AMX 50 100: Medium Assassin in Heavy Clothing

 

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen! I am EdAWACSdenyY and today I am here to tell you all about the AMX 50 100. This is the tier 8 French autoloading heavy tank and a potentially devastating assassin when played properly. Let’s examine this peculiar vehicle of Liberty Equality and Fraternity shall we?

 

 

 

Background History:

 

With the conclusion of World War 2 in Europe, France sought to reestablish itself as a global military power. One way was to reinitiate tank design and construction. In fact, the designing of new armoured vehicles started almost immediately after Paris was liberated. While clandestine tank development had been ongoing during the German occupation, at the end of the war, the French Army found itself lacking modern tanks in its inventory and as an interim solution, utilized German Panther and Tiger 1 tanks until native designs could enter production.

One attempt at creating a modern French tank, was the ARL 44, This was a heavy tank built by the Atelier de Construction de Rueil (the French Army Workshop), and incorporated both old and new technology. Overall it was an unsatisfactory transitional vehicle due to its obsolete chassis and suspension system. Nevertheless, it gave much needed experience to French tank designers, who were out of the loop with regards to the latest tank technologies of the day.

  

With the failure of the ARL 44 project, the French Army in March 1945, invited the French industry to design a new more satisfactory armoured vehicle. The French company AMX (Atelier de Construction d'Issy-les-Moulineaux) in that same year submitted their proposal for a heavy tank, projet 141, which was a prototype vehicle designated M 4. The tank’s hull mimicked the external appearance of the German Tiger 2, albeit on a much smaller scale. The main armament was to be a 90mm gun developed by the Schneider company.

The general idea behind the M 4 prototype was to produce a native French tank which incorporated the excellent qualities of tanks proven during wartime. This included both Soviet and especially German designs. The prototype was intended to produce a tank that was well armed, well armored, while remaining agile enough to counter potential threats posed by Soviet armor. This is surprising considering thatthe tank was to only weigh 30 tonnes, and had only 30 mm of armor thickness (an absurdly thin level of protection).

 

The French Army found the tank’s low armor protection, unacceptable and ordered an increase in the armor thickness while also ordering 2 prototypes for evaluation. Naturally, these design changes increased the original weight of the vehicle, so other design elements had to compensate. AMX quickly decided to install a novel new turret designed by the French company FAMH (Forges & Acieries de la Marine et d’Homécourt). This was probably the most revolutionary feature of the tank, now designated AMX 50 (after the tank’s manufacturer AMX, and its intended weight of 50 tonnes).

 

The tank featured an oscillating turret, which had been already used on the French AMX-13 light tank as well as the Panhard EBR armored car. The design certainly was interesting. The oscillating  turret lacked a gun mantlet, and consisted of 2 parts. The lower half of the turret, allowed for horizontal traverse of the gun and could rotate 360 degrees in either direction. In the upper half, gun elevation and depression was accomplished by pivoting the entire top half of turret up and down. Therefore the turret, rather than the gun “oscillates”.

The oscillating turret gave the AMX 50 two distinct advantages. Firstly, it allowed the the turret to be much smaller than a conventional turret while maintaining a reasonably heavy armament, since the gun breech does not need space for vertical movement. A smaller turret saved weight and presented a lower silhouette, making it a smaller target for enemy fire. Lastly, because the gun was fixed in place, the oscillating turret allowed for installation of an autoloader fed by multi-round magazines. This gave the tank a very high rate of fire (so long as the magazine was loaded), since the gun was fixed to the autoloader located at upper turret’s rear in a protruding bustle. The oscillating turret proved a trendy design in the 1950’s, but mostly saw operational usage on French armored vehicles.

 

When examining the AMX 50’s external appearance, one can easily see the inspirations French designers took from Wehrmacht armor. Like on the Panther tank, the hull sides were vertical and the upper glacis plate of the AMX 50 was sloped at a 40 degree angle, improving protection. Overall however, the armor of the AMX 50 was generally inferior to that of its British and American counterparts.

 

The tracks and the road wheels were reminiscent of the Tiger and Panther’s suspension. Like those tanks, the AMX 50 had overlapping road wheels (9 on each side), but of a smaller size and fitted with rubber tyres. The French designers were not aware that the German overlapping wheel design (which they so admired) was motivated by a shortage of high quality rubber. German tanks required large road wheels to lower tyre pressure, which were overlapped to evenly distribute the load bearing. France had no problems obtaining high quality rubber for its tanks so the overlapping wheels were a superfluous feature.

