Is the new Mines map good? Is it balanced?

Personally, I find it undesirable for a number of reasons.

  • The ramps towards the mine entrance are too cramped without enough terrain feature (rise and dips)
  • The idea of getting into mine to spot TD positions from PC does not apply on Blitz. You don't need to enter Mines to spot. The mine is just another place on the map with no particular advantage.
  • Static hill ramp standoff which is now common is boring.
  • The team from northern spawn is more advantaged with better TD coverage and better rock cover for its flankers through light house
  • The hill foot near town is too round for heavies of southern team to take cover from the northern TDs
  • A majority medium team with no TDs seem disadvantaged.

What do you think? Is the new Mines map fun? Is it balanced? Does one spawn receive more benefits than another? Are some kind of lineups naturally disadvantaged (like with the old Mines map)?

Just realized this discussion seems to fit better under General Discussion. Is there a way to delete or move the post?

A mod might be kind enough to move it.

The south spawn has heavies that can reach the corner of the hill at the town and use it in a far better way than heavies from the north spawn can

But once you are at hill corner, every peak invites a heavy shot from the TDs up the back hill. That would be one of my complaints. The hill corner is too round.

I prefer the old mines lol. The new mines is made for campers... just IMO. You can sit in spawn and get shots on the cap area, hill/center of map, and the lighthouse

I love it even when I spawn with the hill on my right. It isn't truly unbalanced I believe, only asymetrically shaped. I may be imagining it because I like it for my playing style, but it seems some of the best battles I have had in the game are on the new mines. There are lots of possible tactics in that blob down the hill in a wide T from the water to the base. It's very interesting from either side for me.

The spawn at the other side (hill up left) has weak spots for people trying to flank right if anyone is spotting at all.

I love that map!

Also, either side with a good side-scraping heavy gets to the spawn side of the rocks at the entrance, and has cover to the rear pretty much rules it, just like it was, only different.

But talk a bunch of people into that plan. lol they think the world changed..

I like it.it seems to be a little more evenly matched due to the cap circle. And the hill isn't as dominant as it used to be.but hill captured is more winnable of a game.id
