I just recently got a RU-251 today, I do know about the cred. draining issue (I have Credit grinders, so might not be an issue), im also not sure on what to upgrade first, and how to play it as stock W/75% crew, and should i have HEAT shells in my arsenal?

  1. Play the Indian Panzer.
  2. Research Leopard PTA.
  3. Get top engine without playing RU-251.

So therefore, tracks.

You should carry all three ammo types in your load out. Use HE shells for them pesky SP 1 C and Borsig. Use AP when you don't want to fully aim and need the normalization. Use HEAT when you aren't spotted and need to get through more armor than the AP shells can handle.

If you are spotted, continuing your flank is almost always the correct move.

I would recommend engine. Ru 251 is all about the speed.

Agreed with Xavier on the ammo part. You will want at least 10 rounds of HE because the Ru 251's HE shells has a surprising 100mm of penetration, meaning if you see the butt of an enemy tank (particularly German or American tanks) you should fire HE to deal an extra 60 damage or so. Continued HE spam at the penetrable rear of an enemy gives you a higher chance to set fires and damage important modules, and getting to a position where you can shoot the rear isn't too hard with the fastest tank in the game.

I played maybe 20 games in it, didn't do well and was short on credits (this was pre earning buff) and sold it. Some on the info here will help me for whenever I restart that line.

I would go Engine -> Tracks -> Engine. The terrain resistance boosts on the tracks with the traverse helps the mobility more than the top engine.

With regards to credits, the RU-251 received a massive credit coefficient buff, and boosted it from a horrendous 56% coefficient to a passable 86%. Check the link in my sig to see how it stacks up against other tanks.

I would pack some HEAT shells too. With such thin armor, you want to spend as little time aiming as possible.

Playstyle wise, until you max it out (Crew too), stick to a sniper/support tank role. The RU-251 has excellent DPM, accuracy, and camo rating, which can still be used effectively even without the speed. Just be cautious.
