Hi,
I'm not really much of a Russian tank player but I love my SU-44-122 so I would like the SU-54-122. I like that it's a mix of brawler that feels like the Jagdpanther/105.
However I'm really really bad in my SU-100.
I was pretty good in my 85i and fine in my SU-85.
Can I please have some help and tips for equipment lay out/load out, playstyle? Which gun? Should I kemp? Where on what maps should I be doing what? Supporting slightly behind the first wave or strictly staying back more?
All Help is greatly appreciated. I would love to platoon to help but with a 20 month old who doesn't sleep I usually only get a handful of games a night in (weekends are much better) and I would like to make them optimal.
If people have found some good youtube clips that would be appreciated to pass them along. I watched uh,... maybe 48tonruckes' and he used the derp gun and just camped. Is that the playstyle?
Firstly, I would use the 100mm gun (NOT the top gun, the 122mm). The 100mm has much better accuracy, aim time, and DPM, but it only loses a fairly small amount of alpha damage.
The SU-100 has FANTASTIC camo, so it's pretty much invisible if you're in a bush. SU-100 is an excellent sniper, like the ISU-152, Obj 704, and Obj 268. Kemping is a pretty good strategy, since for late game, the mobility lets you move to finish off enemies.
However, if kemping in the spawn isn't for you, the mobility will allow you to play somewhat aggressively, just be aware of the thin armor and low HP.
Additionally, for equipment, the standard Vents, Rammer, and GLD is fine, but you can sub GLD for Camo Net if you know you like kemping bushes.
And frankly imo, the Obj 263 line is far overrated. The gun depression (how far you can aim down) is awful, and you'll find yourself fighting your own tank more than the enemy. The gun arc (how far you can aim to the left and right) is also awful, so you have to keep moving the hull and resetting the aimer. Also, the tanks have some of the worst damage per shot compared to other TDs of the same tier, which isn't a good characteristic in a TD, especially with the recent removal of sniping spots.
The Obj 268 line is superb however. Not a single bad tank in the line. The SU-152 is a monster with the STOCK gun. 640 damage per shot is the same as what most tier IX and X TDs do, and is ridiculous at tier VII. The ISU-152 has the legendary BL-10. It's like the SU-152 but with the ability to shoot the Tiger II on the upper frontal plate (when angled) and still go through without gold ammo. The Obj 704 has pretty good armor, and the BL-10 and can double as a sniper or assault gun, and the tier X Obj 268 has the 2nd best HEAT round pen (2nd only to the JPE-100's 420mm of pen), great accuracy, and amazing mobility.
