I'll definitely pick her back up eventually supah. But for now I'm pretty content with 'er stats. Hey who knows, I might finally get that ace once I realize the power of that autoloader xD

But for now I'm on a mission to free exp the kv-1s's top gun, blueify/purpleify those stats, and get that ace

Having a hard time winning in the a20 as I work on it to try to improve. Seems like I,m in a lot more matches where I am low tier, but ok...I will be extra conservative and supportive....and use pacer or he.

Example...desert sands.  I encourage team to follow our lone kv1 to town...I take up a position on the outside of town behind a building and wait for the play to develop. Rest of the team comes to town piecemeal after driving the canyon. As I am being patient the entire red lemming train led by Luchs and Leo show up literally right in front of me....before I can back out I take significant hp...they must have seen me before I picked them up....ok...use speed to get away but shot into keester by another member of the red train as I run....try to go around through town and flank through canyon. I actually sneak up and kill the red kv sitting in cap. My team is getting overwhelmed in town as they are uncoordinated and spread out behind buildings. Trying to motor out of cap area I get nailed by red td hiding behind cap....

it it is frustrating enough that I wonder if I should avoid the a 20 and the Russian Meds for now. I do better wr and damage with my m4 than my t34...should I go back down to the bt 7? I had a 50% before I moved to the a20.... Trying to remediate my bad tanks to 50% before moving up and playing the tier vi tanks I unlocked.

cheers

i missed your message D: I'll probably be on around 6pm CST if your still up

I fight towards true opposition. I guess I'm Mr.Controversial considering most elitests view my statements as if I was a liberal in a conservative house. Firm believer in nerfing premium ammo, +/-1 MM, buffing the credit coefficients for nonpremium tanks, adding a reload timer & range meter to where you point your cross hairs(Check mark! thank you WG!!), making armor actually work, nerfing RNG for slower reloads, buffing RNG for faster reloads, and making the tracks not eat 700+ alpha damage from HE when applicable.

I love this game

I find the A-20, to be a overpowered tank. As long as you don't get shot and stand still next to a smart target, it is a very deadly tank in close combat with, and is a blast to drive!

I'm amazed no one has taken that name before.

The insight that you should treat the a20 like a leopard opened my eyes to the play so I rebought a bt 2 and am going to work up from there to one hundred games..my wr is already higher ...doing the same with a pz2 and m2 medium to get skills solid...I wanrpt to be able to shoot on the run better so that is a good place to learn

I agree with Leadf00t there...

Looooove my A20. Recently played "Pop goes the weasel" around that little hill at the top of Middleburg against 5 reds.. and got them all.

If a not-so-good player like me can get results like that in an A20.. it's definitely worth looking at again.

Don't be seen. Don't get hit. Choose your shots carefully. And be PATIENT! You have 7 minutes for crying out loud!
Oh.. and don't get hit.  Did I mention "Don't get hit?"... Yah.. don't get hit.

(For someone with a signature like this.. I sure get a lot of "Steel Wall" medals. Ugh.)

Here is another a 20 question...any tips or thoughts on how to improve shooting of the run? Trying to get out of the habit of stopping to shoot...it usually means trading hit points and that is no way to play fast light tanks...especially out in the open...thanks

Cheers

Mark

Early in the match, I stop and empty a clip in them, but only if the enemy isn't looking at me.  You can't really trade shots with anything in the A20, so play conservatively early.  Once you're spotted, find cover and reset camo.  If the enemy comes for you, use your superior speed to run & relocate (I carry the speed boost just for that).

I generally don't try to shoot on the run until late in the round, or if your enemy is isolated and I'm in a safe spot from the rest of the team.  Then I turn on AA and CoD him -- few tanks stand a chance in that situation.  To try to do so early in the match begs someone else to turn and instapop you.

There's also a skill that helps with your accuracy when shooting on the run, but I've found the difference only marginal.

Hopefully someone else will come along, more experienced and better than me, to share their tips.  But in the meantime, I hope this helps...Leadfoot

C'mon, the pre nerf Luchs was better than everything. I managed to finish it with a win rate over 80%, and I'm not that good.