 

To insure good cross-country mobility the AMX 50 had torsion bar suspension. Even the powerplant installed on the AMX 50 was a modified German engine! The engine installed in the AMX 50 was a Maybach HL 295 gasoline engine seized from the German occupation. French designers hoped to modify the engine output to 1200 horsepower. However, due to technological limitations at the time, this ambitious goal was never achieved and the power output was only 1000 horsepower. This was less than satisfactory. A top speed limit of only 51 km per hour hardly qualified the AMX 50 as the medium tank it was supposed to be.

 

The first prototype of the AMX 50 was delivered in fall of 1949 and during the winter of 1950, the tank was rearmed with an autoloading 100mm gun. The tank weighed 53.7 tonnes and had an oscillating turret.

The second prototype was also armed with a 100mm gun developed by the Arsenal de Tarbes, but fitted inside a slightly different oscillating turret. It weighed exactly the same as the first prototype. Both tanks were equipped with a twin barrel 7.5 mm Reibel machine gun setup on the turret roof for anti-aircraft purposes.

 

The AMX 50 was an innovative and ambitious project and the French government had exceedingly high expectations for their tank. It was to have the Panther’s armor, the Tiger’s firepower, the M4 Sherman’s reliability as well as the Soviet T-34’s mobility. This was to be the lynchpin of France’s return to the world stage. Keep in mind that at this time, France was desperately trying to cling onto its colonial empire as well as regain its status as a Great Power. The reconstruction and revitalization of its armaments industry served this agenda. So fond were the French of the AMX 50 that the first 2 prototypes were proudly displayed on Bastille Day in 1950.

But to create a viable indigenous design was not a simple matter of French pride. Europe was physically, psychologically and economically devastated by the Second World War. France like other European nations were still recovering from the conflict and wanted a degree of independence towards the superpowers of America and the Soviet Union, to find a middle ground in an increasingly polarized world.

 

At the time the AMX 50 was superior in mobility and firepower compared to contemporary British and American tanks and therefore would have been a logical candidate for a tank that was suitable for all European nations. The French very much wanted the AMX 50 to become a common European tank, in fact they counted on it. Ironically, the French hoped for American funding as their economic situation did not permit them to rearm on their own.

 

But these plans were abruptly scuppered, with the sudden outbreak of the Korean War. The United States immediately ramped up medium tank production of their new M47 Patton tank. When the M47 was phased out in favor of the improved M48 Patton, the surplus M47 Patton tanks were distributed to European nations at no additional expense. France eagerly jumped at the opportunity to acquire  these new vehicles into its arsenal. The AMX 50 with a 100mm gun was suddenly made redundant despite successful testing at the Aberdeen Proving grounds.

 

 

Yet the French were not ready to give up on the AMX 50. If it could not function as a medium tank, than it could certainly fulfill the new role of a mobile heavy tank. But that is a story for another day.

 

Now that we have brushed up a bit on the history of this tank, Let's go over it's stats:

Now that we have glanced over the general stats of this tank, Let us review its advantages and disadvantages on the battlefield in great detail:

 

Advantages:

 

The Gun: The AMX 50 100 in top configuration, sports a 100 mm autoloading cannon with 4 shells in the magazine. The calibre of the guns give each shot an average damage of 280. This allows you to kill any enemies below 300 hit points with one shot. The gun is also fairly accurate which makes sniping in the tank semi-viable if the occasion calls for it.

 

The 4-shot autoloader augments the tank’s firepower; giving it a devastating average burst potential of 1120 damage in 10 seconds! Assuming you penetrate each shell, this allows you to finish off all tier 7 tank destroyers and light tanks in one clip, and severely maul any tank above or below your tier. This high burst damage causes some tanks to immediately back away for fear of being clipped down to size. The autoloader makes this tank a lethal predator for any wounded enemies caught in the open.

 

High Speed: The AMX 50 100 is by far the fastest of the tier 8 heavy tanks. With a maximum speed of 45 km/hr, it is faster than some medium tanks of the same tier. This gives the French tank much more flexibility compared to other contemporary heavy tanks. With your high speed, you can race from flank to flank and provide assistance wherever you are needed. Repositioning also is much easier for you as you can take key positions faster than other heavy tanks. The high speed also at times allow you to get out of unfavorable encounters and chase down agile enemies whom would elude other heavy tanks. The mobility also makes the AMX 50 100 one of the few heavy tanks that can circle and flank around slower tanks.

