SU-122-44 Tier 7 Soviet Premium Tank Destroyer
Hello all, today I would like to give a little bit of a background/history, overview and some general tactics to help you succeed and ultimately decide if this tier 7 Soviet premium is worth the money to you.
History
Development of the SU-122-44 started in the summer of 1944 to be an agile TD that packed a punch but was more mobile than its counterparts. The self propelled gun was mounted on a T-44 chasis which gave it the 44 in its designation. In December of the project was finished and ready but was terminated in favor of the much lighter and faster SU-100M-2. The SU-122-44 never got to see the battlefield.

Playstyle
The SU-122-44 has a very unique play style that not many other TD's can mirror. The TD is very agile and fast so getting to choke points on maps is not a problem. If you think of the SU-122-44 as a medium without a turret that can help you better understand the way it plays. The TD can fill a number of roles such as a sniper, support/second line and brawler/front line. Boasting great camo values, a hard hitting gun, great DPM and amazing mobility you can fall into any role you please or any role in the team that is needed.
Sniper: Being a Soviet tank the accuracy on your gun will not be the greatest, however if you take your time and aim your shells, the majority will land true on the target. The SU-122-44 has great camo value and a low profile to keep it hidden in battle. Find a nice bush to park behind and let the reds have a piece of that hard hitting, fast firing gun. Once spotted the SU's great mobility makes it easy to break contact and reloacate quickly.
Support/Second Line: The SU-122-44 has pretty well sloped armor that can troll red guns at tier. This however is not to be counted on in all matches. If you find yourself in a tier 8 game know that whatever red shoots at you will most likely penetrate. These games call for you to be a second line support tank most times. Find a good heavy or medium that is top tier and try to stick close to them but behind. Do not be the focus of the red team. While your higher tier mates are engaging the enemy use this time poke out and shoot without the return fire coming your way. Another great way to assist your team with the DPM of this machine is to track the enemy.
Brawler/Front Line: Should you find yourself in a game where you are top tier, know for the most part you can be top dog and bully the red team with your bouncy armor, hard hitting gun, DPM and mobility. Play like a medium without a turret. With all these attributes you are able to get in the face of red team and go to work. Along with that great mobility comes the use of flanking in certain situations, nothing better than flanking the red team and watch them panic as you hit them in the rear for 400+. While brawling try to keep a little bit of a cushion between you and the red mediums. While it is difficult to flank the SU-122-44 because of it's mobility and traverse it can still happen. So be weary of highly mobile mediums and lights that can surpass your traverse.
Equipment: To each their own but for my personal play style I like to use gun rammer(All tanks should have this if you can), EGLD to help you with accuracy and Vents to improve crew performance and vehicle performance. These pieces of equipment will not only help your performance in the SU-122-44 but the tank as well
Is it worth it?
My personal opinion on the SU-122-44 is a big YES! Yes it is worth every penny I spent on it. The TD makes very good credits even with the use of provisions and premium ammo. While not boasting preferential matchmaking the gun has the ability to punch almost every tier 9 through the front. The mobility of this TD is what really makes it shine. Being able to fill any role you wish because of the versatility makes it very fun and rewarding to play as well. Great gun, great mobility, great camo, great DPM and great credit earning make this my single most favorite tank to play.
Pros: Very mobile
Great DPM
Hard hitting gun
Good camo and low profile
Great credit making potential
Very easy to play
Good TD crew skill grinder
Troll armor
Cons: Limited gun arc(Side to side movement of gun)
Terrible gun depression
No preferential matchmaking
Not the best accuracy but not terrible either