This really isn't the tank for shooting on the run. You need to be aimed in and shooting from camo (at least at the start of the clip), or up close and personal, staying behind their gun. Crew skills will make a difference, but it definitely has minimal impact at first.

My playstyle in it generally revolves around running out to get the first spots to send green in the right direction, then resetting camo between each clip. It's fast enough that you can be halfway across the map by the next time you're ready to fire. Don't tunnel vision. Treat it like a big alpha, glass TD. Your job is to chip off big chunks of the reds' health, not to rush in for the kill shots. Well, unless you want to.

That's exactly how I've found success in this tank, too.  Well said.

Ok this is driving me a little nuts.

Russian tanks have a "-" in them. Always. American tanks do not.  It is A-20.

For example there are two tanks with a T and a 34 in them. The T-34 is the Russian tier V medium and the T34 is the American tier VIII premium heavy tank.

Also I went back to remediate my A-20 from my n00b days. I hate the auto-loaders, hate them. The good news is that the 76mm has OK penetration for it's tier and decent alpha. It doesn't have near the DPM of the automatic, but I find it works for me a lot better. It's not the amazing gun of the M3 Lee or the Pz IV D or the Chi-Nu, but in terms of what you have to pick from on the A-20 it works the best for me.

Tier IV - A-20
Gun ROF Low Dmg High Dmg   Low DPM High DPM Average DPM   Low Pen High Pen Average Pen   Dispersion Aiming Time
45 mm 20K 16.22 41 69   665 1119 892   38 64 51   0.46 1.9
37 mm ZiS-19 21.05 30 50   632 1053 842   43 72 58   0.35 1.5
45 mm VT-42 20.00 41 69   820 1380 1100   56 94 75   0.34 1.3
76 mm L-11 6.32 120 200   758 1264 1011   51 85 68   0.43 1.8
37 mm Automatic SH-37 38.30 30 50   1149 1915 1532   42 70 56   0.40 1.4

Lephturn, can you or Lokeen talk  us through a few battle scenarios with the a-20(lol)which worked for you? Perhaps Either here in forum or as a podcast? Maybe a "snapshot" podcast based on a line..like Russian Meds.....From tier I-x....might be a cool series idea to add to your usual series like " best job I Ever had" or "battlefield breakdown". I suspect this tank rocks in platoon....but that does not happen as often as I might like...I do marginally better in t-34 and even Rudy than a-20.

Thanks as always and cheers to everybody

I'm no Lepthturn or Lokeen, but here are two videos in the A-20 you might find helpful:

FWIW, the first time I played this tank, around 100 matches in, this tank's speed got me into trouble.   I did horrible.   Now that I've got a better handle on how the maps and battles tend to unfold, I find the tank's speed, maneuverability, and gun a potent combination, and twice as nice in a squad.

Here's what I've learned....

  • For me, the key to this tank is (a) using its speed and (b) mastering the autocannon -- an odd three shot, two cartridge gun.
  • Solo, I tend to play very fast, trying to keep moving and flanking.  See first video.
  • Running two of them in a squad and focusing fire is devastating to isolated enemy tanks.  See second video.
  • In a squad, you can (a) run tight and focus fire (if both of you connect with all six shots, most tier 4 tanks die in one volley) or (b) set up short flank & crossfire.  Both techniques are effective.
  • Isolated targets with slow traverse speed are dead meat to the CoD.
  • You can also play peek-a-boom with the tank due to its superior acceleration -- but it's high risk as you have crap armor and few HP.
  • If you're overmatched, I don't hesitate to use APCR.
  • The tank's weakness is shooting moving targets at range -- the three shots per trigger action makes hitting a moving target a real challenge.
  • It has paper-thin armor, but you can occasionally bounce off the sloped front.
  • It's light, so choose your ramming targets very carefully.

Bottom line: Use the superior acceleration and speed to set up a good three shot burst or two, then use the tank's speed to find cover, reset camo & re-position.

Hope these help....Leadfoot