 

Excellent track and turret traverse: The track traverse of the AMX 50 100 is excellent at around 42 degrees per second. It can also turn on a dime. This allows it to easily maneuver in combat. Combined with an excellent turret traverse of around 38 degrees, the track and turret traverse allows this heavy tank to flank and circle slow and sluggish tanks and keep its front to flanking mediums and light tanks.

 

Excellent at ramming: The AMX may not look like it, but it is actually quite good at ramming other tanks. With a weight of around 50 tons, and going at its top speed of 45 km per hour, it can cause serious damage to any tank it collides with. However only use this tactic against tanks that are lighter than you. Ramming any tanks heavier than yourself will result in you taking much more damage.

 

Large Hitpoint pool: The AMX 50 100 is tied with the German Tiger 2 for having the highest hitpoint pool of any tank at tier 8 at 1600. This means you can take a hit or two and will allow you to survive longer if you are forced to trade hitpoints.

 

Easy Stock Grind: The AMX has the easiest grind of any tier 8 heavy tank. The turret is already in top configuration as well as the engine and the second gun (if you fully upgraded the AMX M4 mle. 1945). The only modules you need to grind is the tracks as well as the top 100 mm SA47. The second 90 mm gun from the M4 1945 has decent penetration and clip damage for its tier. Overall it's a painless grind.

 

Disadvantages:

 

Paper Thin Armor: The AMX 50 100 has the worst armor profile out of all the Tier 8 heavy tanks. To think, the thickest piece of armor on the tank is just 90 mm thick. It will be an understatement to say that armor is not the AMX 50 100’s strongest aspect. The upper glacis despite being nicely sloped, possesses only 130 mm of relative armor thickness. The turret face is 90 mm and also sloped back, yet it lacks a gun mantlet.

The sides and rear of the tank is the truly horrific part of the armor. Your sides only have 35 MM OF FLAT NON-SPACED ARMOR. Your turret sides are merely 30 mm. The rear of the tank is therefore something you should never write home about. In fact burn that letter right now! The rear is only 30 mm thick which isn’t surprising considering the other armor figures. This means almost every tank below and above tier 8 will easily be able to penetrate your sides and rear with their HE ammunition. You must be especially wary of high calibre guns or howitzers as they can quickly remove three quarters of your health with one well aimed HE shell to your sides and rear.

To make a long story short, every shot fired at you will most likely penetrate your tank. The only bounces you will get is from extraordinary rolls from RNG or from poorly aimed shots at highly angled armor. Therefore do not rely on your armor to save you. Your HP is your only guarantee of survivability.

 

Fragile Glass Modules: With a weak armor profile, the AMX 50 100 also has a propensity for frequent and easy damage to its internal modules when hit by enemy shells. Aside from the usual track damage that all tanks suffer, the AMX 50 100 is a hazardous deathtrap on tracks.

 

Hits to the turret from any direction will almost always jam the turret rotation mechanism or on unlucky occasions damage the gun. Shots to the front and sides of the hull usually damages the ammo rack; another reason to avoid being hit by high calibre guns, lest you get blown up in one hit. And to complete the lists of module damage let’s add fire to the list! Shots to the rear of the tank will also damage your engine or ignite the fuel tanks, but thankfully fires are rare in this tank.

 

Simply this tank cannot afford to get hit.

 

Large profile and bad camo: For such a weakly armored tank, the AMX 50 100 is a pretty big azz heavy tank with a very tall profile despite the small size of the oscillating turret. This means that it has awful camo values and will be easily spotted by the enemy, and very easy to hit due to how huge you are. This makes stealthy gameplay much more difficult.


 

 

Terrible gun depression and elevation angles: While the oscillating turret allows for a much smaller turret size as well as the installation of a novel autoloader, it also severely restricts the gun elevation and depression angles of the gun. The gun depression is a dismal 5 degrees which is a downgrade from the 10 degrees you enjoyed on the AMX M4  mle.1945. You will struggle to shoot enemies over the crest of a ridge. The gun depression also makes the French autoloader vulnerable to side hugging or face hugging tactics. The tank will struggle in those kind of situations to depress the gun far enough in order to penetrate the side hugging or face hugging enemy. This makes close range brawling something you have to be wary of.

