So recently bought one this beast of a tank for credit grinding so might as well do a review on it. In this review

Firepower

Pros

+Good dpm and good alpha

Cons

-Aimtime and accuracy aren't very good at all.

This is your standard russian 122mm brutal alpha but at the cost of aimtime and accuracy. Your gun is meant for up close brawling and peek-a-booming things if you camp and snipe you are bad and will do bad.

Survivability

Pros

+Great frontal armor

+Great side armor

+Classic Russian bias blackhole side skirts (you think I am kidding)

+Good gun mantlet

+Fantastic staying power when top tier

+Lower plate isn't a weak spot and people might shoot there

Cons

-Top roof armor is weak and triple overmatch for guns over 90mm

-Cheeks are penned easily with 160+ pen guns

This is the best part of the tank. Your armor profile is amazing, any sub 220mm pen rounds can be bounced at the ideal angle. Your side armor has those sideskirts and with russian black hole technology these things eat shots,

Mobility

Pros

+Very mobile for a it's armor

+Turns well so you can't be circled

Cons

-It isn't a light tank

You move really well around the battlefield, your speed allows you to get around different flanks and turn around. It isn't hyper speed but it is one best in tier.

Armor profile

Frontally

YtkKHkg.png

Frontal this thing is already quite strong with your front being 100mm @ ~60º effectively doubling your frontal armor. The lower plate is 120mm thick sloped at 60º giving you 240mm of protection (without normalization). Weakspots on the hull would be just above the lower plate as you are aiming down on it thus reducing the effective angle and the mid plate which only provides ~160mm of armor.

Turret

UFFvWHX.jpgYour gun mantlet is quite strong and can get up to 390 in some places, it is not recommended to be shooting here. Your turret cheeks however are not that strong, only providing ~160mm of armor. Also your turret roof is only 30mm thick which means that your turret roof is triple overmatch for 90mm+ calibre guns which isn't good at all.

Side armor

OpVljbu.png

Your side hull is where you should be shooting an is-6 it only provides ~130mm of armor some tier 6s will have trouble penning this but the majority of tanks won't have trouble penning your side. HOWEVER your side skirts are black holes providing from ~145 to 900mm of side armor. YOU THINK I AM KIDDING WELL I AM NOT

4MIMTUk.pngSERIOUSLY WHAT THE [EDITED] #RUSSIAN_BIAS #STRONK #SUPERSECRETSOVIETTECHNOLOGY #WORKINGASINTEDEDCOMRADE #IFITSNOTRUSSIANITSNOTMAGIC Your side skirts are troll shoot above these if you can.

Angled Is-6

ZrPHXaL.jpg

Immune against lower tiers but just shoot the side-plate-thingy that is towards you and you can pen that somewhat reliability.

Suggested platoon matches

Another is-6 or another pref tier 8 prem

My Setup

0RKcTTF.png

TL;DR

This tank is a very stronk premium and would recommend it to anyone who doesn't mind low pen and bad accuracy but likes to get up close and personally to brawl. If you want a premium tank that farms lower tiers and can hold it's own against tier equal and higher tier tanks this might be the tank for you.

Great review... I have no idea why some don't think much of this tank. I would love to see what the armor values are if you point the first bend to the enemy, keeping both front and shoulder angled (like 20-30 degrees instead of 45). Thats what I try and do.

If tanks had life stages, the IS-6 would be the larvae of the IS-4

I've been doing the 'bounce wiggle-turret jiggle' it seems to work OK so far.

Thanks for the review! I would +1 but I'm out for the day. I'll be sure to +1 in the morning.

I'm really enjoying the IS-6 at the moment. The mobility is quite good for a heavy tank and the premium matchmaking is very welcome. I'd like to find an experienced IS-6 user to platoon with in the future and dominate the tier eight battlefield. :justwait:

I remember very well that battle on your screenshot. Nicely carried by both of you!

I have both T34 and IS-6 and i can tell you that the IS-6 is easier to make money with just because of his armor.  Period.

so if you want credits, go IS-6
