After over 200 matches in this thing, I finally sold it.  I just couldn't break 50% as the tank's required play style just doesn't work for me.  I think that's going to be my rule.  If I can't do better than 50% after 200+ matches, then it's bye-bye regardless of what tier it is.

It's one thing for a tank to be able to sidescrape well, but quite another when the tank's other weaknesses require you to sidescrape as that tank's main combat style.

My own play style definitely favors mobility and the ability to use and angle my tank's own frontal armor when needed.

Good-Bye IS-4.  I don't think I'm going to miss you.

What's the difference between the IS-4 and IS-7? Could someone explain this to me. This seems to be the least talked about T10 Heavy.

The name, the gun, the speed, the tank, etc. Two different animals.

Bushka's uploaded a few new videos on the IS-4, it's worth checking out.

The IS-4 has a much better gun than the IS-7, and arguably better armor. I also find the turret to be stronger than the IS-7s because it is harder to pen with HEAT shells. The only downside is that it is slightly slower but that doesn't bother me. IS-4>IS-7

IS-7 is better for public matches.

IS-4 is better for clan wars.

Yes, the IS-4 is better than the IS-7 IF you can protect your frontal armor by side scraping, face hugging, or getting behind a rock etc...   But the frontal armor of the IS-4 is just too weak to stand alone.   I found this too frustrating, because when you couple this with the tank's poor mobility, I found myself always trying to triangulate in combat situations and thus being 1-2 steps behind the action.   So in any rapidly developing situation, I would need to look for some rock or building that is near the action that would allow me to keep from getting penned.  Otherwise, I would end up trading hit points with the other tank.

I don't mind having to triangulate some of the time, but not ALL the time.   A triangulating play style works fine for a defensive posture, but if your other green teammates are mobile and aggressive, triangulation is just a frustrating play style.   On the other hand, for a mobile, aggressive, brawling play style, the IS-7 beats the IS-4 by a lot.

Thanks, it seems like the IS-4 is pretty good then.

In the clan wars videos guys have put up, many seem to use the IS-7. Is it just that many people don't have the IS-4, and instead use the IS-7?

Dont ever sell a tier X if you can help it. Just put in garage until we beg for a buff. WG listens and tank is better. You know Russian bias.

Add the new improved fuel and run adrenaline and this thing is more than mobile enough to hang with the group.

It is my best tier X tank.  The armor can be down right trollish when played right.  I honestly don't know why I don't see more of these tanks at tier X.

There are few things an E100 fears.  One is a IS4 charging it to face hug and just spamming prammo into it's cheeks.

IMO,

For defensive play style, IS-4 is better. Better gun. Better armor when side scraping.

For offensive play style, IS-7 is better:  Better mobility, more effective frontal armor when combined with mobility.

IS-4 is a great all around tank if you don't rush in the middle of the red team. Very good gun for a russian line. Truly brilliant and under appreciated tank.

Not too many tanks want to mess with you. :)

Both tanks are good, I find the IS-4 a little more monotonous to play but each has it's unique strengths/weaknesses with neither having a clear overall advantage over the other

Hope it's not too late but don't sell the IS-4

I'm currently grinding the is4 line and am at the Sti, but only because the Sti is totally fricking derp. (Based off of fighting them) I find the is7 better. The 130mm on the gun really fcks you up, not to mention it has the highest penetration of any tier ten heavy tank. The is4, however, has only equivalent armor and can still be penetrated if your looking even slightly down at it. There's nothing special about the gun, and it's also less agile.

High fived the T110E5, befriended the Type 59, married the KV4

I actually like the IS4 more than the IS7 just because I can play it more like a their 10 IS, my favorite tank in the game. I like tanks that can side scrape and that can be more difficult at close range with the IS7.
Things could always be worse?

When someone says the IS-4 has terrible frontal armor, you know they don't angle well.

Is4 and Is7 are by far the best tier X tanks for those new to the tier IMHO (Obj140 being best overall). IS4 is compact, bouncy and packs a big punch. No massive slab sides like an E100, no enormous soft carbuncle on its head like an E5. Is7 is fast and has a bomb-proof turret. Just go hull down or keep that nose pointed at the enemy. I'd have to really hate a tier X to sell it and lose a ton of credits rather than wait in hope for a few buffs that might suit my play style.