 

The gun elevation of the gun is equally subpar. Again, due to the oscillating turret or more specifically, the turret bustle, the gun cannot elevate the gun at a high angle. This means the AMX 50 100 will have trouble shooting up at enemies on high ground except at long distance.

 

Long delay between shells: Despite the impressive damage potential of the AMX 50 100’s 4-shell magazine, it takes a long time to unload its full potential damage. This is because it has a 3.33 second delay between each shot, meaning the tank takes a whooping 10 SECONDS in order to unload a full clip. This mean that in order to unload all 4 shells into the enemy, you would have to risk a lengthy exposure time which could make you wide open for return fire. It also means that enemies have ample time to pull back into cover at times before you can fire off your second shot.

 

Horrific reload time: Being an autoloader, the AMX 50 100 inherents the major flaw of the system; a lengthy reload time after magazine expenditure. Once you have unloaded all 4 shots, you will be stuck in a gruesome reload period of 25 seconds. This leaves you extremely vulnerable to an enemy counterattack as you will not be able to fight back until that magazine is loaded. This makes you unsuitable for holding a position.

 

Long aim-time: Despite the good accuracy and relatively fair dispersion on the gun of the AMX 50 100, it suffers from a bad aim-time inherent in all the French tanks. The bloom on the aim circle takes a agonizing 3 seconds to shrink, which means you will have to be patient with your shots.

 

Now that we know what's good and bad about this tank, Let's move on shall we to performance and how to effectively operate this tank in battle.

 

Summary: The AMX 50 100 is the first French heavy tank to receive an autoloader. It marks the transition of the previous French tanks from hull down snipers into destructive hit and run tanks. Your role is still support, but the AMX 50 100 accomplishes this role by brutally clipping enemy tanks down to size for your allies or finishing off injured tanks on its own. It is the quintessential opportunist which must use the situation to its advantage and play the role of the ambush assassin it’s well suited to.

 

I will admit, when I first started playing the AMX 50 100, I struggled in the tank very much and lost more games than I won. That was because I was thinking in a conventional mindset and using the tank in conventional means. However that was a mistake because the AMX 50 100 is anything but conventional.Once you become familiar with the AMX 50 100’s unconventional play style, you will gradually improve.

 

The main feature of this tank is the 100 mm 4-shot autoloader with an impressive clip potential of 1120 damage. In 10 seconds, the tank is capable of finishing off all tier 7 tank destroyers and light tanks, and severely maim every other tank in the game. This makes the AMX 50 100, extremely deadly if it can catch enemies out in the open and penetrate all 4 shells.

 

Flexibility is definitely another one of the AMX 50 100’s strengths, and the key to that flexibility is excellent mobility (for a heavy tank). This mobility allows the tank to relocate to where the team needs it the most. Therefore, the AMX 50 100 is capable of fulfilling multiple roles depending on the combat situation. It can either be a semi-decent sniper, taking shots of opportunity, or serve as an excellent second line support. The AMX 50 100 can also provide heavy firepower to supplement a medium wolfpack. the choice of action a 50 100 makes can have a huge effect on the outcome of the battle. Always try to go for the kill, finish off targets you started unloading on, and above all, know when to pull back.

 

Despite the excellent mobility, special care must be taken when driving this tank due to its extremely thin armor and large profile. The combination of those 2 factors makes you a priority target when spotted by the enemy team, and will result if your tank quickly transforming into a smoking hulk. Therefore

 

However the AMX 50 100 cannot sustain a constant presence in fights due the long insufferable reload you must endure after expending your entire drum. During the long 25 seconds you will be completely helpless. Therefore, all good AMX 50 100 drivers should always have an escape route planned out until the time comes to unload its powerful cannon. Surviving the reload is an essential skill that all drivers of the French autoloaders must learn and master to have a chance in battles. The longer you survive, the more opportunities you will get to unload your magazine and naturally you will find yourself dealing more and more damage.

 

Despite the AMX 50 100’s designation of being a heavy tank, you must abandon all pretenses of playing it like a traditional heavy tank. This tank cannot lead the charge because its cardboard armor will quickly become riddled with holes and it only has 4 shots before a horrific reload. Therefore a frontline duty in this tank is often brief. It cannot hold positions on its own also because of its long reload. Any enemies who has half a brain will count how many shots your tank has fired before moving up on you after you empty your magazine and you will be completely helpless to do anything.

