In a brief scan of the Soviet vehicle bay area, I noticed a thread from last July asking which of the above tanks was better. The poll was a 50/50 tie. Now that the 140 has been around for a while, what do you guys now think is better of the two?

I'm interested in the answer. I'd also like confirmation/rebuttal that the 62A is better for the meh player that I am as it has the higher floor/lower ceiling, whereas the 140 requires more skill to make sing properly.

The T-62A is so much better than the Obj 140.  I have over 1k battles in each.  T-62A's turret is much better than the Obj 140.  The 62 also has better ground resistance and better turret armor.  Its turret traverse speed and tracks traverse both trumps the 140s

I like tanks with good turrets. T-62a has a turret that is impenetrable. It is pretty much like the turret on the IS-7.

Here are the pros and cons of T-62A compared to Obj. 140

Pros:

Better Traverse and Turret Traverse speed

Better Terrain Resistence meaning there is a less chance this tank will damage its tracks than the 140

Stronger Turret Armor by a lot compared to Obj. 140 (Believe me..... It's by a lot)

Better dispersion

More HP

Cons:

Lower top speed

Worser gun depression

Worse Hull armor than 140

Bigger

A lot of people will say to get 140 because you can just bounce shots by moving, the thing is, you won't always remember to. And also, what if you track is damaged? The 140 turret armor is pretty useless.

I like HESHing the top of Obj 140 turrets. I've seen someone HESH the cupola and ammo rack an obj. 140

Obj 140 is better because it has good hull armor, in addition to a strong turret. The turret may have a 30 mm top and 2 cupolas, but for the skilled player wiggling them and throwing off enemy aim (especially the auto-Aimers) should be no problem. The Obj 140 has better accuracy FIRING ON THE MOVE (less dispersion when moving turret and whole tank) which is what a medium needs since mediums spend more time moving than sitting still. It means when you poke out to take the shot in a peek-a-boom tactic, your reticle will start off smaller (not by much but *in Russian Wargaming developer voice* Every little bit counts!) than the T-62A.

Another advantage the 140 has over the 62A is actual hull armor, as mentioned before. The 140's upper plate is sloped at about 67 degrees which effectively makes it about 250 mm thick. If you know how to angle, you will easily add 10+ mm to that and be able to bounce most tier 10 heavies unless they get a high pen roll (RNG also makes a difference in penetration, 75%-125% of average penetration value (100%) that should explain some of the *HOWWW????* troll bounces). Now the T-62A has the same sloping as the T-54, at 60 degrees, but the plate is only 102 mm thick (120 on T-54) and double that (60 degree angle doubles the thickness, 70 degrees triples it if not auto bounces it) and you end up with 204 mm of armor. You can angle your armor, but in order to be able to bounce shots you would expose your sprocket wheel and side armor and the 140 doesn't. Angling without exposing side armor (this can be covered up by a Ridgeline) still doesn't bounce shots like the 140 does.

Now on we move to mobility. The T-62A gets best in class traverse, but the 140 isn't far behind. 54 degrees/second on 140 isn't far behind 56 on T-62A. Now the big thing is that the Obj. 140 has a 56 kmh top speed, compared to 50 on the T-62A. The 140 also has a better power to weight ratio because it is a whole ton lighter. The T-62A may have better traverse and ground resistance, but the 140 is overall the faster tank.

I think I should also mention the turrets of both tanks. The T-62A has better turret armor, that's a fact. But, in exchange for a 30 mm roof, you get -6 gun depression instead of -5 on T-54 and T-62A. Most of you wouldn't notice the difference it makes as you would be used to -5 by now, but sometimes it allows you to pull off shots that you wouldn't be able to otherwise (firing from a bush at the castle in Castilla when you're the last one alive and enemy is capping) There are some people (they know what they're doing) told me that the 140's turret is more resistant to HEAT rounds and from my experience shooting at them, I agree with that.

So to sum things up, the 140 is a better tank because it's faster and it has better hull armor. The guns of both tanks are pretty much the same except in accuracy (62A better sitting still, 140 better on the move). Most super unicums would agree with me in saying the 140 is the better tank of the two.

the heat is much better than the SU-152

infact, i bet the heat on the T62 would be able to pen the top of a tiger turret

They are both great tanks. I prefer the 140 just a bit more. I just don't find the weaker turret to be much of a problem and I love the better hull armor and extra gun depression.

T-62A's turret has weaker cheeks than the 140 and anyone who is smart enough to shoot HEAT will pen you just by aiming to the side of your gun. The 62 has better ground resistance but overall the 140 is faster. It'll beat a 62 up the hill on Mines, so that difference is marginal. The turret traverse is a bit faster yes, but 140's is more than fast enough. Track traverse, again, another marginal difference. The T-62A has 56; the 140 has 54. You're not going to notice it so it is hardly an advantage.

The 140 has a magnificent hull, sloped so much that it becomes autobounce if you use your max gun depression or angle upwards on any object. It's faster. It has more side and rear armor as well (you won't get HEed by T-62As and you can HE them). Andmost importantly, it gets an extra degree of gun depression. Considering my 140's average damage is 1200 higher than my T-62A's average damage, I'm gonna have to give it to the 140.

I haven't played the T62A, but I adore the OBJ 140 as well. The 140 plays a lot like a T54, while the T62A requires some adjustment (So I have heard).

Well the T-62A armor wise is just a much stronger turret on a T-54 hull that had 18 mm sliced off the upper glacis.

Mobility wise it's 6 kph sower than T-54, has less hp/ton, but ground resistance makes it faster (that damn stat #freeis7) than T-54, and it has the highest traverse of any tank in the game

Gun wise we all know U8>D-10T2C

Honestly, they are fairly close. I go back and forth on which I like best. Lately its the 62A. This will probably change again soon...

Newer players:  T-62 is more forgiving.

Seasoned Players:  OBJ.140 is more deadly.

140 is a much more aggressive tank. It's faster, has better gun depression, and better frontal armor if you're angled upwards. But you really do have to play aggressively in it to maximize its potential. The turret is weaker if you stand still, because of the cupolas, so you always have to be moving even when hull down. The accuracy is slightly worse than the 62A's, so your aim has to be a bit better. If you're a seasoned medium tank driver, the 140 is a perfect tank for you, but if you're just learning the ropes of hull down and hitting weakspots, get the 62A.

I couldn't stand the 62A. I ended up rageselling it(bad day:()

The depression made a huge difference to me, I couldn't do what I could in the 140.

Therefore, I'm firmly in favor of the 140

I'm late to the Russian meds party.

I just bought the t44 but haven't played a game in it yet.  Just equipped it during this weekend turret so I've got a long ways to go still.  From what I've read in this thread...if I'm used to playing British high tier tanks then which one should I try first?

I don't think the Russians and Brits really compare in terms of mediums. They're almost polar opposites except for the turrets in terms of mobility and armor. I'd probably go with the T-62a first since it keeps the limited top speed and amazing traverse from the British mediums.

Also bringing thread back up for confirmation that Object 140 isn't a waste of my time.
