Hi,

I'm not really much of a Russian tank player but I love my SU-44-122 so I would like the SU-54-122.  I like that it's a mix of brawler that feels like the Jagdpanther/105.

However I'm really really bad in my SU-100.

I was pretty good in my 85i and fine in my SU-85.

Can I please have some help and tips for equipment lay out/load out, playstyle?  Which gun?  Should I kemp?  Where on what maps should I be doing what?  Supporting slightly behind the first wave or strictly staying back more?

All Help is greatly appreciated.  I would love to platoon to help but with a 20 month old who doesn't sleep I usually only get a handful of games a night in (weekends are much better) and I would like to make them optimal.

If people have found some good youtube clips that would be appreciated to pass them along.  I watched uh,... maybe 48tonruckes' and he used the derp gun and just camped.  Is that the playstyle?

SU-44-122? A TD developed with a 44mm gun, and developed 1220? DUDE WHAT?!?

But seriously.

Rammer, Stabalizer & Vents

Play much like the SU-122-44, But without the rate of fire and Russian biased armour™  (hang back more), Play support.

Yeah, definitely use the deep gun. I loved the su100, its really a sweet spot in that line.  I tended to do more running with the mediums than sniping. A peekaboom play style works really great with this tank I think.

The gun handling is trash IMO ( on the top derp ), even with equipment. SU-100 was my least favourite russian TD. I used the 100mm.

I agree with twofree on this one.  when you have an agile TD its best to run with a medium and if you want to play semi-aggressive.

I wouldn't camp.  Gun handling is just too bad to take long, well aimed shots.  I played it 2nd line then got aggressive toward end of session to remove the effects of poor gun handling (point blank).  If I did perch to snipe, I was quick to leave if I wasn't getting easy targets.  I tended to snipe a little more as -2.  I just finished the grind so my experience is pretty fresh.  The alpha of the 100's top gun is good and worth the trade in load time.   I always favor high alfa with slow load as it let's you hide more.  You're likely to take damage as you expose because the cammo isn't great.

I rushed through it to get the SU100M1 with predictable results. I rebought it after the event to try and salvage my stats. I hang back and perch on the first minute taking care to ensure that my flanks are covered. If I get left behind I relocate and move with the herd to the next perch. Let the heavies take the hits, move into position while the enemy is reloading, hit them when they peek out, hide and reload, repeat.

I prefer the 122 over the 100. Its relatively thin armor means that I have to get as much damage in as I can (IF it hits) when a target appears. Russian accuracy means quite a few troll wild shots right at the edge of the green circle.

Firstly, I would use the 100mm gun (NOT the top gun, the 122mm). The 100mm has much better accuracy, aim time, and DPM, but it only loses a fairly small amount of alpha damage.

The SU-100 has FANTASTIC camo, so it's pretty much invisible if you're in a bush. SU-100 is an excellent sniper, like the ISU-152, Obj 704, and Obj 268. Kemping is a pretty good strategy, since for late game, the mobility lets you move to finish off enemies.

However, if kemping in the spawn isn't for you, the mobility will allow you to play somewhat aggressively, just be aware of the thin armor and low HP.

Additionally, for equipment, the standard Vents, Rammer, and GLD is fine, but you can sub GLD for Camo Net if you know you like kemping bushes.

And frankly imo, the Obj 263 line is far overrated. The gun depression (how far you can aim down) is awful, and you'll find yourself fighting your own tank more than the enemy. The gun arc (how far you can aim to the left and right) is also awful, so you have to keep moving the hull and resetting the aimer. Also, the tanks have some of the worst damage per shot compared to other TDs of the same tier, which isn't a good characteristic in a TD, especially with the recent removal of sniping spots.

The Obj 268 line is superb however. Not a single bad tank in the line. The SU-152 is a monster with the STOCK gun. 640 damage per shot is the same as what most tier IX and X TDs do, and is ridiculous at tier VII. The ISU-152 has the legendary BL-10. It's like the SU-152 but with the ability to shoot the Tiger II on the upper frontal plate (when angled) and still go through without gold ammo. The Obj 704 has pretty good armor, and the BL-10 and can double as a sniper or assault gun, and the tier X Obj 268 has the 2nd best HEAT round pen (2nd only to the JPE-100's 420mm of pen), great accuracy, and amazing mobility.

Much thanks to everyone that replied.

I'm trying the 100 for now but after getting a handle on the handling, etc I plan to try the 122.

Last night was a big turn around of  "running with the mediums".

I agree with using the 100 mm gun.  I tried the 122 but really struggled with it and a 50% win rate.  Going back to the 100 mm was enough to pull my win rate up to over 58%.

Hi Folks,

Just a follow up thanks.  I'm doing better in it.  Had this game which I want to post cause it's not often you take out a SP I C with one HE shell plus a ram for a Kamikazee :D.  The tank's mobility is nice and panic backing up gets a descent number of bounces.

I didn't smear the names but it's not a name and shame.

Use 100mm gun.
122 is a trash barrwl at 6.
I tried the 122 for one match after i unlocked if out of curiosity. Never again.

If it wasnt for bad mm giving me 6-7 losses in a row with the same platoom being in my team 3 times i would have finished higher than 76%. The tank is overpowrered really.

100m1 has amazing armor though and can bounce tons of shots when you angle because of the slopes om the edges. 101 has no armor, 100m1 has great armor and 100 has decent armor