 

The playstyle you must adopt in the AMX 50 100, must be a combination of a medium tank and a light tank. Stay observant of both teams and take advantage of opportunities as they come up. Understand that an AMX 50 100 cannot limit itself to a single role constantly. Everything, except armor, about the 50 100 is excellent for its tier. The AMX 50 100 is a very fun tank to learn and play and is a popular keeper among many Tier 8 aficionados.

 

Now without further ado, there are some tricks and tips you can use.

 

Hanging back: The AMX 50 100 is not a heavy tank, GET OUT OF THE HEAVY TANK MINDSET! You are essentially, a medium tank with decent mobility, no armor and a powerful cannon. However, do not rush to the frontlines as your enemies will be more than happy to contest the 50 100’s paper armor. Your role is to support your allies from the second line. It's best you accompany your team and let some of your other tanks detect and report enemy tank positions for you. You can than unload your magazine into suitable targets while they are preoccupied with other matters, ripping them apart.

 

Peek a BOOM (autoloader-style) : If you do find yourself fighting around a corner against an enemy and you have no choice but to hold that corner, don’t just drive and sit out in the open to unload your drum. Instead, lock your autoaim onto the target and wait for the aim circle to shrink. Quickly drive out angled and wait until the aiming reticule is locked onto the target, take the shot then quickly back up and reload before repeating the cycle until all shells are expended. The rapid back and forth movement is meant to disorientate enemies aiming at you and bait out a bad shot. If they miss, than poke out and take your time to unload your magazine.

 

Trade several shots for one hit: You will not be able to always avoid getting hit. However, you can make your enemies regret trading fire with you by giving them several shells from your autoloader back in reply. This may provide enough stopping power to force them to back down. But insure you are trading several shots for only 1-2 shots. If you get pelted by 2-4 shots, than it will certainly not go in your favor.

 

Full Reload whenever possible: Whenever, possible you want to have a full clip ready. The times when you should fully reload are when:

 
  1. There is nothing going on for sometime

  2. While changing positions

  3. When your current number of shells are insufficient for finishing off your target

  4. When your allies are taking fire and covering for you.

 

Surviving the Reload: Surviving the long magazine reload multiple times is key to success in French autoloaders. Therefore, you must always insure you find a safe place with hard cover to reload. Or at the very least, stay with your teammates who can cover you while you reload. Than once your hear the click of the new magazine, go out and wreak havoc.

 

Relocate: If you are stuck in a bad position, where you cannot effectively deploy your firepower without taking heavy damage, dealing with enemies who are hull-down or you’re reloading and need to find a safe place, use your excellent mobility to find a more advantageous position. Under no circumstances should you attempt to hold a position. That not your job, leave that to heavy tanks.

 

Bluff while Reloading: You don’t want your enemies to be aware that your magazine is dry and your busy waiting for the next drum to be loaded into the breech. One way you can fool your enemies and buy a bit more time for your reload, is to point the gun at them and aim as if you are ready to fire. This way you can psych enemies into not daring to come around the corner to shoot you. You can also psych enemies who are counting your shots by shooting 1-2 shots before fully reloading while you bluff. This why they think you only have a few shots left and they will come at you, only to be met with a fusilade of autoloading firepower from your cannon.

 

Map Awareness: Pay attention to the minimap every once in awhile. See what your team is doing and note the positions of your enemies. Than plan your moves accordingly. Being map aware allows you to rush to the aid of where you are needed the most, rather than staying in one place not really contributing.

 

Plan your targets: Consider which targets to unload onto with your autoloader. This may sound simple, but it is challenging. Remember your gun is capable of dealing devastating potential clip damage with 4 100 mm shells. So pick your targets wisely. Try to go after tanks which you can destroy with one magazine or several enemy tanks which you can take out with one magazine. Don't go chasing after weak low health targets unless they pose a grave threat to your team and no one else can deal with them, it's a waste of a full magazine and costs you a painful reload time. Let your team finish off those tanks if possible.

