Probably an LCD problem. Has your iPad been recently bent? My iPad has been bent from playing Blitz and has some discolouration within the screen from bent pressure on the screen.

That's the only thing I can think of ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Assuming no water damage, it looks like the LCD screen was dislodged from its connection ports. I had that problem about a month ago, and I ended up replacing the screen. (A good repair tech might be able to "plug it back in", but in 99% of cases, at least one of the pins has snapped off, and at that point it's just easier to replace the whole screen, plus you will inevitably start to have touch issues. (capacitive sensing gets all outta whack) I know that's not the answer you wanted to hear, but...yeah. Best of luck. Screen+labor will run you about 100-120 bucks. Make sure you take it to someone who knows what they are doing, because an incorrectly replaced screen will have multiple dead zones on the screen. (won't respond to touch input) PM me if you have any other questions.

I was going to get a switch, and some more 3DS games but I guess I'll just replace my iPad mini 2 for a Mini 4 then :V

It may not be the same thing, but I have an samsung android tablet that does the same thing. In my case it was easier to see the problem because it is intermittent, if I tap it, or bend the device slightly it will stop or start the screen from "blanching out". It is a loose connection on one of the flat tape cables for the screen (pretty sure). I play mostly now on another device because the device was old enough for me to justify getting a new different device.

I personally would get a quote on having someone fix it, Good Luck man!
