I'm a huge fan of military aviation and I've found that many players of this game tend to be as well. So with that in mind I decided to blatantly copy a thread that I have frequented on the console forum.

What is the best looking fighter plane?

For the record there is only one correct answer. The best looking and most badass fighter plane of all time is the mighty F-14 Tomcat but I will accept other answers as well.

My grandfather helped write the technical manuals for the Corsair (odd family history)

In sheer terms of looks... well, Italians.  Re.2005.  It's more like a sportscar than a war machine

The best looking fighter plane is the F-80.  (P-80 if you live in 1945 for some weird reason)

Just look it up.

Interesting.

My two were the F14 (growing up watching Robotech & Top Gun will do that to you) and the F4 As I loved watching re-runs of Ba Ba Black Sheep (Pappy Boyingtons squadren).

Howard Huges' XF-11 was another favourite of mine along with the Kyushu J7W oh and the Focke-Wulf Ta 152 H-0/R11 (an amazing aircraft)

As for my family

One grandfather flew Sunderlands during the war and is credited with the first aerial Uboat kill and the other was an aircraft designer also during the war and worked on the Spitfire.  I have a Piston from a Merlin Engine that was turned into an ash tray from him (i use if for loose change) on my dresser in my room.

As for me I tried out for the airforce cadets as a way in but was gutted when I found out I was too tall at 13 to fit into a fighter cockpit (wouldnt take u over 5'10)

Here's the thing with the Tomcat. When it was retired in 2006 it went out at the top of it's game. In many ways it was superior to the fighter that replaced it. Politics, Richard Cheney, mismanagement by the Navy, and the Tomcat Community itself essentially killed the Tomcat in the 1990's. It just took 16 years for those mistakes to catch up with her.

A modernized F-14 (which was planned) would only be second to the F-22 even now.

The Tomcat community would put out a video once a year called Fighter Fling. Fighter Fling 2004 was the last of these videos. This video really shows some amazing moments in Naval Aviation as well as how the Tomcat community felt about the upcoming transition to the Super Hornet.

Again, not the world's best fighter, but none can deny the allure of the sharkmouth... P-40 Warhawk
