then why have the game? If it's solely connection issues then fix it. If it's not fixable then delete the game and stop ruining it for the people who want to play

I just wanted to update the community on what we're going to be doing about the serial AFK issue. As I mentioned in my last producer post we wanted to handle this systematically so we can better take action against serious offenders. Part of this process is building a profile of the serial-AFK player and right now I have the first half of the data and we will be reconciling this with another batch of stats. By reviewing the two results from different time periods we can be more confident that the players we identify as fitting the profile will receive appropriate action. These actions will range from a 3 day ban to a perma ban.

This will be a living process as we continue to refine the AFK profile. There may be offenders that fall through the dragnet so if you see something say something (in the form of a support ticket)

Amen. Keep this up and someday you'll be President_Ratbat.