 

You should conserve your shots for enemies with 1100 or LESS health. Also when firing, consider when type of ammunition to use. If it's an IS-3 Defender, IS-6 or other heavily armored tanks your are facing head on, it will be very difficult to punch through with your AP rounds. Use your APCR shells against them. However, if it's a medium tank or any other tank with weak armour and weak spots you can easily hit, use AP and watch them be clipped down to size.

 

Early Game: You are the opportunist, the pacifist. Your early game goals is not to rush up and unload a full magazine. Instead, you are the sniper, the support who takes shots of opportunity and lets your team spot and take the hits while you preserve your hit points whenever possible. The more hitpoints you save up, the higher your potential to carry late game. Rush to where you are most needed and assist as best you can. Avoid being forced to hold positions, mobility is your guarantee of survival.

 

Late Game: By this time hopefully, the locations of most enemy tanks are known and most of them have taken substantial amounts of damage and some are even alone. Hopefully you have been holding back and preserving your precious hit points. Late game is when the AMX 50 100 becomes a deadly hit and run assassin tank. You can roam around the map, hunting for weakened tanks caught in the open. Pounce on these tanks and finish them off with your full clip than retreat for the reload. You very quickly reduce otherwise combat-effective vehicles into smoking hulks. Continue this process until all enemy tanks are destroyed.

Gun Laying Drive: This will assisting in reducing your awful aim time and reduce the amount of exposure time you have to endure. The gun laying drive also insure less time waiting on that large bloom and more time shooting and falling back.

 

Vertical Stabilizer: Since you cannot equip a gun rammer, due to the gun being an autoloader, you can however equip, a vertical stabilizer which will improve on the move accuracy, and decrease dispersion while turning the turret. This makes your gun much more accurate and more accuracy translates into more damage.

 

Improved Ventilation: Very useful for cutting down the reload time of your magazine and improving your crew skills. A must have.

 

AWACS Provisions:

 

Hot Coffee: Gives 10% boost to crew mastery which helps cut-down on your magazine reload time and improves your vehicle's other characteristics

 

Canned Pate: Gives 3% boost to crew mastery, same reason to use as with the hot coffee.

 

Improved Fuel: Gives a 10% boost to engine power and turret traverse. I personally prefer this provision as I feel that in this tank, speed and mobility is a priority worth augmenting.

 

Protective Kit: If you are concerned about taking constant module damage, this provision will be a good idea to acquire. It increases by 15% the protection of the crew from injuries, +10%´module repair speed, +20% damage protection in case of damaged engine and +10% ammo rack and fuel tank durability. Will be great if you constantly are getting hit.

 

I would recommend that people watch this guide from Wargaming on how to play auto loaders before playing with autoloaders. This guide's tips are very useful and can be applied to Blitz.

 

 

I hope you guys found this guide helpful, and hopefully allowed those of you who struggled with this tank to now find it somewhat bearable at the very least. If you feel that there were any parts to this guide which were inadequately explained, or there were some areas I left out. Please let me know and I will try my best to rectify.

Good God, if this is how much you type for a forum post, you should get a PhD.  Writing a 70,000 word thesis should be no issue.

I was going by the UK terminology.  "At universities in the United Kingdom, the term thesis is usually associated with PhD/EngD (doctoral) and research master's degrees, while dissertation is the more common term for a substantial project submitted as part of a taught master's degree or an undergraduate degree (e.g. BA, BSc, BMus, BEd, BEng etc.)."

Fantastic read! Im halfway through the tier 7 grind!

 

1) im shocked by that gun depression! Really?! 5 degrees... ouch!

 

2) maybe add something about learning where tank modules are, especially ammo racks. Autoloaders are good at ammo racking tanks.

 

3) how'd you get this to pop on my notifications?

I personally have never been a sniper person and I kinda feel that binos and optics are not that important as the tank has bad camo. Plus the long aim time doesn't make sniping too viable. The most important thing is the reduce the dispersion as well as the magazine reload

Thanks for the review and history lesson.

 

Very cool and the images are great along with your write up.

 

I try to play it as a sniper with vents, V stab, and Binocs.

Having good success...If I can stay undetected then any tank targeted is in serious trouble...being undetected allows full DPM use.

 

But some maps you gotta mix it up as you describe...and that is fairly tricky with that long reload and no armor(much different than the defender)...still learning the midrange game with this tank...Man the Camo is crappy.

Yeah the camo values of the French tanks are all pretty bad. They relay on mobility and their firepower really. Hence why they are very difficult to play well.
