I wouldn't get the IS-7 again.  IS3 and KV1S are supreme for that line.  The IS8 is also decent.  But IS7 was not worth 6.1m credits imo...

Really? The armor, decent, mobility and punchy gun, I find to be a good combination.

I'd say it really isn't worth the grind. The highlight of the IS7 line is the IS3 and maybe the IS8 once you've got it fully upgraded. IS7 itself isn't a very good tank, it's armor can give you a few lucky bounces, but it's very weak to heat which pretty much negates the frontal armor. Speaking of frontal armor the ammo rack is right behind one of the plates so you're bound to either get one shot or get a damage ammorack. The armor's only saving grace is it's turret which is insanely strong, although the hatches become a weakspot when you face hug taller tanks. The gun is terrible and has nothing going for it, the reload is nothing to brag about and the decent alpha is offset by the horrendous accuracy and handling. Your ammunition should pretty much consist of apcr as the ap pen shouldn't be relied upon when the accuracy is that bad. Mobility is "meh" at best, it'll go at a decent speed in a straight line but becomes very sluggish when you turn it. Overall the tank is a 6/10 at best.

Did you watch my video? I did quite well firing minimum APCR. You just need to aim instead of pressing 2 and firing blindly at anything you see.

why don't you carry more apcr rounds? APCR has more penetration and no downsides

because there is no need to carry more APCR. I only basically really needed it in the video is when I'm facing hugging the Jg Pz E-100 which is something I try not to do.

You're really quick to make a strawman and assume that I don't aim or fire blindly. The IS7's gun has the same dispersion and aiming time as an E100, that's very bad considering the E100 makes up for that with nice alpha, you can't say the same for the IS7.

I carry APCR because I prefer to make credits rather than lose it. But if you want to put it in that perspective, sure.

but the IS-7 has superior penetration with AP and can actually penetrate with it. You don't need APCR for everything

IS-7 is by far the worst of the 2 Russian Xs and one of the worst tier X heavies overall.

AP penetration doesn't really matter. Especially when the tradeoff is 30 less gold pen on the APCR round.

I guess the Maus is a tier X Russian heavy tank.

Sheesh people, give it a rest.  He plays it how he wants it and he's a capable player, so let him play without provisions or a ton of APCR.

Good vid man.

Great review.  Thanks!  This is my first Tier X heavy and I have wanted it since I started (irrational love for certain tanks) and it has been a mixed blessing (only as a result of my, nothing to do with the tank itself).  I was able to get mastery at 6600, so it looks like somewhere in the 6K range is where it is found.

I was running about 58-60% in it until the past 2/3 days with the 2.11 update.  I have, however, had a HORRIBLE run the past days and am putting it in the garage for a while.  I have had wild misses, games with virtually no pen (400-500's!!) and I think I have dropped just below 53%.

I really enjoy this tank, find it to be a real challenge to stay in a position where the numerous big guns don't pen me and I try to maximize positions where I can be in a hull down mode.  I personally think I need to spend more times on the maps because I find myself overextending at times in this tank and I am worried that I am playing it too aggressively after the enemy team is spotted.

Thanks again for a solid review.
